Macie and Grace came through their dental 'experience' okay. Unfortunately, on the way home Macie Ann turned her back and gave us the cold shoulder all evening. (Yes, I may have groveled.)
The only cause for concern is (both) their liver numbers are a bit elevated; not unusual in older dogs. He's prescribed daily supplements and will check their labs in a couple months.
Gotta love the way Tom loves our girls. When I said something mournful about the bill ($1,002), he retorted, "They're our children and we're going to do whatever it takes." (Smart man!)

I love Mrs. Meyer's seasonal hand soaps, so when I saw 'Gingerbread' it went right in my Amazon cart. What I wasn't prepared for, somewhere during shipping the screw-top loosened. When I cut open the package the aroma began to permeate everywhere, not unlike a 70's hookah lounge. (Not that I'd know!)
Thankfully, the folks at Amazon are sending a complimentary replacement.
Pondering
Thanksgiving dinner. Troy and Lois will be here ... maybe Chloe and Robert, so no, I'm not stressing. The only thing we've cemented is "no turkey", "no ham." I'm thinking brisket, twice-baked potatoes and something(S) keto-friendly for Lois and myself.

First of all I am thankful the girls are okay. That was a lot of money, but you have a wonderful husband there to let you spend the money.

Okay why no turkey?
Like my parents, I don't dislike it ... it's just not a favorite. We always went 'out', providing my dad could order off the menu whatever he happened to be thankful for!
DeleteWhen our cats got older they struggled with elevated enzyme issues. We took some conservative steps, but stopped short of the extraordinary measures recommended by the vet. I think there's a fine line between treating our fur babies like family and remembering they are animals.

DeleteYour husband sounds like mine, and we are the same way with our babies—they provide us with so much joy and are truly our "girls." I'm glad they came through it all.
ReplyDeleteMy sons have become more traditional than I am—they want turkey, and I do not like turkey like I used to in my younger days. Now I'm content with the mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing!
Yummm! My favorite turkey these days is Boars Head cajun -- with lots of mayo.

Lots of people don't do turkey anymore for Thanksgiving but I'm doing turkey and all the traditional sides. I haven't hosted the last two years so I'm looking forward to it this year. Deletedogs are not animals here, he is our child, and I agree with you and Tom. we both feel the same way too. even with large bills like yours and mine was 354 for his annual shots and lab work, they are much much cheaper than a child would be. we spend an average year, about 100 or more a month, I got that figure from adding all we spent, dog food vet bills and dividing by 12.
ReplyDeleteI have never cooked a turkey, but until 2007 have always had turkey on TG. Bob cooked it the first year we were married because I would not. I like white meat only and can only eat it for a couple of days and I am done. my sons stopped coming and since 07 we eat out. I have never tasted brisket and not sure how to cook one or what it would taste like. I love pork, pull pork, or pork roast. my mother TG had so much on the table I can't list it here
so sorry the girls had to go through the procedure. too funny that non animals we love can get peeved with us..
Oh, do treat yourself to some smoked brisket sometime! It's our favorite at our go-to BBQ joint.
DeleteWe've been having Cornish Game Hens for Thanksgiving. Since going keto I've developed an aversion to turkey (I know, why?! Right?!). Turkey tastes "off" now for some reason. Also, Steve's sister, who also eats this way, has shared a super easy chocolate dessert that is out of this world delicious! We had it last night. It's pistachio nuts, butter, coconut oil, and dark chocolate. It's SO GOOD! Also learned of a somewhat keto pasta: Brami. It's not truly carb free but now we can have spaghetti again! Yippee! I have to order it from Amazon. I'm a happy camper. Blessings.

DeleteYour Thanksgiving meal sounds wonderful. I somehow get caught up in trying to make everyone's favorite dish. This is difficult as I have 16 adults coming and three kids. I love how you all love your babies. Glad that everything went well for them. A good thing about Amazon is that they are quick to take care of issues. Glad they are sending you another package. DeleteOur pets are just like family and we do have a responsibility to take good care of them. One of the reasons, other than my old age, that I no longer have a dog or cat for that matter, is that it is so expensive. I just no longer have the money to do that. Thanksgiving always means Turkey time to me. We usually have one for dinner on Thanksgiving Day. I guess you all don't likes it much if you're going to have brisket. Every one to their own choice. DeleteI guess I am considered Traditional. We love turkey and think the leftovers are even better than the day of. Sandwiches and soup are the best of course the trimmings are pretty yummy too. Brisket sounds delish too. Don't know what we are doing for TG this year. It won't be a big to-do anyway. Just some family and lazy day snoozes after the Tryptophan kicks in.

Leftovers, yesss! Regardless of the menu or venue, Tom always makes a point to buy dressing mix and enjoys it right out of the skillet for days after.
