In this weeks' song, a woman is accused of only hearing what she wants to. "Selective listening" is when you choose to focus on what's important to you and ignore what isn't. Are you often, sometimes or never guilty of selective listening.

I believe much depends on the speaker(s) -- tho' I could have made a better effort while in school.
Many of my report cards -- yep, my parents saved every one -- mention my day-dreaming.

Aside from the great oldies played at the supermarket, I don't listen to the radio. Unless it was a PBS doo-wop special, I'd have to say a hymn at church.
This weeks' featured artist, Lisa Loeb, has always been a big reader. Her band was called Nine Stories as a tribute to her favorite author, JD Salinger. If you were to name a band to honor your favorite author, what would you call it, and why?

This weeks' song is her first and biggest hit. "Stay" was on the soundtrack of Reality Bites, a novie starring her friend and one-time neighbor Ethan Hawke. Ethan gave this song to the film's director, Ben Stiller, who agreed it was perfect for the film's closing credits. When you watch a movie, do you stick around for the closing credits?
Yes.
We don't usually go to a movie theater but made an exception for last year's Sound of Freedom and Oppenheimer. I went twice, and stayed 'til the theater was practically emptied.
In the 1990's, Lisa was popular for her style and appeared on many magazine covers, causing People magazine to comment, "Though she rose to fame as a singer, she's probably just as well known for her glasses." Do you wear glasses? If yes, do you consider your eyewear purely functional, there to improve your sight, or are your glasses an extension of your personal style.
Some of you know, I regret ever having cataract surgery. Practically the only time I don't need glasses is when I'm driving.
Thankfully, cute eyewear's available online at reasonable prices and I've several pairs.
Today Lisa does a show on Sirius Radio, and she enjoys broadcasting while her favorite collaborator, her cat, sits on her shoulder. Is there a pet in the room with you as your answer these questions?

Deletethis will be easy, Yes, I have been accused of selective hearing, and I freely admit to doing it beause a lot of stuff HE says i don't want to hear. it is all about the speaker.

Never heard of the singer, the song or the man drying a bronco.
I wear glasses only to SEE because I am nearly blind without them, and really hate wearing them but now that i have for 30 plus years look horrid without them. I like my glasses rimless because they hide with out being seen.

Delete"Sound of Freedom" touched me deeply. We bought it on DVD. Now I pray for all the children, born & unborn, every day during my prayer circle around the property. It's heinous what's happening to the young.
ReplyDeleteI prefer all the old music: Gospel Hymns, Country, Rock, and Classical. 99% of modern music leaves me cold. Ugh.
Never went to Summer Camp. My father never cared where I was or what I was doing as long as he didn't have to be involved. Summers I tended to wander aimlessly from friend to friend or staying in the woods where I was safe.

DeleteThanks for reminding me that Sound of Freedom was a movie we wanted to see last year and never did. I'll look to see if we can watch it somewhere online. One in the theaters soon is Unsung Hero; I'm really going to make an effort to go to that, but it will probably have to wait until we can get it on streaming, too.

DeleteLove the picture of Macie, and yes, I think you are on the right, next to the end. I had to think about it and realized what age you would be, so that helped. I never went away to camp until I was a teen, except for camping out in Girl Scouts in a tent. But that was different. I enjoyed your answers. It would have to be church music, hymns for me too. I never heard of that group you mentioned. I am way behind the times. Selective hearing? Don't tell my hubby about it. He thinks I do it deliberately, but honestly, I can't hear half what he says. I know that should be on my list of things to get fixed. Glasses are another story. I have an eye appt. next week. Something needs to be done. Take care and God bless you my friend.

DeleteNever went to camp, and probably selectively listen. If I'm absorbed in something I tend to tune out distractions. I need glasses for everything and don't have bifocals because I need prisms so have to keep switching from my computer glasses to my reading glasses. No complaints, I'd be helpless without them!

I've worn glasses for at least 45 years. Now I wear rimless and they work well for me.
Cartwheels..yes in my day I did them really well. My Mom said I spent more time upside down than right side up..
I have to admit I have selective hearing too. It depends on the speaker but now my "real" hearing is suffering and I miss a lot of "talk".
Yes I went to church camp from Jr. High through high school. Made some great friends and it was fun to do something different in the summer.

DeleteHere it is Sunday morning, Saturday was a busy one for me and I spent most of the day at y son's tome here in Texas.
ReplyDeleteI never went away to camp in the summer. Our summers were full of visits with my grandparents though it reminds some of camping as they had only the basic necessities, no running water, no TV or internet connections.
