Friday letters

Today I'm thinking advertising.
...... specifically, my hiring manager who, back in 1988 predicted, "You'll never watch a commercial again in quite the same way."

Thank you, dear ....

Publix

Whoever's responsible for creating your commercial spots deserves an award.  And a raise!  It's not often I go on-line to re-play one of your commercials.  For instance?

As the young folks say, this one gave me "All the feels"!

Boar's Head

Your suggestion, "Compromise elsewhere" is perfect.
Short and sweet, you make me re-examine my own priorities.

Wal Mart

Thank you for featuring pre-teen/adolescent models with a bit of baby fat.   Maybe it's just me, but I think it's refreshing to see real girls -- not Olsen twin look alikes in serious need of a cheeseburger!

Jimmy Dean

I love your pre-cooked sausage patties!  But what's up with this?  The box advertised 4, but when I peeled open the vacuum pack there were only 3.

Where's the missing piggie?

Finally ...

Thank you, Blogger family ... for playing along with Wednesday Watercooler.   It's fun to learn a little more about your likes -- and which ones of you not to invite on a Winter ski trip.  (LOL)

As promised, here are my responses:

1.  Either Florida or Georgia ... close enough to drive back here to family for a weekend.

2.  In no particular order -- Maine, Texas, New Mexico, Florida

3.  Hawaii -- I can't wrap my head around having to jump on a plane or ship to visit dear ones on the mainland.

Okay then ... that's it from the top of my noggin.  I hope y'all enjoy a fantastic Friday!

Hugs, Myra

  1. A good memorable advert does credit to the company; regardless of whether you buy the product/service or not.

Over here, there's a trend in TV adverts to look down at you. You see it in the demeanour and the eyes of the models they use, (male and female). They seem to say, "Unless you buy this product you are inferior in some way. You can't afford it or are not worth knowing anyway!"

Often, the slogan says it all. "This is special" or "Not ordinary"; or whatever similar catch phrase to imply that other products are inferior; just like you if you don't buy our brand.

God bless, Mevely. I have found your missing pre-cooked pattie in our fridge!

    1. Oh my gosh! That makes one wonder what demographic those advertisers are targeting.
I'm happy to hear you will enjoy my missing pattie and not some stranger. (*grin*)

  2. I have to say, this is odd. 2 minutes ago, I said to Bob, why do they have to make commercials so aggravating. the only ones I hear are running all day with what he watches. I had forgotten that I have never seen a Publix ad that I did not love. they are The best at making commercials. this one is lovely and I have not seen one in a long time. since DVR came along we bypassed commercials and since 2020 came along, we have stopped using the DVR except for what bob watches. Publix doesn't advertise on sports channels or auto channels.
I love your letters, keep them coming. I have seen a few cell phone commercials I like and a lot that I don't like.

    1. I didn't realize Publix commercials aren't on sports or racing. Wonder what that's all about? Women watch NASCAR, too!

    2. Just because I didn't have anything more exciting to do, I fired off a comment to Jimmy Dean. Not surprisingly, they haven't responded.

  3. I like your normal commercials. Although come on Dean with the sausage!! I love Publix. We are getting the weirdest commercials ever. They are in a different language. A lot are about AI which Sandra understands but I sure don't. AI to me means loss of jobs!
MOVE TO GA NEXT TO ME! LOL

    1. Whaaaat's up with those foreign language commercials? My former boss used to get so cross with the Housekeeping ladies chatting to one another in Spanish: "This is the United States ... speak English!"

  4. Some of those commercials are really inspiring. I usually read and don't watch commercials at all.

  6. Strangely enough, I don't have an opportunity to see commercials. I got rid of my TV years ago, and I have an ad blocker on YouTube. I try to distance myself from annoying humanity.....

As for your previous post, it is nearly impossible for me to chose a "perfect" place to live. I always vowed that I'd never leave California - - but now I'd never ever go back.
I am intrigued by the Southwest, but I prefer to live where there is a change of seasons.
You'll never find me in Hawaii - - I have no desire to be on tropical islands. And Florida is out.....(oops - sorry!) *smile*

    1. I'm so glad to be out of monotone Phoenix. Six years later, I'm still wow'd by the change of seasons.

  7. Well, Myra, I don't know why I haven't seen this Publix commercial as we have plenty of those in Georgia, but I will say, this one brought tears to my eyes. Wow! Boar's Head brand is a winner, too, but according to Danny's research, we are pretty sure that Tyson (who reportedly laid off workers to hire illegals) bought out Jimmy Dean's company. Does that account for being a patty short of a full pig? My advice? Just avoid that brand altogether!
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

    1. Thank you (and Danny, too) for letting me know about Tyson! Yep, I'll be avoiding them -- and any other place I hear short-changing American workers.

  8. Ok, now I'm a sloppy mess with that Publix commercial. I had a feeling that it was coming but still...sigh....
I really try to fast forward through any commercials...the repetition drives me nuts. Love your posts Myra.

    2. Thanks, Sue! So glad to know I'm not the only one who weeps over certain commercials.

  9. I love your posts, too, Myra. Thanks for stopping by and offering sympathy on Baby's passing. I'm not familiar with Publix but I hear it's a great store. I rarely watch TV, but I'm enjoying it this week in Tucson with the little ones while their parents are on a cruise. So many movies to catch up on!

  10. Re Commercials: So that's what we're missing not having cable anymore!? I cut the cord years ago when commercials & shows started featuring those living ungodly lives as some kinda paragons of virtue or those to be admired. Glad to hear there are still good commercials out there.
Been to Hawai'i. Not impressed. A) I don't like islands (too confining); B) Hawai'i politics are ultra-liberal and have high taxes; and C) Most of their residents are 'high' as they are homeless and living on the beaches. Not my cuppa. I'm sure there are other reasons why I wouldn't live there or visit again if I really tried. 🤣
Your posts are always fun and thought provoking. I haven't posted in 2 weeks. I think I've fallen into some kinda emotional pit. Having ... a ... hard time ... being ... motivated ... 😁
    Blessings. 🤗

    1. I only visited Hawaii when I was young and ignorant of such things. Still, I thought it was underwhelming.
Thank you for letting me know you're not giving up blogging altogether. I hope you'll be feeling more like a crispy critter (*grin*) soon!

  11. The Publix commercials always bring on the tears and that one is no exception! I love the Jimmy Dean pre-cooked sausage patties AND the links. I buy them in a bag and now think I should dump them all out to count them next time I open a new bag. I think it says 24 links and by golly there better be 24!! Love you, dear friend!! T.

  12. We haven't watched TV in years, ever since the management took the antenna off our roof. We don't miss it and the commercials, but I did find a Publix commercial on YouTube thanks to you. I understand why you like them!

  15. That is a very sweet commercial. Yes, that's a great suggestion from Boar's Head. That's true, it's nice to see all sizes in a commercial. That's a shame about the sausages. Hope you have a nice week.
