Speaking of presents (Presence) ...
look what appeared in my FB feed this week!
Oops! I failed to realize yesterday was Epiphany... and still our tree stands twinkling merrily. Temporarily.
Here we are in what they call "the darkest month" and I've nothing in mind to lighten the room. Suggestions? (Please no Valentine's. That may be my least favorite day of the year.)
So, everybody on board?

Probably the biggest joy, was Robert proposing to my Chloe on New Years Eve.
He'd even asked my son for permission several weeks ago ... how sweet is that?!
I want to have this made into a canvas.
In the kitchen ...
I've been eating my fool head off, so far with no ill effects on the bathroom scale. Knock wood!
In a nod to my cravings, Tom took me to our new favorite Mexican food eatery. (I love Alabama, but heretofore we've not found anything resembling that we enjoyed in Arizona or New Mexico. Mexico Tipico comes close. Darn close!)
Yesterday I made a mess of Conecuh sausage, rainbow bell peppers, onion and Ro*Tel.

There's precious few leftovers, but I'm still scratching my head at the prices of peppers! $7+ for 3?

New to me ...
In an impromptu moment, a few days ago I set out to reorganize blitz the food pantry.
then turned to the freezer ...
and segued to the bane of my existence (aka, lower cabinets' storage).
I can't recall who recently posted this suggestion, but I had to beat feet to the Dollar ($1.25) Tree for a dish drainer. No more tumbling lids and banging to wake the dead!

Our Bible study ladies are getting back together tomorrow for BYOB(reakfast) and a new study.
Later, we're to see Tom's pain management doc for a steroidal injection. Praying for relief!
I've a new book (okay, several) downloaded I'm itching to get into.
... after de-Christmasing the house, that is. Time's a-wasting!

Yes, it is the time to de decorate the house! Sorry, but I go all out on Valentines decorations! I ate so much during the holidays that now I'm trying to get back on track to my diet of no sugar and no salt. It's not easy, but I tried to give away what I shouldn't be eating. I even gave the cookies I had left for DS#5 to take home with him. He said they had plenty, but would help get them out of my sight and hands. Hopefully I can replace all the Christmas treats with something healthy. I do have fruit here for my sweet treats. Your sausage sandwich does look very good! I love sausage done with onions and peppers too. But I stay away from the hot stuff. Being present, getting presents and giving thanks is what I'm all about this year. May you enjoy your 2024! ReplyDeleteJanuary is a bland month. I used to leave my indoor Christmas lights up until February - because they look so festive.
I had Italian sausage with peppers and onions yesterday. I love it - - but of course the price of groceries is outrageous.
We had snow flurries last night!
Our family room has no exterior windows, so it always seems darker this time of year. I've got the electric fireplace going practically 24/7! Even w/o heat, it's a comforting sight.

ReplyDeleteAbout drying dishes and the lids; have you tried putting them in the tumble dryer? Or the spin cycle in the washing machine? My wife does not like it because it is a bit noisy.
I like the quote of Henri Nouwen. He was a Dutch Catholic priest and writer. Can you imagine? God giving us a brand new day every morning. What a gift.

DeleteCongratulations to Robert and Chloe and to you too. the photo will make a beautiful canvas and could add some light to your room. I don't know what epiphany is, so took a trip to google search, and I think it doesn't matter if the tree is up because all the dates are man made, a day is a day and the date has nothing to do with it. Take the ornaments off the tree and leave the lights. I did that with both of mine, just lights and trees and they are on right now. or buy a tiffany lamp? i love there lights.

great idea for lids, mother would love that. I only have 5 pots, they all sit in a bottom cabinet with the lid on it. only use 2 of them most of the time. I would love a kitchen without pots and pans and in fact would love a house without a kitchen.. ha ha
I don't recall Epiphany being a thing -- until I lived in Tarpon Springs. Every year the Grecian archbishop presides over what's the "largest commemoration in the Western Hemisphere of Christ's baptism in the Jordan river."

For lightening a room, I keep a string of white "Christmas" lights up all year. It brightens a corner of our living room, plus since they're LED's there's not much electric current being used. One can also buy those rope style LED lights. I can't stand sitting around in the dark. I have to brighten things up! lol

DeleteWhat wonderful news for Chloe and Robert!!! I know you'll keep us posted on the wedding plans, Myra. Sorry to hear that Tom's having some issues and I sure hope all will be well soon. We had every intention of taking our decorations down yesterday, but one thing happened after another, and we will finally be tackling it this afternoon. I wish I had a good suggestion for lighting; I know I'll miss the twinkling lights of Christmas most of all.

Every January it seems I go through this let-down. Because I love the room, however, I'm hoping only to make subtle changes -- perhaps new brightly-colored throw pillows. Time to check out more estate sales!
DeleteSuch a happy post! congratulations to Robert and Chloe! How exciting!! And I love your idea of the dish drainer for lids, etc. Great idea! I may have to try that one. Your sausage and peppers looks so good, but yes, the price of peppers and sausage and bread and everything good has gone sky high! I noticed right away when we went to our little local grocery store after Jan. 1st, everything seemed to have much higher prices! It's getting scary out there...they seem to want to starve us out! I haven't taken down the tree or decorations yet. Thought I would by now, but I didn't, and so it will now be this week sometime. No big rush. I am still enjoying the lights, but the clutter is starting to get to me. So hopefully I will get around to it sooner rather than later. We start our Bible studies back up tomorrow too, so back to a routine is good. Have a wonderful week ahead. Prayers for good reports, etc. Blessings and Happy 2024!

We Went down to visit son Mark, we can only see him on Sundays for a short time. We (and he) are doing okay. Jack Jr. drove for us today we are a little tired anyway. But it is always good to drop in on you and the food and proposal made us smile (and drool).

Peppers at Publix are expensive but I got a nice package full at Sam's Club for less than the little package at Publix. I need to chop them up and get them in the freezer! DeleteCongrats to Chloe and Robert!! That picture will look great on canvas. We've had a dark, dreary day, lots of thunder and rain, the 2 strings of Christmas lights that I leave up saved the day. Made the house feel warm and cozy. I have one string running under the kitchen cabinets and one is below the bar, being under the bar they give a soft glow, keeps the darkness away.
