Hey there!

It's a super cold, sunny morning in the River Region!  It's not likely to happen again -- but yesterday while the thermometer read 26*, I went barefoot outside, still in my pj's.   You know what that means, right?  In short order I brewed a big cup of coffee then jumped in my recliner under a warm quilt.   Senior simple pleasures.

I've no rhyme or reason this morning, so please ...  just humor my prattling?

It's not Thankful Thursday, but I want to give a shout-out to the folks at Alabama Power.  I'd forgotten, a while back we got a notice, they'd be around to trim trees away from power lines.   At first, I couldn't identify who was making all the racket outside then saw this fellow having a go with his whirly blade.

Protected in a cage of sorts, he was working that thing like kids used to do with a joy stick.  (Yes, I was a bit envious, lol).

Back yesterday, the fellow who rang our bell couldn't have been more polite -- asking if there was a water or gas meter and hastening to reassure us someone would be around to clean it all up.
Tom observed, we've now got an ugly one-sided tree out front, but I'd rather keep the power on than worry about aesthetics!

Among those who made my heart smile this week?

..... The money lady at the nearby toll road.  "How you doin' today, doll?"  Big smile.  Then, witnessing me fumbling for the correct change, "You're just fine, baby."

..... Our server at Cracker Barrel who encouraged Tom to order the fried chicken (good call!) .... then as we were leaving, "God bless you."

..... The street department who, each holiday season, place decorated hay bales around town.

My favorite

Fine folks!

🍂

On the other hand ....

I was just going to let this go ... but wanted to give a head's up to anyone considering ordering a gift basket for the holidays.

We wanted to do something special for my granddaughter's birthday.  If I'd bothered to read the reviews, however, I might have saved myself a boatload of grief.
What arrived was not only not what I ordered ... but inferior quality which retails for $20 less.

Would y'all agree, there's little more annoying than trying to communicate with someone in (what I strongly sense is) a chatroom in India.
I followed up via texts, but not only did they not 'get it', they basically said I was out of luck, have a nice day.

Until I called VISA to challenge the charge on my credit card.  All of a sudden, last night I got 3 text apologies and promise of a full refund.  (We'll see.....)

Hey, I understand things happen!  Particularly around the holiday season.  Reading others' reviews, however, was a real eye-opener.  It makes me a bit sad, because Harry & David used to be the gold standard.

What else?

Hey, Proctor and Gamble!  What's a little benzene among friends?

It's no secret, the hair on my head is as fine and flyaway as an over-ripe dandelion.  Thankfully, about 10 years ago I discovered an affordable hair spray that worked without leaving mine a sticky, 'helmet' head.

Then, it disappeared from store shelves.  (Except for one lady selling a can online for $34.)
Researching, I discovered P&G recalled the Aussie flex spray because trace amounts of benzene were discovered.  Reflecting, I used to go through a can about once each week!  Nope, not worried; I just wish Big Brother would stop sweating the small stuff.

Oops!  I almost forgot!

As promised, here's a (link to) the corn casserole.  You know, ever since hs Home Economics, I don't do anything remotely labor-intensive.

https://temeculablogs.com/instant-pot-corn-casserole-recipe/

This corn casserole, however, is easy-peasy and delicious!

Don't forget!

Sorry this is so long-winded; thank y'all for visiting!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I loved the hay bales (yes, this GA girl gets it) and that meme of the little girl at the end of this post, Myra. LOL!

  2. A lovely post this time. Thanx Mevely. I too liked the hay bales.

It's so nice these days to have good friendly service in shops and restaurants. Rather rare, but still nice.

Here in the UK if you buy something on a Credit Card and you have a dispute with the seller, the Credit Card company will refund you and take up the matter with the seller. Does not work on Debit Cards - only Credit Cards.

    God bless always, Mevely.

  6. I sure wish somebody would venture out here in the wilderness and trim the trees from the power lines. And while they're at it, they could bulldoze the monster brush on my two lousy acres.....

Looks like the cold weather has set in everywhere. It was 18 degrees last night and a toasty "high" of 33 today.

I hope you get a refund for the gift basket, but I have some doubts if you're dealing with India....
It's important to read the reviews and small print before ordering anything. I enjoy reading the negative reviews on the Walmart website - some of them are really funny.

I like those whimsical bales of hay.

  7. LOLOLOL and I have to say, ROLLLLLLL TIDEEEEEEEEEEE...unfort. they are not in the championship arena this yr. ANYWAYS, thanks for the smile. I also have fine hair and use a Paul Mitchell knock off and I get it from Sally's Beauty Store-2 for $12. Post covid has really affected my hair needs as well--for some odd reason, Paul Mitchell closed up shop.

  9. Your corn recipe sounds very similar to the casserole I took to our community pot luck this evening. Yum! This is a nice catch-up post, Myra, and I enjoyed it! The painted hay bales are cute! Sending weekend love & hugs! xo

  10. Thanks for the warning about Harry and David. I used to order pears from them and loved them. Because of this post I thought about trying once more, they still get good reviews, but I tried using their chat option to check the "satisfaction guaranteed" they used to have. I managed to get from their bot to a live person who said she was reviewing my question. But she disconnected before answering. I did not order. Again, thanks!

  13. I'm so disappointed to read about Harry and David. You are right! They used to be a great place to order gifts. How sad. Hope you have a great week!!

  14. I say, Amen to the Sunday calories. Its' usually one of the biggest meals of the week here. Don't you just love it when someone makes your day like the gal at the toll both did? Too bad more can't be like her. We see a lot of lop sided trees here along the roads where they have trimmed the trees. I agree, better to have our electricity. It's always good to give thanks when it's deserved. You really got cold there. I have to day we've been colder. I do enjoy that simple pleasure often myself. I'm thankful we haven't had much snow. Some have mountains of it, but not here for sure. Have a relaxing Sunday ! Enjoy! Love, ma

  15. from the master bloviator to another, I loved every blessed word!!!
there are toll roads in Alabama? what will be next? sorry, had to say that.
where does said toll road go? you missed one tiny detail. I think your pluses out weight the minus today which is a good thing. this is one major reason i use Amazon for everything. click, click and save and drive 1.4 miles to UPS store and boom a refund. no hassle returns. hope they give you a refund. I have a hard time finding lotion for dry skin because it MUST be unscented. I found a new one and told bob, this is the best I have found yet and that means next time I try to buy it there will be none on the shelves. JUST had a thought for a post, so thank you
