Thank you for your positive response to my recent 'exercise' ... an evolved elevator speech, if you will. I was a little concerned y'all would think it stupid, but I'm delighted to see one of you (so far) has taken up the game!

Thank you for disagreeing with the ophthalmologist, saying retinal surgery is "probably not necessary" for another year. Instead, new glasses with prisms are being made; I'm praying this will correct Tom's double vision.

Everyone knows I loathe being late. At Wednesday's estate sale, however, this was a good thing.
Due to a delay at the VA, I almost said, "Let's just forget about it." But no, we weren't far from what my father used to call the 'silk stocking district.' (And I do love seeing the insides of some of those homes.)
With only a couple hours remaining, everything was 50% off. I was checking the tag on a lovely woolen coat when one of the associates said, "Michael just said all the clothing is $1." Woot!

For a grand total of $8.25, we also came home with a Black/Decker food chopper, new (sealed) box of scented bath bombs and a set of Norman Rockwell drink coasters.

Dear Hollywood casting directors,
Most likely because my way-overdue dental appointment is approaching, I've become super focused on others' smiles. Everything from contestants on Family Feud to old westerns on the Grit network Tom enjoys.
What's annoying, when I spot an 'injun warrior' astride his painted pony and he opens his mouth to reveal perfectly straight, sparkling white teeth. Same for the druggie/vagrant on a recent network telecast.
Jus' saying .... thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

I'm smiling, thanks for such a neat entry. Glad for the glasses story. I would tell you to tell whatshisname to close one eye, but I ain't gonna do that since that what I do to try to cut down the blurring. I hope the prisms do the job. Working on my eyes scares me. I had the cataract surgery and was nervous enough.

With my yellow teeth I do understand your comment about director's choices. ALL those PERFECT smiles, LOL my dentist downplays whitening at my age. LOL

I have made so many comments that now Bob is doing it. once i said about a news cast with 4 talking heads, LOOK they all went to the same dental facility and got fake teeth. every smile was the same. regret to say, some of the comments I make are like, does she know that purple lipstick makes her teeth so much more YELLOW/ 😋

ReplyDeleteI agree that most people seem to have bright white perfect teeth on TV. From presenters, to singers, comedians and news readers.
I like those two jackets you got. We don't have sales like these in the UK. We used to have charity sales in church but these have mostly stopped too. Pity. Last one I went to in our church I sold my books.
Autumn is getting cold over here. All the shops are full of Christmas goods, as well as Halloween.

Come to think of it, my mother used to participate in church rummage sales. Ladies would pile their 'stuff' atop long tables and folks would 'rummage' through it all.

DeleteEyes can be scary. I need prisms and they don't always work for reading... I mostly have to cover one eye. A few years ago they wanted to do retinal surgery on one of my eyes but I passed. It was a good decision because the problem has been stable and that's not what's causing problems. Fingers crossed for Tom/you both!

DeleteBoth of those jackets are beautiful!! Hope the glasses work for Tom! No one wants surgery if there's another way. Well at least I don't. My sister has cataract surgery next week that she's dreading, but hoping it will help, as she can't see well enough to drive right now. She also has macular degeneration, like my mom did.

DeleteAbout a year ago, my cousin Nancy had to get glasses with prisms for double vision and it seems to be working well. I hope it helps Tom. I had never heard of this before.

DeleteMy sister's hubby got prism glasses for double vision and they worked for him so I hope the same success for your Tom!! Great finds at the estate sale!! Love the jackets! Joe and I commented about teeth all the time! I watch a lot of British TV and some of their mouths really need some major work! I hate my teeth and they will never be white because of antibiotic damage to the enamel. Ugh. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend! xo

DeleteGreat finds at the estate sale!! Hoping the change in lens and the like help Tom with his vision! Nothing worse than not being able to see right or having double vision! I am still working on my A/Z lol. I continue to come up with letters in the middle of the night and then forget the words in the morning. I'm about halfway through :)

DeleteMy father had prism glasses until he had cataract surgery and got "implants" and never needed the prisms again...it was amazing. And I agree with the teeth thing...For those of us with normal teeth that are not evenly spaced or sparkling white, I just keep smiling anyway. I can still chew my food and am thankful for that everyday. I refuse to let all the fake smiles and botoxed lips and faces make me feel inferior. I've lived 72 years (tomorrow) with this face and smile and it's gotten me plenty of smiles in return...so that's all that matters. Oh, those jackets are gorgeous! What a deal you found! I'm still thinking about the alphabet game you shared...I will try to complete the exercise soon. Have a blessed day my friend, and keep smiling! You are gorgeous.

DeleteI'm so thankful that Tom's eyesight can be corrected with new lenses. I rarely smile where anyone can see my teeth, They are in terrible shape but dental work is so expensive I cannot afford it . I love seeing all the wonderful smiles showing people with teeth. They are the lucky ones. Those were some wonderful clothing sales. They look brand new and will make a wonderful addition to your wardrobe. Hope you both have a wonderful weekend there. Since I cut down on sugar and most carbs seven years ago, I've only gone for cleanings and checkups, with the exclusion of getting a tiny enamel chip fixed on Thursday. I realized when I sat in the procedure room I hadn't been there in years. I didn't start out thinking about my teeth, but it's been an amazing benefit.
