A Week in the Life

.... of a splendidly Imperfect blogger.   And come daybreak, we start all over again!

Backing up several days --

Have you ever done something so incredibly stupid you laugh through the pain?

The other evening 'dumpster diving' took on a whole new meaning.  Before wheeling it out to the curb, for some reason (?) I thought it necessary to retrieve something (?) from the bottom of the refuse bin.

The villain

Somehow, I lost my balance and came down hard on the lip.  There are no words to describe the pain; my life flashed before my eyes. "Is this the way it ends, then?"  How embarrassing.

Thankfully, no ribs were fractured but I've a new appreciation for human anatomy.  I'll never take the simple act of blowing my nose for granted again. (lol)

A couple days later we were back on the road to Big City.  I'm not crazy for this new eye doc but Tom allowed, he's never before had such a complete exam.  She made no promises but has referred him to a retinal surgeon here in Montgomery.

No question, since we were already in the vicinity, Tom took me for a bite to eat at my favorite restaurant.

Breaking tradition, I ordered cheeseburger spring rolls.  Delicious, ... but I've a question for the foodies out there:  How on earth are you supposed to eat wraps?

They were too large to be put in my mouth in one piece -- but when I tried cutting them, the fragile outside splintered like an egg shell.

Let's just say I'm glad we were seated in a corner booth!

Friday evening we and another couple from church were invited to Pastor Janet and Andy's beautiful new home for supper.   I was expecting burgers and brats on the grill, but no.  She'd put out a wonderful array of appetizers -- and who was I not to oblige some of each. (lol)

Later came scalloped potatoes, fresh green beans and pork loin with two different dipping sauces ... followed by a dessert bar featuring ice-cream sundae makings and cheesecake.

Oh yes, I did.
And paid dearly for it all Saturday.

But wait, there's more.

Waddle, waddle.

After services this morning the church hosted a chili cookoff in the fellowship hall.   Have you ever felt deep down, pretty darn sure yours was going to be a winner?

Not even close.  At least, my 'double meat, no beans' entry beat out the venison.  And Cindy's banana pudding made my insides smile.

What can I say?

Heck, it's all good.
And so, my friends, are you!

Hugs, Myra

  3. So sorry to hear about your accident with the wheelie bin (dumpster). Thankfully you are OK. When I started reading I thought you fell in head first with your feet sticking out.

Praying for you and Tom health wise and happiness wise too. May you be always happy.

What a generous pastor you have. I have asked our priest to be generous too and give us shorter sermons. He just sends me to sleep. I can't help it.

    God bless always.

    1. Funny! I never even thought about falling headfirst into the bin. It actually might have hurt less.

  6. Victor said what i thought when the story of the garbage can, what i call ours, came up. glad nothing was broken and no blood. when i fell several years ago, nothing broke but wow did I bleed, arms and legs.
glad Tom likes the eye doc, hope they can help. Yay you got to see the new home, and Wow, your whole week involved food. it all sounds and looks delish, but I can eat nothing you mentioned, and for that I am so sorry. someone asked how i stay on the IBS diet, the anwser was, when the pain and diapers are the whip, I follow the plan. I guess that could be called one good thing about IBS

  7. My gosh! All that delicious sounding food!! I would avoid the scales at all costs this week, lol :) Ouch with your tumble though! Lesson learned and thankful no significant injuries (except to your pride I am sure). No idea how to eat those rolls properly. I think I would make a mess of them myself, though they do sound yummy!

  9. No matter what else goes on, you two certainly do eat well. Those small pleasures do make a difference. I love chili and hoped to share a recipe today, but alas I forgot and will do it tomorrow. Hope all goes well with the new eye doctor and Tom will see good results. Thanks for sharing your week. Love, ma

  11. Sorry about your fall. I'm assuming you were at Cheesecake Factory. I love those hamburger rolls. I order them all the time now. Sounds like the chili cook off was fun.

    1. You're right! But Debby, how do you eat yours? Fingers or forks?

  12. Did you know that yesterday was National Cheeseburger Day? What you chose to eat, even if it was a bit messy, is a tribute to that!
Sorry about your fall, for sure, Myra, but thankful you are in good enough shape to write about it. I, too, have to be extremely careful when it comes to my balance; there are certain chores I either can't or won't do anymore because of it. Yes, PT is helping, and I am getting stronger, but no need to take chances!
Blessings, and have a great week!

    1. That all depends which city I'm in .... but while in Birmingham, Cheesecake Factory owns my hungry heart.

  14. You are beautifully amusing! Your fall was no laughing matter, but your WRITING is hilarious. I'm happy you're ok. I, too, fell this summer when I tripped on a pile of garden hoses. Went down on my side but not hurt just scratched up. That special luncheon wrap looks wonderful. Your wonderful comment came through my email, but not my blog. Guess there's a Blogger glitch out there I'm hearing others talk about.

    1. Thank you, Mary! Ya, I struggled with missing comments before another blogger gave me a head's up -- now I'm in the habit of checking for hidden comments (on my dashboard) and marking them "not spam.' It's always something!
