... for Friday Fill-ins, that is. But before I do, an update:
Praise God, everything went well with Tom's procedure. After dropping the girls at 'camp', we jumped on I-65 and were settled in my favorite hotel by 3.
Hilton it's not -- but for affordability and a bit of pampering I don't think you can beat Candlewood Suites. (And no, I wasn't asked to say this.) For instance?
Is anyone else 'done' with those little amentity bottles that contain maybe a tablespoon shampoo? Even my Tom commented on the luxury of their bath towels. It's been several years since my last stay, but one new touch I loved: The 5 pillowcases were embroidered either "Firm" or "Soft." (ahhhh...)
Anyway! As directed, we were at UAB's Heart/Valve center at 6:30am -- where I lingered the next 13-1/2 hours.
Every day's a school day. In between games of Solitaire, I learned there's a new generation Alexa that mimics your voice ... and (coming soon!) perfume-scented ice cream.
Because there were no rooms at the inn hospital, I spent Thursday night in the world's Hardest Recliner beside Tom's bed in post-op. In the morning I felt like a homeless person --and probably looked that way, too.
Lawdy, I wish I could get over not being able to see to drive at night! Anyway, I made my way back to the hotel to retrieve my stuff, check-out and come back to pick up the girls. A grand reunion ensued, followed by a measure of self-pampering: Cabernet Savignon and 1/2 bag of Pistachio nuts = supper.
Now the doctors want to put in a pacemaker. As of yesterday afternoon, however, 2 out of 3 docs couldn't agree when. Best case scenario, Tom gets to come home tomorrow. Flip side, if he doesn't walk out first (ha!) they'll do it Monday. I'm trying not to stress; God's got this. I just need to find someone to trouble-shoot my car's A/C. "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille ...."
Now onto the Friday Fill-ins. Thank you, Anne!
1. The grossest food I ever ate was: Lutefisk
2. The best tasting food I ever had was: DIL Lois' banana pudding
3. I probably should (but I won't): Get over my aversion to mowing, edging, weeding ..... basically being outdoors.
4. If I could have an unlimited supply of one item, I would pick: Professional house-cleaning services. Retirement has taught me, "I don't have time" is no longer a valid excuse. LOL.

DeletePraying for Tom and for the decisions to be made on his behalf regarding the pacemaker, etc. I know nowadays that is a pretty "easy" procedure, and it can certainly save a life. My mother had one and was very thankful for it. Candlewood Suites sounds nice. I love Watkins' products...I actually used to sell them many moons ago, along with also being a Fuller Brush dealer and way before that a Stanley Home Products dealer. Those were great/fun ways to earn some extra money when our kids were young. Anyway, back to you...I hate that your car AC is having trouble...who wouldn't in this heat...but not good timing at all. Praying it will hold up until you can get Tom settled again and then deal with that later. (((HUGS))) and prayers for both of you...and the car AC.

DeleteGlad to hear the good news about Tom's procedure! Praying for the pacemaker procedure on Monday. I'm sure that will be such a benefit for his health! That hotel sounds lovely! I like the touch with the marking of the pillow and I'm glad they offer firm. I'm a firm pillower myself and often toss the hotel pillows on the floor since they are too fluffy for me. I too agree about those little bottles of "complimentary" shampoos and the like in the hotels. Hardly worth the effort in my opinion. I'm with you about night driving in general. I avoid it like the plaque. Ick about the AC not working. so essential for summer and comfort!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you in on a secret of mine. I plan to work many a more year just so hubby can do the house cleaning, lol. He took it over when he retired and I kept working. That alone is a benefit of getting up and going to work (plus I like my current job a lot :)
Take care of yourself. Glad you indulged in a little wine and nuts. Remember the caregiver does need to make sure their needs are also being met!

Oh, I love your and your hubby's housekeeping 'arrangement'! I, too, am really particular about my bed pillows. While at The Legacy I floated the idea of a pillow menu (idea stolen from cruise ship), but my boss said that was too expensive.
DeleteI am praying for a successful pacemaker procedure for Tom. That hotel/motel sounds deluxe. To me housework is a bore and I prefer gardening because of the beauty of my flowers and gardens. It seems artistic to me. Remember to pamper yourself as the caregiver needs care too.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I think Candlewood Suites is a middle-of-the-road brand, but obviously they listen to what guests want. Forgot to say, each room has its own full-size dishwasher, refrigerator (with ice maker), microwave, etc. with all the pot and pans one might want. Oh, and a complimentary laundry facility. Gee, I sound like a spokesperson - hahahaha!

ReplyDeleteHow lucky you have an Alexa that will deliver perfume scented ice cream. Presumably it has a little container that self-fills with ice cream! Does it also make pizza, or Guinness? My Alexa tells me not to be lazy and to go to the fridge and help myself.

Deleteoh no on the ac, these days it is a necessity not just a want. Prayers they will soon make up their mind and get it done before he comes home. you might not get him back there plus you would have to do the hotel thing again. I am always for get it all done now as soon as possible and doctors don't get that.

I need two firm and 1 soft to be able to sleep. the shampoo is nice. when I traveled in the past, i took pillows and shampoo with me. haven't been anywhere since 2008 so not a problem now.. I am with you on banana pudding, but that would be my mothers or the women in KY that taught her how to make it. enjoy your TV remote on or off, your choice. yay. enjoy the freedom to do what when and how and where for a couple days by yourself..FREEDOM let it ring
I'm generally not fond of sweets, but that pudding's in a class by itself. Can't believe it took me 70 years to discover! AND, the TV's still off ... yay!

ReplyDeleteI can completely identify with the impossibility of driving at night. I have night blindness - - which is why I went over the cliff in Arkansas on that pitch black night in the pouring rain (in retrospect, I'm laughing).
I absolutely hate those tiny half-ounce bottles of shampoo in motels - - and the tiny bars of soap made for munchkins.

DeleteI'm glad Tom's procedure went well. Yes, I am tired of those small bottles! Sorry about having to do things alone. Makes us appreciate our men more when this happens. I like your choice of dinner. About 20 years ago or more my father had a pace maker put in. I don't know the exact reason but it seems as though it was for A-fib. Sorry about your A/C. Yes, God has this and I'm keeping you and Tom in my prayers. Keep us posted. ((Hugs))
