What's happening here

... What it is ain't exactly clear.
But you know, I'm gonna yak about it. (*grin*)

In the kitchen

Go figure.  We're shivering in our boots!  There's an expected 23* low tonight ... and all the chili, the green enchilada soup's been consumed.

I'm probably the only soul in the Western Hemisphere who's happy with the forecast.  However, that doesn't translate to making another batch in the slow cooker.  It's going to be 80* in another few days.

I spotted this out on FB and laughed out loud ... because it's TRUE!

Both of us instinctively use the front left
which makes no sense because the microwave takes up the available counter space.  Plus, I'm left-handed.
Do you have a favorite burner?

Ah, little things mean a lot.  For instance...

Have y'all tried these?
Mine was an 'impulse' buy for Tom's birthday.  He loves them!

I've resisted, but get a huge rush when I near my face to the open bag and breathe deeply.  You can keep the fancy perfume -- this is my new favorite aroma.  Ha!

Then there's dish soap.  I've hated this leaky dispenser since Day #1 -- but saw no good reason to replace it.  Imagine my glee when it recently met an unfortunate end at sink's bottom.

Amazon to the rescue!
I'm all about mason jars, so there was no question what to buy.
Except.

I realized the only dish soap on hand was a brand-new bottle of blue Dawn.  (Key word, blue.)
As some of y'all know, I don't DO blue.

Thankfully, Tom said, "Heck with the $2.88. Go buy what you'd like and I'll put the blue stuff in my shop."

Winner! Winner!
Isn't it cute?

Okay, let's step out of the kitchen!

Yesterday afternoon Jean's family and friends finally gathered for a celebration of life.  Everyone was asked to bring a dish to share, so I did a broccoli/cauliflower/water chestnut salad folks always seem to enjoy.  Sorry, it never occurred to me to get photographs.  This is something taken in happier times.

(l-r) me, Brenda, Jean, Helen, Shannon, Sally, Kevin, Sue, Kristen, Sharon

Fearing there wouldn't be anything keto-friendly, I fixed myself a pulled-pork and fried egg skillet before leaving --
then fell off the wagon big time when I spotted a big carrot cake at the end of the counter.
(Yep, it was totally worth every stinkin' crumb!)

Surprised.  And grateful!

One of my sweet friends gifted me a new contemporary-language Bible yesterday!
Brenda remembered my having admitted (at a previous study) how I struggle to make sense of the printed word in my traditional edition.  I'm not proud of it, but more often than not, when reading scripture my eyes begin to roll back involuntarily.

I've high hopes for The Message!

Finally,
I love this ... hope you do, too!

Despite the hour lost, have yourselves a super weekend!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Front right because it fits most of the skillets and pans - I laughed too! A lovely visit here today, Myra. I love that last quote and couldn't agree more. Love ya! xo

    1. Yep, it was the NKJ version. Happy I've never been called on to read scripture, and wouldn't be able to pronounce half the names or places.

  3. It's presently 18 degrees in the afternoon as I'm writing this...and winter has definitely lost its charm (alas, in a few weeks I'll be complaining about the bugs and heat).

I always gravitate to the burners on the left side of the stove. Have no clue why.

It's very strange that my favorite color is blue - but I don't like ANY blue decor in the house. Perhaps I only like blue skies and blue oceans.....

I never heard of candy birthday kisses, but any aroma that emits an intoxicating rush is okay in my book.
I like the quote at the end of your post.

    1. Brrrrr! You can't beat blue in nature, tho' it's sure popular in modern design. I'll just stick with my fuddy-duddy earth tones.

  4. I love that left-side, front burner, too, Myra! Then again, great minds think alike, don't they? And I know I would never have been able to resist that carrot cake either. Next to cheesecake, this is my absolute favorite.
And the meme at the end? That's how I feel about every one of my blogging buddies. That we met and hit it off is totally God's doing. I'm grateful for all of my online friends!
    Stay warm!

    1. Thanks, Martha! Were it not for my DIL serving it a few years ago, I still might never have tried carrot cake. Aaargh!

  5. I always use the right front burner! I love that soap dispenser. I didn't know that you don't like blue!

  6. I am a front left burner gal also. I don't think I have ever used all four of mine.

  7. Love your new soap dispenser and so sweet of Tom to change out the color of soap for you and take blue for his shop! I'm going to look for those kisses; I'm not sure I would like them but definitely going to give one (or two or a whole bag) a try! What is the recipe for the salad you made? It sounded delicious!

Wow with the weather; I'm shivering here myself just thinking of 23 degrees! We're warming up next week and I'm going to be happy to see 87 degrees mid week!

The Message bible is actually a paraphase Bible but it could be a great start for you to read and hopefully move on to your traditional Bible. This article described it pretty well.

Run it past your pastor and see what she thinks of the Message (and let me know what she says :)

We tend to use the right side burners here on the stove :)

    1. Thanks for the link, Betty! Here is mother's recipe -- simple and delicious:
I usually make the the night before, then 'doctor' it before serving.  For instance, yesterday morning we added another cup of sour cream and more seasonings.

1 bunch broccoli, broken into florets, 1 bunch cauliflower, broken into florets, 1 7-oz. pkg green peas, 1 can sliced water chestnuts. Small red onion diced, 2-3 cloves garlic, 2 c. mayo, 1 c. sour cream, 1 T. garlic oil
Mix all together (I use my hands and squish!) and refrigerate overnight.

  8. I think men can be more practical than women when there's a problem to solve. We too had difficulty placing the microwave oven in the limited counter space in the kitchen. So I placed it sideways up. I was asked to leave the kitchen as I heard the word "idiot" mumbled softly. I am also criticised when I put a large pan over two burners so that the water boils faster. My practical skills are not appreciated over here.

I love cakes. Sometimes I buy a birthday cake from the shop for no apparent reason with no birthday to celebrate.

Hope it soon warms up a little. It is still very cold over here.

    Best wishes always. God bless.

    1. At least it was mumbled softly; are you sure you didn't misunderstand? (*grin*)
Hey, somebody somewhere must be having a birthday. Good of you to help celebrate.

  9. I alternate between the front left and front right, but mostly the front right because it is closest to the larger section of the counter where I do most of my prep for cooking, and I keep a big wooden cutting board there to set hot things on, etc. I enjoyed your post. It will be 26 here in the morning. But at least it stopped raining and thunder and lightning...So I'll tolerate it one more time and then it better get back to normal spring weather! Enjoyed your post as always. Have a great weekend.

  10. Grinning...thank you...we have a gas range and I prefer the left-hand side and I am right-handed. I hope you have a beautiful evening, and you can have our cold and snow if you want, grin.

  11. We use the right front burner.

    Keep warm.

  12. I'm smiling because I have a favorite burner it is right front. I looked over at out stove here in the RV and realized that is back in NC here we have one center burner in front, of course we use it most.
Girls and colors. I forget what color D/W, hand soap and mouth wash Sherry prefers. I don't think I have a preference, but I try to remember to ask before I buy! If I get it wrong she tolerates it.
As always, 'tis a good visit, sherry already has the heater on LOL. She ain't happy with cold weather. She thinks I am a lizard and don't kow cold from warm.
Love ya lady and Tom is a thoughtful guy and can handle blue! Probably the Blues too!

  13. Yum on the new kisses ! I will have to look for them. I'm so done with cold weather. We had terrible cold and wind yesterday and it blew right through me. I didn't warm up till I got in bed last night . We may 60 degrees here this week and that's a big relief! Hope you have a great week ahead too ! Love that picture of you with your friends. What a great group !

  14. I have not tried the Kisses. I love the soap jar. I use Bell jars around the house. The front right burner is my favorite. Hooray for the carrot cake. I have found that an NIV Bible works for me. Take care.

  15. Left handed me uses my left front burner for small pans and skillets. The right front for larger skillets and pots and pans. I love blue but my mom loved green and dad did too. So our Spring comforter has beautiful soft colors and they match our light sage green room darkening curtains. Being blue eyes I love wearing blue. I prefer the New American STandard bible as it is closet to the orginal Greek language but I have a NIV Women's bible. A blogging friend gave it to me years ago. It has a beautiful soft leather like lavender cover. It is a treasure. I was stunned and grateful at Susan's attitude toward my posts and she attended a WOmen's Bible COnference and bought that bible for me. Carot Cake is soooooo yumy. Village Inn actually makes a killer carrot cake. It is the hardest thing to stay away from carbs and sweets. I'm a weak willed person for those things. We bought Irish soda bread for today too. Rebekah is putting the corn beef in her Insta Pot. Love your soap dispenser. Aw...so cute!Have a fabulous birthday today! HUGS & LOVE
