... and don't it feel good?!
Good morning!
Somehow, it's March! Is it coming in like a lion where you live? Not at all -- it's behaving beautifully. Tell us one fun thing on your March calendar. Well, I'll celebrate a birthday on St. Paddy's Day. No plans, but I love to dwell on the possibilities!
In what way(s) do you "march to the beat of your own drum"? The only thing I can think of is my diet lifestyle. For decades now -- before Keto became a household word -- I prefer 90% red meat, 9% veggies/eggs/cheese, few grains, NO fruit.
Of course, there are exceptions -- like this last weekend when we overdid it with sweets. But until there comes a time my labs look a bit wonky, I see no reason to change my ways.
The Hodgepodge lands on Dr. Seuss Day. Do you like eggs? I 💚 eggs! Ham? Nope. Share a favorite quote from one of his books. Since I've never read any Dr. Seuss, I asked 'Dr, Google' and was blown away by both the silly, the profound. Let's go with --
Have you read Little Women? How about Alice in Wonderland? Yes, to both. Did you love them, like them, feel just eh about them? All 3, at some point in my life. Why is this question in the Hodgepodge today? (*Raising my hand*) - March sisters, March Hare.
How do you meal plan? I don't! How often do you shop for groceries? Anytime one of us gets the notion. One homemade meal that was on your menu last week, or is on your menu this week? We won't be fixing anything new until all the leftover party food is consumed. Since I ordered for 21 and only 9 showed, there's literally NO room in the freezer.
Insert your own random thought here.
So yes, Tom's daughter arrived in good spirits. We spent a few enjoyable days just piddling and visiting.
Downtown Wetumpka
Shrimp and grits
Fried green tomatoes
It was a bit disappointing when one of Tom's dearest friends -- together with 3 other couples who'd said they were looking forward to coming -- were no call, no-shows. I get (that) things happen, but what does it take to make a phone call. 90 seconds? Is that the 'new normal'? Ugh ... don't get me started!
Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed those who came. So much so, I totally forgot to take pictures. Other than ...
Something tells me, it's going to be a good month. 'Hope y'all are feeling the vibe!
Hugs, Myra

We're keto only twice a week now and aware of it other days, since that is how we lost a lot of weight but I still overdo it on sweets now and then!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a perfect compromise!
Deletegiggled a little over DownTown Wetumka! I love that name. what you said about your labs is perfect with what the pharmiscist told me yesterday. I asked if he thought drinking peppermint tea at wake up before taking my thyroid pill would interfere with it. he said your labs next time will tell you and if it does, she can just adjust the dosage. good decison on your part. I have never in my life said I would do something and not do it. even If i did not want to and certainly would not say one thing and do another. rude is what I say.. I just wish I could say i had pre cooked food leftovers in my freezer.
ReplyDeleteYa, that 'downtown' is largely the part which was done by HGTV's 'Hometown Take-over' last year. Real touristy feel now, but the food's good!
Deleteshrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes are two (maybe three?) of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteI've a shellfish allergy, but thoroughly enjoyed my Gouda grits.
DeleteI would be so sad if I were allergic to shrimp. I have a LOT of environmental allergies and take shots for those so I'm thankful that I can eat shrimp!
DeleteLove fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits is a favorite of hubby.
ReplyDeleteNeither Tom or Nan had ever had shrimp/grits, but they loved it. (I've a shellfish allergy, so watched from the sidelines.)
DeleteI'm glad everyone had a nice time on Tom's B Day - but it's annoying and rude when people promise to come but never show up. As you said, it only takes a few moments to make a phone call.
ReplyDeleteI've always marched to the beat of my own drum - which is never well-received. Most people hate noncomformists.....
I've read "Alice in Wonderland" but not "Little Women". But I loved the 1949 film version (with June Allison and Elizabeth Taylor).
How often do I shop for groceries? I only venture to town once or twice a month. But lately I've started ordering things online (thank goodness).
BTW - March came in like a lamb, and I hope it stays that way....
Thanks, Jon! I kinda feared my upset may have been taken as an Emily Post throwback. Color me, stuck in the 50's tonight!
DeleteGeepers...I can't believe people could be so rude as to not even call...but I am glad you had a great time with those who did come. They were the ones meant to be there. The others either thought it was another date or they just plumb forgot. So sad they missed a great time! Your honey looks like he had a good time anyway, and having his daughter there was wonderful. so glad her plans came through even after changes to schedule, etc. I enjoyed your answers. Oh, The "March Sisters" and the "March hare"! Of course. You are the first one I've seen who got it! Wow. I probably wouldn't have figured it out either...that's why I don't do these things. LOL. Have a good night and week. Blessings...
ReplyDeleteRude, yesssss! I love your attitude; and hey, I'm lucky all that extra food was able to be packaged and frozen. Plus, I sent son and DIL home with a BIG doggie bag so she won't have to cook for a few days.
DeleteSorry to hear that people didn't even bother to call and say why they couldn't come to this party, Myra. The food looked amazing! I'm such a fan of shrimp and grits.
ReplyDeleteWhat day is Tom's birthday? Mine is the 1st of March. We didn't do anything special this year as we were in Oxford trying to sort through and get rid of more items at Mom's house, but I enjoyed my special day anyway. I'm sure Tom did, too!
Blessings!
Happy belated birthday, Martha! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed your Special Day!
DeleteTom's is 2/26 and I'm right behind on 3/17. Yay for us Pisces!
So sorry that some of the invited guests did not turn up; or even phoned. It's such bad manners.
ReplyDeleteOnly today, we were expecting tradesmen to arrive and the did not - not even a phone call. When/if they contact me I'll cancel the contract.
Best wishes to Tom on his birthday and many happy returns with good health and happiness.
God bless you both and your family.
Gosh, it seems thoughtlessness runs on both sides of the pond. Thank you so much for the well wishes!
DeleteYes, and the worst of all for me was calling one of the contractors to find out if he was still coming, he was already 3 hours late! Oh yes I am on my way, traffic is a little heavy (this is not DAytona or Oralando). Are you still coming? Sure I am on my way........ NO SHOW NO CALL. Things sure have deteriorated!!!
ReplyDeleteBUT I have never had shrimp and grits, BUT that looks so stinking good!! Love fried greed tomatoes though, mmmmmm!
AND I have never had eggs I did not like... Anyway will do...
Love you been so busy sorry to be later!
Sherry & jack sending love your way@!!!
Well, y'all wander this way and we'll take you for the best shrimp and grits in the River Region!
DeleteMarch weather is like spring so far. We will have to see! I'm sorry about your no shows, but I'm glad things are going so well for you. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised to hear you're feeling like Spring. One of the biggest snowfalls I can recall happened on my 14th birthday; I'll never forget standing at my bedroom window feeling sorry for myself when Sally Sibbett's wagon slowly made its way through the blizzard. One party guest was better than none!
DeleteSo fun that you went to Wetumpka! The shrimp and grits looks yummy! I had some fried green tomatoes just last week! Yummy again! Another fun Hodgepodge and I think you got the Little Women and Alice question right. Well done! xo
ReplyDeleteThat's the first time we've been since Hometown Takeover. Come on up anytime!
DeleteMyra for the win on why those books were in the questions today for March. I was clueless. So sorry for those friends who didn't let you know they weren't coming. I have a birthday 3 days before yours. Happy March to you!!
ReplyDeleteAnother March baby ... that's great! Whatcha say, let's celebrate all month!
DeleteYou figured out the answer to Joyce's question about why that question was on the hodgepodge! Good for you! I was at Debby's blog before yours and Joyce had given Debby the answer in her comment back, but I see you got it yourself! Good thinking! (I wouldn't have been able to come up with the answer myself).
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys enjoyed Tom's birthday celebration but I'm with you. Why didn't those who said they were going to be there let you know if their plans changed? I don't get that but it seems to happen more than not. Just not great manners. I'm sure Tom enjoyed his time with his daughter!
betty
People! I don't get it either, but have decided to just move on. Forgive but won't forget. (Ha!)
DeleteIt's my birthday month too. Looks like no matter the number of people. Tom had a great celebration. Happy birthday to him too. Glad his daughter was able to come. That helped to make it special for him. I love Dr Suess and quote him often. He's always been a favorite of mine. Hope you can enjoy a happy birthday motnsth. It's worth celebrating for more than just one day !
ReplyDeleteI agree! By the time we've reached this time in our lives, every day is worth celebrating!
DeleteI'm so with you on not calling. People are on their phones all the time, but don't get me started. So glad Tom's daughter could be there to celebrate with you. This month looks good. I'm finally going to see Hugh Jackman in "The Music Man" on Broadway. I bought the tickets in 2019 for 2020 and the reservations were moved four times. A friend from Florida will be joining me and we've got fun things planned for next week. Again, happy and healthy to Tom.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol! What a great treat you have in store! I look forward to reading all about it!
DeleteYou have become a true Southerner if you are fixing (or not fixing) meals. Are you sometimes "fixing" to go places?
ReplyDeleteI do not understand the lack of a phone call either!!!
*Chuckling* I've been "fixin to" do one thing or another since 1970-something when I lived in West Texas.
DeleteThat photo is so darn cute!!! Glad your weather is nice. I've always like a low carb diet and it has worked for us. We just need to stick with it. That is an interesting quote from Dr.Seuss. I don't meal plan either and how nice to have leftovers. Glad you had a nice visit with Tom's daughter.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was trying to make the bed and Grace kept jumping up and into the blankets asking me to play. What a 'momma' to do, but put aside her chores and grab the camera.
DeleteLoved your answers. It's always so hard sometimes planning for groups of people. I feel like I always over buy because I want to make sure there's enough. I love shrimp and grits. When I visited family in Florida a few years ago we made some. So good. I've always wanted to try fried green tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't keto=friendly, but I'm not beating myself up about it.
DeleteI think sending an anonymous book on equiette would be in order! I would gladly mail them for you! Yes, incredibly rude but rude too, RSVPing that we can not make a birthday arty and being beaten down but a psycho momma which I was unaware of it our phamily. SO sad, she called us bold faced liars. In a crummy tect no less. But even a nice text saying Sorry we can't make it would have been good. I am glad you all had fun and the food looks yummy. People are so bold and ruthless these days. What happened to good old fashioned manners? I am not fromt he South but grits, YUM YUM YUM! I love all seafood so it is hard finding healthier options when I eat those delghtful dishes. Noelle & COlton had lunch at Fogo de CHao - so jealous, all that delicious lamb and filet mignon and steak and sausage sugh..... Have a great evening!
