Which book could you read over and over again?
I don't recall ever re-reading a book ... not since the librarian at Pueblo Jr. High chastised me for repeatedly checking out the same books.
Personal aside: As some of you know, several years ago I inexplicably lost that lovin' feeling (for books). All my life I'd been a hungry reader. Had momma allowed, I'd have even tried carrying one to church services.
Sad, knowing that something I dearly loved now became something I made myself do.
A few months ago, however, I came across an article addressing 'reader's block.' My take-away: Put down the e-reader and pick up a real book.
With nothing left to lose, I visited our local library.
Knock wood, it seems to be working. There's something comforting about idly massaging the printed page between my thumb and index finger.
'Just throwing this out there in case you know anyone who similarly struggles.
What movie or TV program could you watch and never tire of watching?
It's a toss-up between
Forrest Gump
and
Both are favorite soundtracks.
(... as a matter of fact, I've Alexa playing the latter right now.)
What meal do you like enough to eat several times a week or several times a month? Got a recipe to share for it?
Not embarrassed to admit, I could eat some form of loose meat (ie, ground chuck) every day -- and often do.
Here's one variation -- tossed with chopped walnuts and cheddar cheese, sprinkled with olive oil.
What place do you enjoy so much that you go back again and again? Why do you like it so much?
Before moving, if someone told me I'd be answering 'my church', I'd have belly-laughed in their face.
However. A few days after arriving in Alabama I spotted a nearby church sign:
Come hear Sean Dietrich (aka, Sean of the South) on xxxxx at 7:00PM.
Heartbroken to realize the tickets were sold out -- but at my urging the following Sunday we visited that little old sanctuary. The rest, as they say, is history.
I found the family I didn't realize I was missing.

Whoa! I'm not usually he first one here, Myra, so I'll enjoy the space. :) I wrote on Terri's Tuesday 4 that pizza was a food I could eat multiple times in the month, but I should have gone for bacon. I can eat that every single morning at breakfast and often do!
ReplyDeleteBooks? I can't get enough of them, and I mean the real, tactile kind. When I begin to run out of new reads, you can expect a mini panic attack to ensue.

Bacon is sooo good, I agree! I'd enjoy it more often, were it not for the greasy mess left behind.
Deletethe years I lived in Ky, age 10 to 15 I read all books I could find several times, the books I owned, gifts were read until they were ragged, two of those Bomba and Tarzan and the City of Gold were falling apart.over a period of years there are maybe 4 books I read several times. Thor and Knight in Shining Armor, both paperbacks. My eyes got worse and paperbacks were to small to see, I got large print from the library . now I would go Bruce Willis on anyone who tried to take my Kindle e-reader. I have always read for escape and still read 2 to 3 books a week. I read one a week when in the workforce.
ReplyDeleteIt could be that you have more interesting things to do, I don't do social media except my blog. none of them. I rather read. I am thinking if suddenly you had no internet, you might start reading again. only my theory.
your church is beautiful, I went out and looked at the website, listen to five minutes of one of Pastor Janets sermons. I am happy you found a church home that you WANT to go to and not to be forced there. I don't reconize super trouper or the movie. I have maybe 15 movies that i have seen multible times over 30 years. all action movies.
I totally get what you're saying about the publisher's small print. Ugh! Not sure I've more interesting things, but would benefit from less naps or wasted time on FB.

ReplyDeleteYes I am re reading a series of 5 westerns that I only remembered I had read them years ago AFTER I finished the first one. Now I am on #4. LOL
Imma chicken type guy. since I was raised on fried chicken. LOL
Never had pizza until I was 16, but learned to love it.
Enjoyed the read as always. It is fun visiting your house (the food you picture ALWAYS looks (and sounds) good.

DeleteI read Little Women more times than I can count. Tried Kindle, but it made me feel like I wasn't reading. I am a ham and potato salad better than chicken.

ReplyDeleteI find it difficult reading books, even the one's I wrote. I've yet to read any of them.
As for the classics like Les Miserables, War and Peace and so on; I wait until they're on TV with captions on and then I claim I've read them.
I did have a Kindle. It broke when I used it to swat a wasp. Better to use a book. Modern technology is useless at old tasks.
It is so good that you find comfort in going to church.

I love your answers here. I am grateful for you that you found your church family. Aw....they must really be wonderful people. :-) I love books, we have a lifelong affair. I lost many classics in a termite infestation my folks had in this little house a boarder use to rent when I was a kid. So sad and lots of my favorite lps. too! Those termites were miserable critters right there with wasps U G H ! Two women I know, constantly berate those who do not or can not attend church. My mom attended Mass 7 days a week her entire life. When she was unable to go not one church person came calling. I know my mom is in heaven. Only God can judge us. I know we use to love the RedRocksCHurch, but with allt he 2020 commotion, they had a lottery. Now I know Jesus could care less where you pray as long as there are two or more. So I stick close to my readingof the Good word daily and pray, pray pray. My SIL Lucy was attending a Baptisit church and she loved going to the potlucks and taking a favorite dish. But once she had that ole virus, she figured it was the only place she was going, so she stopped. I am not bragging about this, but at social media I started simply posting Scripture or putting it on my story. You can not believe how many unbelievers have thanked me. I have a list of cards to get in the mail and I am mising my friend Pam who hosts our Sheltered;Encouragement group. I need to find out what is going on with her. She is a real gem, very much like you! HUGS & LOVE
ReplyDeleteAw, I love your candor. For much of my life I felt compelled to attend services. Yes, most of the folks in our LITTLE congregation are wonderful.
DeleteIt's outrageous that a librarian would chastise you for checking out the same books. I used to do that quite often and never got complaints.
ReplyDeleteI ABSOLUTELY agree that we should toss away those extremely annoying e-books and reacquaint ourselves with REAL books.
If I choose to read books "over and over", it's usually the classics - like Jane Eyre, Ethan Frome, A Christmas Carol, etc etc.
Same thing concerning movies. I love any of the old classics.
Food? There's a vast choice to consider. I could eat pizza constantly, Mexican food like burritos, tacos, enchiladas.....Italian sausage with onions and peppers, fish and chips...and any kind of fish.
I can't think of any place I'd want to go back to "again and again"....
but I'd like to have my youth back, if I could re-live it knowing what I know today.

Great thoughts about revisiting my youth. AMEN! Your food choices are making me salivate. But man, I miss not having REAL Mexican food. They just don't 'get it' down here.
DeleteI love books but I've had chronic eyestrain all my life. Kindle and audio books work best for me.

Great point about the certain aroma of books. I used to love when my grade-school teachers would pass out brand-new textbooks!
DeleteI'm sorry a librarian chastised you for reading the same books more than once. That's outrageous. I'm glad it didn't turn you off reading altogether. I'm also glad you got your reading mojo back. Thanks for sharing the video. I enjoyed the song.

DeleteSo glad you feel at home at your church :) Wow with that librarian! How could she chastise you like that? She should have been encouraging a love for reading, no matter what if it was the same book over and over again! I like the thought of picking up a real book if one is in a rut of not reading. I do read on the treadmill on my tablet and I have to say I sometimes wish it was a real book so I could go back and look at something read and read it again but it is hard to "flip the pages" on a tablet. The best thing is you are reading again :)

Ya, she was a mean old biddy. (LOL) Thankfully, the public library still holds a certain appeal. Sometimes while browsing all Kindle's offerings feels overwhelming.
DeleteI'm an avid reader and never experienced a readers block. I used to spend hours at the library but now I read on my kindle. The only movie I've watched over and over would have to be the Sound of Music. I still enjoy it as much as I first did. Church has always been my home away from home. It's the place that most of my fondest memories are retained. From weddings, baptisms and Christmases. They are treasured memories for me. Glad you found your reading and church again. Two of the best things in life for sure !

DeleteHere I am again. Lord I need to clean my glasses, I made too many typos on my first comment. UGH! AVery had his employee appreciation lunch at Maggiano's. He boguht $5 meals to bring home to us. I was disappointed int heir lasagne. ALl I could taste was basil! I love the lasagne at the Old Spaghetti Factory. But we are Mexican food people. In fact Avery & I had breakfast/lunch at Las Palmas two weekends in a row. Then I made the chicken enchiladas casserole. We used Santiago's green chili. I wonder why places like Michigan and the Southern states never got into the taste of good Mexican food. The guy who owns Santiago's is extremely successful. He has those places all over the metro area.Watching March Madness with Nick. He statrs the new job job on MOnday. I willbe sad not having him here to order luch for me or simply to sit and talk. :-) We are Kentucky Wildcat fans so they play tonight. We are watching CSU Ft Collins right now. Prayers up they win!
