Thoughts on Thursday eve

G'evening,

It may be only Hump Day, but I'm feeling led to recap our week.

As some of y'all saw on Facebook, after last week's grooming Macie Ann began favoring her right ear.  Concerned, I called her vet who had an opening Sunday afternoon.  He confirmed an infection: 2 kinds of bacteria -- thankfully, not the bad kind.  Antibiotic gel and a shot in the fanny, and our big girl's right as rain!  All the same, I'm not cancelling next week's check-up.

Monday was Tom's one month follow-up with the surgeon in Birmingham.  I wasn't delighted to travel amongst the outer bands of Hurricane Ida, but it was worth it.  Doc's happy with the results, but suggested we come back in 6 weeks to see if there's any further improvement.  Worst-case scenario, she may have to do the same (clip the muscle) in his left eye.

Anyway!  Tom went out to the flying field for the first time in nearly two years!  It was his buddy who actually flew, but Tom was pretty excited to be able to see it in the air.

OK then!  My 90-day challenge results:  12 lbs. gone (forever, I hope).  BMI 24 to 22.

Granted, the first two weeks were difficult.  I'd become so accustomed the last 3 years to randomly consuming Butterfingers, pizza ... senseless acts of eating because I was bored.

So, I asked Tom last night:  "Have you witnessed me denying myself this summer?"  Nope.  While he enjoys pasta, I normally go through 5 lbs. of loose meat (ground chuck) each week.... Conecuh sausage, eggs with fresh veggies, walnuts, Bellavitano cheese.

Now what?  I like this quote: "Our dreams are like the rest areas on a cross-country trip. They refresh us, help us to gauge the distance we've come, and give us a chance to consider our destination."

There's little I miss, but I do look forward to having a slice of cheesecake on our anniversary.  Perhaps the Remy Martin espresso martini I read about.   Or this!

Cahawba House's
"Best Breakfast Sandwich in State of Alabama"
(by USA Today)

Scrambled eggs, Conecuh sausage, fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese.  Hold the bread.  "It's big and messy ... a knife and fork kind of sandwich."

Something else before I go!  I can't remember if this has ever been discussed?

Recently I wondered, "Why do I always chew my food on the left side of my mouth?"

I shifted the next mouthful to the right side and ..... AWKWARD!  For a second I thought I might choke.

I consulted Google, which resulted in a mish-mash of differing opinions: Warnings of everything from facial assemetry to TMJ.  I'm going with the one that suggests folks are simply predisposed to chewing on one side or another.  "The process of chewing is almost automatic, requiring very little concentration on your part."

One less thing with which to concern myself.
Are you a 'leftie' or a 'rightie'?  Both?
Or, do you care? 🙂

Hey, I appreciate your visit!
Stay safe out there.

Hugs, Myra

  1. That breakfast sandwich looks awesome. MY brother lives in Cullman Alabama. Next time I fly out I must try and find that sandwich. Yum

  2. That sandwich absolutely looks yummy!! WTG on the pounds GONE and that awesome BMI!! I bet you feel and look great! It does sound like you eat a great variety of foods you enjoy and that's what matters!!

I chew on the left side mainly now that I think about it. I had to mentally eat a cracker in my head to see what side I would chew on and I tended to favor the left side :)

Glad Tom's checkup went pretty good and he had a chance to watch his buddy fly the plane! I bet that was great for his spirits!

    1. Thanks, Betty! I've no idea why that (chewie dilema) popped in my mind. Tom just goes, "You're weird." LOL.

  3. I think I chew on both sides of my mouth but will have to think to check the next time I eat something.

  4. CONGRATULATIONS FIRST ON THE 12 lb loss and for the Big guy getting out of the house for fun.
That sandwich is a DELICIOUS looking piece of ART!
I am right handed, not much control over the left. LOL
Love you lady, good to visit.

    1. Thanks so much! I'm going to look for a recipe to make fried green tomatoes and try this at home. Conecuh sausage has become a staple in our fridge.

  5. Sherry had a brother who was known and addressed as Lefty until he died.

  6. Conecuh sausage is the best! I buy it in the 5 pound pack at Costco, portion and freeze it.

  7. congratulations on those 12 lbs. yay and wild clapping. sorry for the trip in Ida but glad for the results. bob has now been to the flying field in 2 years either, his knees kept him from going and then pandemic. i am hoping he can fly when he is done with therapy in another week. i love my home alone time and he loves his time away from me the nagger. the only thing on a sandwich I like is The Bread! now because i found I am lactose intolerant AND gluten also, it is hard for me to find anything i like to eat. gluten free bread/crackers is pretty bad, but it has helped the IBS problem
I chew on the left, and started that when I had teeth pulled years ago on the right side. i am a right handed person chewing on the left. maybe that is causing my conufsion these days

  8. Praying for your health check and Tom's.

That's one big sandwich. Hold the bread. The rest looks delicious. Do they deliver to the UK?

God bless you and your family.

    1. I don't know about the sandwich-- but when we lived in Arizona, my son would order the sausage for us each year at Christmas.

  10. I never thought about what side I chew on before...now I will have to go eat something to find out! Somehow I think I chew on both sides, but honestly I never thought about it unless I had something hurting in my mouth, like when I bite my cheek or burn the roof of my mouth on something too hot. So glad Macie Ann is fine, and Tom is fine and flying high! Congrats on the weightloss! I NEED to do that, but am unwilling to make too many sacrifices to do it. I really don't eat a lot of sweets or fatty foods, or even breads...or dairy...so I can't figure out what's going on except I've become too sedentary this past year. Hoping when cooler weather gets here I can get out more often and "work" it off. LOL. Have a happy and blessed day. I'm off for a Dr. appt., follow up to my epidural, so I will write something later today Lord willing and the creek don't rise. Kids are getting better, praise God!

  11. Now, that's a breakfast sandwich bound to bite you back, so to speak. I'd love the taste, but now sure I could finish it, Myra. Glad Macie Ann is doing okay, but glad for Tom most of all. I know he's happy to be back "flying" again. :) And I never even thought about how/where I chew my food. I'll pay attention the next time I eat.
    Blessings!

  13. Good morning! Great post. Did you do Keto for 90 days or is it a specific 90 day plan? Great job! Your BMI is awesome!

    1. Thanks, Lisa! I used to abide by Atkins, but witnessing my DIL's 30-lb. weight loss on Keto, I've gone that way. More user-friendly, it seems.

  14. I'm a righty, and chew my food on the right side, something I've never really thought about until now! My little Buddy Boy came home from the groomers with an ear infection. I don't think the groomers had anything to do with the infection but maybe they aggravated it when holding his head while grooming. Good luck with you weight loss, I sure need to be doing the same thing.

  15. OH, I'm late getting here!! I never really thought about how I chew but I do believe I chew most often on the right side. Glad Tom got a good report and also that he got out with the plane for a bit! Love you, Myra!!

  17. Am I last again? You have so many adoring blog followers that I feel insignificant.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I personally don't think you need to lose weight, but what do I know? I'm just an innocent observer.

Chewing?? I chew on my left side - and I'm right-handed.

That breakfast sandwich looks great - I like the Conecuh sausage, but I'd get rid of the fried green tomatoes and change the cheese to cheddar.

  19. Congratulations on your weight loss. I flutter back and forth and have cut lots of things from my diet. But it is ever so hard. Last weekend Nick and Colton had a bottle of Remy Martin. Oh Lord, they drink it on the rocks. Holy Lord was it strong but I do not partake too often these days.
