Scene across the street this morning
Thankful, for the speedy response by our Air Conditioning service provider yesterday. Not 30 minutes after I called in 'panic mode', someone pulled into our drive. Two new capacitors and all's well again!
Only then did the storm arrive ... accompanied by LOUD thunder and lightning that went on for hours. More than once I went to the front window to be sure one of our trees wasn't down. Tom raised an eyebrow when he saw me go to the refrigerator, but hey. Near-death experiences make me hungry!
Reading
I just finished The Family Across the Street -- "A psychological thriller with a shocking twist." Never in a hundred years could I have predicted that ending. 4 stars!
In the kitchen.
Want to know when you're old? When you get excited, really excited, about sink strainers.
Because this is our first home with septic -- I'm uber diligent about not letting 'stuff' go down the kitchen drain. I can't tell you how many differt strainers I've tried, each a hassle to keep clean and free of debris.
Well, no more! Introducing, Dripsies! (Click here.) I've already ordered another pair for son and DIL and may get a second pair to have as back-up.
An upset?
A blogger friend - who shall remain anonymous - has a follower who seemingly enjoys calling attention to his spelling errors, etc. The other day, in fact, she made an unsolicited, disparaging comment about the length of a post. "Constructive criticism," she claims.
No, I'm not boiling. More like a slow simmer. This has no bearing on me, but stuff like that gets under my skin. She may be a very nice person, but I don't like her.
Looking forward
I got a PM last week from our Bible study leader, saying she'd sent me an invite on FB to a party she's having this coming weekend. "Hope you can make it!"
Lara Sue's indeed a nice lady, but in the last couple years, we've had little personal interaction. You might say, she's out of my league. Believing she'd been hacked, I sent an e-mail -- "Did you mean to send me a PM just now about a party?" (Think, the popular head cheerleader who remembers my name. LOL)
But yes. She's hosting a big 'End of Summer" bash, complete with a caterer and a band, and wants us there.
What I can't wrap my mind around, she's known the other ladies for years, but I'm only one of two (besides Pastor Janet) who's been invited.
... Obsessing (a teeny bit) over what to wear. Casual, but not 'poor' casual, ya know? I'm thinking Talbots casual. Gonna play it somewhere in between.
At least I won't be like this lady!
Y'all stay safe and sound!
Hugs, Myra

I ordered that strainer. MY husband is a stickler about strainers. (we all have our thing) I think he'll like these. Thanks.
ReplyDelete😀 Please let me know!
DeleteI'm from Alabama and know the dress code. When in doubt for a casual event, go country club casual.
ReplyDeleteI suspected as much ... thanks!
DeleteI agree with Anne! My mother-in-law always says that it is better to be the best dressed person at an event RATHER than the worst dressed person! Remember . . . she is 96!
DeleteThanks, Lisa!
DeleteGrommet has the best stuff for any and every thing! I have a disposal and am not on septic anymore but am still mindful about what goes down the disposal. Can't wait to hear about what you finally decide to wear and then to hear about the party! Interesting. Talbots casual sounds a bit like country-club casual (I guess). I would sure have to go shopping! LOL Keep us posted!! xo
ReplyDeleteYa, that's become my 'go-to' place for everything out-of-the-ordinary. Plus, I love they support small-business, MADE IN THE USA.
DeleteI'll have to look into that strainer and perhaps buy one for us and one for son's house. Glad you got invited to the party; sounds like it could be interesting. I'm sure whatever you end up wearing, you'll look smashing!!
ReplyDeleteThat commenter with her constructive criticism. Since when does someone comment on a length of a blog post? Perhaps she should just move on if she doesn't want to read the whole thing!! Its like she is bullying the blogger!! That would make my blood boil too!
betty
Thanks, Betty! Glad to know I wasn't just being overly sensitive about that bully.
DeleteI'm not sure, but looks like you have lake front property, huh? Glad you are not flooded and it is always a PLUS when something is fixed quick.
ReplyDeleteYep the septic tank is not exceptionally touchy, but it does pay to be diligent that is for danged sure.
I am glad we do not do parties anymore, having nor attending. I could never keep up anyway. Hope you have a great time, sounds good for you young folk. LOL Love ya and as always appreciate the invite into your home..
Of course, I don't appreciate personally appointed 'speling' police. HA!
Sherry & jack enjoying life in the slow lane, nearly stopped lane. LOL
Hahaha on the lake-front property. One of our neighbors commented on FB (that) this was the most rainfall she'd seen in 14 years.
DeleteLove the joke at the bottom!
ReplyDeleteHey what is a capacitor? Our a/c has a couple leaks - I want them fixed they want to put in a whole new system!
Tom tried to explain, but it went over my head. Not cheap -- but far more reasonable than a whole new system.
DeleteI'm glad you survived the latest storm and had the ailing AC repaired. It's finally cooled down here in TN.
ReplyDeleteI am extremely sensitive to criticism, undoubtedly because my father criticized me mercilessly until the day he died.
I think "constructive" criticism is rare. Most people criticize with ill intent. It makes them feel superior to belittle others.
I think there is a mental affliction with chronic criticizers. The old guy (SOB) who trolls my blog has been insulting me for years. He NEVER gives up.
I'd like to write more, but I'm using a virtual online keyboard tonight and it's very difficult to type.
Virtual online keyboard? ... Ugh!
DeleteI believe your phrase, "It makes them feel superior" nailed it.
I would delete any critical comment. My blog, my rules. No one is forcing the critic to read it.
ReplyDeleteHave a great time at the party. 😊
Exactly! Just get up and change the channel.
DeleteSo glad to hear you're OK after the storm. I always worry about tall trees in our garden in high winds.
ReplyDeleteI really like that sink strainer. I will check if they have them in the UK. So easy to pick up and clean.
That advert is brilliant. I never understand what they mean when they say "wear smart casual" I wear jeans and a tie ... tied round my waist instead of a belt! It's a smart tie ... really.
A great selection of articles in today's post. Thanx Mevely.
God bless.
Why not?! Akin to Venice's gondoliers?
DeleteThanks, Victor!
You must have sent the storm our way, Myra, because we got a huge soaking last evening along with some thunder. Ahh, living in the South!
ReplyDeleteAnd that commercial always cracks me up, too. Hope you have fun at the party you're wondering why you were invited to. Sometimes, those can be the best.
Blessings!
Oh, I hope there was no damage! Another blogger was w/o power. You're right about living in the South ... we ain't no sisies!
DeleteI love that video...so totally funny! I like that the girl says "Anyone want a turkey leg?", like she's just gonna make the most of her mistake. My kind of gal. Looks like you have lake front property now. I hope your taxes don't go up. LOL. Glad you are okay. Sink strainers? Interesting ones! I use actual little strainers in my drains all the time, and then just use the ones with the stopper when I need to plug the drain to wash dishes. But your idea looks great. I may have to check those out. Okay, the super critical commenter...oh my! I hope she doesn't read MY posts. They are always too long...and I usually don't find my spelling errors until AFTER I hit "Publish". No matter how many times I proofread it before publishing, I NEVER see the errors until I publish it. Why is that? Then I have to go back and fix it...or not. Depends on my mood at the moment. WYSIWYG. (what you see is what you get).If you don't like it, don't come back. LOL. I wonder, does SHE have a blog? Can we go check out HER spelling and length of posts???? Just wondering. Although, I must say I am guilty of cringing sometimes when I see really bad misspellings that make the post say something one really didn't intend for it to say...like POOP instead of POP, or something funny like that. LOL. Have a blessed day my friend. You always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteI know, right! (About the turkey leg, I mean.) I used to use those little strainers, and clean them with an old toothbrush. But they sat ON the edge of the drain and sometimes 'stuff' would get under and through. I like that these lie under the edge. ANYWAY. I love your blog and your WYSIWYG! Like Billy Joel's song, "Don't go changing to try and please me." And I think we've all been guilty of hitting the publish button prematurely. Figure my friends know what I meant.
Deletethat across the road looks like a swamp, so glad you are ok. i get frantic when the storms go on for hours.
ReplyDeletethat commercial kills me every time I see it. I was laughing the first time I saw it and Bob said what are you laughing at? the commercial. he said what's funny about it. He sees but doesn't listen..I am off to measure my sink, to see if it will fit, mine is old and proably will not.
I agree about the who made you boss.... no one forces people to read or not read.. rude!
I gotta take back what I said about commercials not being as entertaining as they used to be. This is a classic!
DeleteSo glad you got that a/c back on quickly. With a storm and everything shut up it would have been miserable. I think it's great you have a party to attend. I agree with summer casual, I never know what to wear anymore, but most go casual. I haven't been to a dress up party in a long long time.
ReplyDeleteMe, either! Honestly, I feel funny going to a party on 9/11, but it's probably better than sitting in front of the TV and weeping.
DeleteThat would really bother me if someone critiqued my blog like that. After all, it's my blog and I should be able to do it how I want, mistakes and all. lol
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your AC up so quickly. Okay, that video was just too funny. Hope you have fun at the party.
Oh, I'm feeling so gratified ... thank you for agreeing with my indignation at that lady!
DeleteSigh, well...it ain't me because we all know I have run on sentences and such, LOLOLOLOL...ANYWAYS, So sad, get a grip on reality (she, not you, lol).
ReplyDeleteGlad your ac is up and running, smiles.
I know, right? The term 'Get a Life!' comes to mind.
DeleteI'm anxiously waiting to see what you wear to the party. I know you'll be a knock-out. I wouldn't like if someone critiqued my blog either, if you don't like my blog, don't come for a visit!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about a knock-out, but I just hope not to get spinach in my teeth. Thank you so much!
DeleteGlad you got someone to come out for your air conditioner. I do like the sink drainer. I hope you get to go to the party. I am sure you will look wonderful no matter what you wear.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteOh Lord the critique people! U G H ! Go away. I'm not much for folks like that. Noelle our oldest likes to pick at my spelling. If she had cataracs she wouldn't see them either. I am waiitng on Rebekah to find her lost eye dr. because I know I need one. I have my regular eye exam on the 25th. That commercial cracks me up! Our kids Rebekah and Zach went to the Scottish\/Irish festival in estes Park. we worked in the garage. We could not see spending $28 a piece to get in YIKES! But they had the giant turkey legs. HaHaHa! We did go to the CHili Fest on Saturday in the blasted heat. UGH! But we may go back after my lab appt Thursday. My car is int he shop and AVery took off to take me. We want chilies and Lulu's carries all of them. SO happy! Saturday was too busy with a zillion folks milling around. Too busy for my taste. Glad your a/c works and I will check on the strainer. I have a disposable and I have caused a back up a time or two. sO I am VERY CAREFUL. Have a great evening HUGS and LOVRE
