Trust

Weren't we just talking about that?

Lip service is all well and good ... until something comes along to make us me question my assumptions.  For instance --

Thursday morning Victoria arrived to install the I-WAVE system.   I hovered, watching and listening as she explained how it operates.

"But how can I be sure it's working?"

It has a little green light that glows, but!  I'd have to go hunting through Tom's toolbox to find the particular gizmo to take apart the HVAC's face plate to see it.

Since I practically had to strong-arm Tom into getting this, I'm reluctant to share my misgivings.

Okay.  Maybe 'misgivings' is the wrong word.  Certainly, I believe in the documented evidence.  But gosh, I'd feel better if it would make a noise once in a while, or DO something.

Sound familiar?

So earlier this morning, I was prepping Sunday dinner while watching church services via Facebook.   Having recently been exposed to a family member, Pastor Janet and Andy are self-quarantining -- so today's service was actually video-taped on their empty lot next door.

[I'm listening to the music again while writing this, so please forgive if I accidentally slip in a Hallelujah. 🙂 ]

This message may not be everyone's cup of tea.   But here's the part that grabbed me.  (24:59 minute mark)

"There may be some who are struggling with trusting God.  Maybe because you didn't sense that He was present with you when the suffering was happening.  He wasn't listening to you when you needed Him most."

She continued,
"Today when Andy was starting this fire behind me he had the logs all piled up and the fire was lit and the flames began to blaze.

He knew it was burning.  He felt the heat from the flame, he saw the light from the fire. He smelled the smoke.

I did not.  I was on another part of the property; I had my back to the flame.  I didn't see it burn. I was far enough away that I couldn't feel the heat or sense the smell of the smoke wafting through the air.

Because of my experience with that fire, did that mean that the fire was out? That it wasn't burning?  Did it mean that there was no smoke or heat or light coming from that fire?

No, of course, that's not the truth.  That wasn't the reality.  The fire was there -- in all of its ability and character and power and energy.  I just wasn't experiencing it.  But when I drew close, I saw the flame, I felt the heat, I smelled the smoke. I knew it was there.

* * *

Good advice!
Now, I just need to act on it.

Fingers crossed ... and hugs,
Myra

  1. A good sermon from your Pastor. Trusting God, an unseen God, can sometimes be very difficult. He knows that. He forgives and He helps us, if we ask Him, when our trust and faith falter.

See also Page 15 of my book "Reflections for the soul" where I discuss this more fully.

Great post. Thanx Mevely. God bless.

  2. WOW...You be speaking to me...thanks Myra. smiles

I am not sure hubby would care for a female pastor, but I am a firm believer that the Lord sends us preachers in all shapes, sizes and male or female. Like I told him, "Who cares as long as they are preaching the Word." Him, "It's not Biblical"...of course, there is an argument. And I love the last graphic...thank you Myra. smiles

  4. Yep, sometimes we want to SEE not just be told. LOL
Oh we enjoyed the service also. I just KNEW she was gonna burn that scrap of paper. But I had a hunch she was gonna invite the listeners to burn theirs. Anyway I was working on my coming blog about fire. LOL is that a coincidence AGAIN or what?
Enjoyed the read.... Oh yeah there was fire on my today's blog also. LOL

    1. While living in Florida, I used to attend the Unity Church -- where they had a similar 'Burning Bowl' service every New Years Eve. Loved your video ... and the shout-out!

  5. A great analogy and that last meme prompted a fist pump. Faith in a God we don't 'see' is all that is getting me through my days and nights right now. Love you, dear friend!! xo

  6. I think I would have agreed with Tom on getting the system to begin with, but I do think it's ridiculous that there isn't something you can see to show it's working. Of course the sermon makes perfect sense but no comparison, the I-WAVE definitely is not God lol.

    1. LOL! Nope, not God. Maybe it's my imagination, but when I woke this morning I could swear the air about me felt fresher.

  7. I like the part about drawing closer to the fire and then we feel it, smell it, and know it is working...Yes, the closer we draw to God the more we KNOW He is working in our lives. If we stand afar off and hold ourselves aloof for whatever reason (lack of trust? skepticism? self-righteousness?) then we miss the blessing of feeling the warmth of His love and power to take care of us. This was a great message. Thank you.

  8. Wise words from your pastor, Myra. Yes, just because we can't feel God in the moment, doesn't mean He's not there.
    Blessing, Myra!

  12. I have heard this same message over and over in church my whole life, and i mean over and over and over. it is about Faith in God, not the fire or your thingy that you got... that God is there, even though we can't see or hear him. to me it is not applicale to your new air thingy. for some reason i can't remember what it is called.
and with something physical, there is no way to know. you will have to wait and see if anything changes. i very much doubt it will.. love from your negative friend who trusts NO SALEMANS ever and who will never sit down and shut up.😁😁
