"Just like the ones I used to know ...."
So, my emotions are all over the place today. How about, I start with the good?
Yesterday morning, I had my first taste of Winter in 40 years!
Restless, the dogs got me out at 4-something ... still too dark to see the tiny flakes of SNOW falling. A little later I stood at the front window, absolutely transfixed.
20* and I'm humming Andy Williams' Happy Heart.
Tom and Grace were like, "Please. Curb your enthusiasm."
Giving me the 'stink eye.'
OK. I was a bit deflated when, preparing to leave for my hair appointment, I discovered my car doors were frozen shut. Then half-way down the road, the Check Engine light came on.
It's not much, baby, but it's all we got.
We were cautioned to leave our faucets trickling and open the doors beneath the kitchen sink.
But I'm over here, scratching my head. Having grown up in snow country -- and later living in West Texas -- I'm accustomed to freezing temperatures. But never, ever recall having done that. What's changed? Hopefully, someone smarter than me can explain.

Many of you probably shared my shock and dismay to learn that Terri (Your Friend From Florida) lost her beloved yesterday afternoon from complications of COVID-19.
Not 24 hours earlier, I shared her frustration (that) Joe hadn't yet been released from the hospital: His vitals were all good; his lungs clear.
I'm heartbroken.
I think Pam said it best. (I hope you won't mine me quoting you?)
Dear friends, if you are still blessed to have your mate with you, please hug them a little closer tonight and thank the good Lord for His kindness and grace. And please pray for our dear friend Terri and their sons and families as they grieve the loss of this very dear, sweet man.

There will be a lot more extreme weather events coming because of global warming. I just read an article saying power companies need to adjust to be able to handle them.
ReplyDeleteI’m so sorry about your friend. Andy and I are very aware our time together is limited, and that has nothing to do with COVID. So we appreciate what we have while we still have it.

DeleteEven without Covid Bob and I are really OLD and even if we live to our 90's that is fast approaching. we talk about it a lot, i fret a lot, can't help myself.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of Terry's loss and my condolences to her and family and to you and her blog friends. I was raised in Savannah and KY and we always turn the faucets to drip when a freeze was coming. living here in Florida we did not have to, but in 1990, a freeze came for one night, we did not leave anything dripping. Next day the timer turned the pool pump on and Pow the filter exploded. Ice expanded and cracked it in two pieces. not sure why but think moving water doesn't freeze as quickly as still water. hope you dripped them.. also hope the car is ok and was just shivering when it ask you to check your engine light. the one on my Kia has been on and off for 2 years. nothing has happened. it is a stupid computer and all they do is reset the light and charge a fortune, it can't tell what is wrong and they hook up to a computer and ALwaYS find something. per auto mechanic hubby. that said I will not drive it over the skyway�� PS love your selfie, is that in a mirror?
Interesting! Yes, we've had our faucets dripping for two nights now. Yes, to the selfie. 'Just discovered FaceApp and I'm having a ball.
DeleteThank you for sharing that Myra. I am still reeling from this shock and my heart is really saddened for Terri. He was such a sweet sweet man. We just never know, do we? Thank the Lord they are strong believers and she can have that peace that passes all understanding, knowing that her hubby is safe in the arms of Jesus today. That is our one great hope and comfort. On the other note, I am sorry you got "frozen"...that is no fun. Snow is supposed to be fun! (that was for kids, apparently, not adults, although I have had fun with sun in the past too). Take care and stay warm and hug your honey often.

Nothing official yet; Tom's truck is our usual mode of transportation. Since the Camry was recently serviced, I suspect it's just a glitch.
DeleteI, too, am shocked beyond belief at Joe's sudden passing, Myra. My tears were flowing early this morning and really haven't let up as dear Rush Limbaugh passed away today. So much loss, so much grief, so many prayers needed for peace and comfort.

ReplyDeleteLeaving the faucets trickling and the cabinet doors open help keep the pipes from freezing. The same thing that happened to Sandra happened to me with the pool pump during a freeze. I also tend to agree with her on the check engine light. See if it just goes off after this weather passes.

That's so crazy about the pool pump. What an unpleasant experience! Yep on the check engine light -- Google has a host of possible scenarios, none of which involve an exploding engine. LOL.

ReplyDeleteI could be wrong about the pipes but I think our homes are not as insulated as homes in parts of the country that regularly see bitter cold temps. I know our roofs are not made to withstand the weight of a heavy snow like houses up north. With newer homes, they use a type of pipe (pex) that is not supposed to burst. They can still freeze but it expands rather than bursts. I think that is what our house has.

DeleteI honestly am in shock over the weather. So sad for so many people. My poor MIL had to stay in bed all bundled up. She's 93. Her son couldn't even drive over to pick her up. I haven't followed Terri in several years. So sorry for her loss.
