Did anyone happen to catch the Today show yesterday morning?
If so, you heard Hoda-and-friends discussing the merits of texting before calling someone. You know, to see if this is a good time to chat.
Apparently, this is a thing. Vogue.

Personally, I love the idea. I'm not fond of talking on the phone to begin with! Even if I'm not doing anything more pressing than watching an episode of Chicago Med or surfing FB, a call from out of the blue can seem, well, intrusive.
My friend Debbie and I've enjoyed a schedule for years now: We chat the first day of each month at 2 o'clock. Son phones on Sunday afternoon.
That's not to say I can't call them on days in between. But if they're anything like me, the first words out of their mouth might be, "What's wrong?"

the phone rang at 7 pm, I answered because it was my son in TN. He started out with Mom, I know I am not supposed to call after 6:30 but I had to tell you I got a job... my friends know I only talk between the hours of 7 am to 4 pm i do answer Emergecny calls. When I want to talk to Jackie or Marge, i send a text that says, can you talk now? call me. If you can't, talk later.
ReplyDeleteI love to read and if I am in a page turner, and the phone rings I don't want to talk. the caller says whatcha doing? I say reading. she says oh good, you can talk, and I know I am in for over an hour... boo hoo
Wow. You were ahead of the MSM before they put on their etiquette cap! Not so sure I'd be as accommodating to that last caller.

ReplyDeleteWe don't like to answer the phone after 9:00 pm, but we do in case of an emergency. During the day we hate telemarketer calls.
Ya. Anymore I won't answer the phone if I don't recognize the number. Important? They'll leave a voice mail.
DeleteIf you call after 9 pm you will always get, "What's wrong?" I have no problem with folks just dropping by (now, most folks know NOT to drop by until after 9 am-the only exception was always my husbands late uncle who knew I was up at 4am and always stopped by then for coffee, not an issue--and I fondly do miss him).---I have no problems with no call etc. I try to be nice and call before visiting, but alias, I do forget and just drop by.

DeletePersonally, Myra, I don't like talking on the phone either, unless it's talking to my mom or Face Time with the kids. It's so much easier to text!

DeleteI always text before calling, just seems the right thing to do these days, and I sure appreciate it when people text me first before calling too. I don't really like talking on the phone either, I usually just text.
ReplyDeleteI also never answer my phone unless I know the number and I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone.
I think ours would be a far better world if more people did that, too!
DeleteI too don't like talking on the phone. I like the idea of texting to make sure someone is available to talk or wants to talk before you call them. Remember the "good old days" when you wouldn't even know who was calling when they called? How far we have come :)

DeleteIt seems I get more texts than phone calls these days, but I don't mind talking. So much easier for me than texting. I can depend on a phone call from some of mine regularly, but sometimes they are out of the blue and that can be upsetting. Still I love to hear their voice Thankfully, .More good news than not comes my way.

DeleteMy family and most friends know I am not fond of phone talking so my sister, Patti, usually texts to see if I have time to talk (well, listen). So that is nice. I didn't know it was a thing though!! Interesting! I don't watch the Today show or any talk or news shows anymore. They usually just get me riled up. LOL
ReplyDeleteNormally I don't either, Terri. And it's increasingly hard to see Savannah Guthrie up there. That's usually the time I excuse myself from the room. Still, I've come to love Hoda and Jenna Bush Hager.

DeleteI never was a phone talker, but I did take care of business on the phone, NOW i must rely on my sweetheart to take care of that. Just a few minutes ago I got a call. It was from a former neighbor just wanting to chat, he talked with Sherry mostly.

DeleteI usually text my friends and co-workers first. I talk to my sister in Texas every morning while driving to work. The longer I live the less I like to talk on the phone! I work with mostly young adults and they all text so I am quite proficient with my texting.
ReplyDeleteSOmetime my friend Karen will call after I text her. But she is straight forward. SHe will say things like " I have to pee so goodbye." HaHaHa or she will say "We are taking our dog to a new park. I will share details later." She always has funny park stories like the lady who told her and Chris her hubby to stop. Her little dog would attack. SHe said they tried hard not to laugh but they were thinking, our dog is a lab, she will eat your dog for a snack!" HaHaHa - people. SHe also use to smoke along with Chri and they lived next door to a bishop from the LDS church. SHe said they loved blowing smoke his way cause he was too nosey. HaHa. I guess I am very much like her. We are rebels having attended CAtholic school for so long. But those are all the cool people I know. They never talk behind your back or backstab you. I love it.
