I'm thinking .....
We're gonna bite the bullet and invest in an I-Wave air purifying device. At yesterday's semi-annual check-up, Veronica (our favorite HVAC tech) was explaining the benefits. I'm over here thinking, "Ya da dah da dah." But when she got to the part about it killing not only cold and flu viruses - but COVID, too - I was ready to sign.
Gotta admit, Tom and I aren't the best examples of preventive care. But given his COPD and increased use on the Stiolto (inhaler), I'm thinking there's no time like the present.
I'm thankful ....
That Terri (Your Friend From Florida) happened to mention her new Blue Diamond cookware. Since our Copper Chef skillet sticks like crazy, replacing it was an investment in mental health. The food goes slip-sliding away ... no mess!
Speaking of which .....
I've discovered how easy it is to make burgers in the Instant Pot! Place the meat atop one square of aluminum foil, and top with a second, taking care not to seal the edges. Place on a trivet, add 1/2 cup of water and steam for 15 min (give or take) for an 8 oz. burger. The grease simply runs off into the water!
Tom was concerned they wouldn't brown, but look!

I just discovered the U.S. Postal Service has this neat feature -- Informed Delivery -- where you can see what's coming, and when!
Every day I get one of these e-mails, telling me what's being delivered:

Getting my C-19 vaccine!
I'm thinking my friend has an 'in' to the Governor's office. Even before the 5 o'clock news, Brenda put a link on her FB page regarding the next phase of those eligible.
Trying to get registered felt lots like old radio contests --trying to be the 9th caller. Furiously typing my name and number on an available time slot, I'd get "No Longer Available. Try Again." Grrrr. Finally, I secured something on March 11, and did a little happy dance in my head.
Anyone remember getting their polio vaccine in a sugar cube?

I remember standing in line with my family, in the school's cafeteria, to DRINK our polio vaccine. It was in a little white cup (like we get our pills in the hospital) and we had to drink it. A sugar cube would have been more pleasant, I think. I love my Blue Diamond skillet and will be picking up a new piece here and there to replace my old pans. I do use the skillet the most. Glad you like it!! I need to check out that filter for the HVAC. Thanks for the tip! xo

ReplyDeleteAs for vaccines, I've never had one in my entire life and never plan to. My parents read horrible things about risks due to the polio virus, so they forfeited the idea when I was a kid.
Many of my relatives faithfully got flu shots - - and they inevitably got the flu.
I've never heard of Informed Delivery.
I'm hopelessly uninformed....

DeleteI have to admit, greasy burgers -- or those grilled outside -- do taste better. Wow. I never knew anyone who caught the flu after having received the vaccine. That's disappointing!
DeleteWow, how cool to cook the hamburger in the Instapot! Looks delicious! That is a neat feature about seeing what is coming in the mail. Doubly good in case you are expecting something and you want to make sure you are home to avoid someone stealing from your mail box but maybe that doesn't happen in Alabama :) Cool with the imprint of the leaf and the thought of that. Good thing to spend more time out doors I think! Yea that you signed up for the vaccine! It will be March 11th before you know it!

DeleteMan, I have got to learn how to use my Insta Pot. I just got it for Christmas and have not used it yet. That air purifier sounds like a good idea with Tom's issues. We have an air cleaner, nothing that fancy, but I think it does help with how congested we feel in the morning. I don't remember the sugar cubes, but I think I remember getting lined up in school for shots in second grade and I can't imagine what it would have been for other than polio. I do remember having to take flouride tablets in school for a couple of years.

That's funny! I like the Informed Delivery only because we check the mail maybe once a week. So far, the only thing I've seen worth gathering is the water bill.
DeleteAlways something so interesting and informative here. The air purifier sounds like a good idea. So does the blue diamond cookware. I have an enamel coated skillet that works pretty well too, but I still love my old Revere Ware pots and pans that my mother used. I have several of her pans and added some of my own. Stainless steel with copper bottoms..yes, things do stick to the skillet, but not as bad as you'd think. The pots that I have must be over 60 years old and they are still going strong! I love the leaf imprint story...wonderful thoughts there...thank you for sharing that. I do remember getting the polio vaccine, but for the life of me I don't remember if it is was a sugar cube or a liquid. It wasn't a shot? No, that was the smallpox vaccine, in the arm. I remember that one, and the scab afterwards, and the little scar with dots around in a circle. I guess they don't do it that way anymore. Well, maybe that's a good thing. Praying your vaccination goes well. We are still waiting to sign up. Our Dr. said he hopes to have them in his office soon, so we will wait for that and no lines. Have a wonderful Sunday. Oh, yes, we use the postal feature. It is a great tool especially when you are watching for something to come. Bye bye for now.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I hadn't thought about my mother's Revere Ware in years and years. What a great testimony! I've no idea why, but my parents opted to have my smallpox vaccine done on my hip. In retrospect, I wonder if others ever saw my bare arms and presumed my parents were anti-vax? Ha!

ReplyDeleteI recently opened a USPS account for purchasing stamps at the office ... but never heard of Informed Mail.
Sigh. Both at work and at our neighborhood 'group' mailboxes, I'm accustomed to mis-delivered mail. Aside from boycotting the PO (*smile*) I don't know how of if this will ever be resolved. Do carriers just not care, anymore? Sad.
I love it and it works well.
I would do more research before buying the I wave, any one can SAY it kills the virus, everyone is using that as a marketing tools. remember, trust no one with out verifying.
I wish they would give us something like you signed up on... FL is one of 2 hardest hit states and we have millions waiting for the vaccine. so far we have found no way to get one, we are on a lottery list, they pick 500 names every 5 days. my friend signed up for Sarasota county and she is 164,321 on the list. arrhhh..
so glad you have your appointment. bob and i have discussed the sugar cube thing over and over and also the first shot before we got the sugar cube was given with a gun. we all stood in a line and they pressed a gun against our shoulder, zap zap zap and the line was done.
Oh m'gosh, I've NO recollection of having written that! 😒 Ya, we'll definitely be doing our homework before writing a check.

Well, we've been doing our due diligence for sure! Perhaps the best testimony's come from Victoria, herself, who's 3 y/o daughter is immuno-compromised and has shown marked improvement since they had theirs installed.

DeleteAs for us, we will NOT be getting the vaccine; no thank you. This vaccine is a MRNA type and no one knows how that will play out in the long run. I suppose I will be on the terrorist watch list sooner than later for being anti vaxer anyways, lol.
ReplyDeleteAs for the air purifier, I would be a little weary especially when someone tells me it can kill this or that...my mil almost got into a scam not long ago...we stopped it. Way to many scams going on right now. JUST MY THOUGHTS.

DeleteI love it when I see recommendations of others and am glad they share new things on the market. I would never have gotten an air fryer if I'd net seen the commendations of others. I still need to get an instant and an air purifier. But the good Lorid willing they too will come. I'm thankful for the ferocity of my children who often supply what I need. They always eem eager to get what I want. What they say about what comes around goes around really is true. They had my love and support when they needed it and now I'm being repaid.

DeleteI have two Hepa air purifiers in my home and they are wonderful to clean the air. The one I can see right now is a Levoit. I have had mine two years and when there were terrible fires nearby and we couldn't go outside or open windows because of thick smoke for 10 days they very much made our indoor air breathable. Mine cost about $200 each, a great investment in clean air. So you are wise to buy one I think.
