in the slow lane.
..... where I don't know what to wear.
Feeling so thankful we don't need a new car!
When Tom discovered my battery had gone kaput, he ran to Auto Zone and installed a new one -- hoping the 'check engine light' would go away.
Nope. I'd been Googling all the possible reasons and (of course) going to worst-case scenarios. Poor thing has 339,955 miles on its ticker.
I could have hugged the mechanic who (correctly) diagnosed a couple minor thingies and sent us on our way for a little more than $200.
💜
So, Tom turned 79 years young yesterday. Yeay!
I don't know if it's a 'man thing' or what. But every year I get to asking Tom, "What would you like?" "Where should we go?"
Nada. "I don't need anything." (Um, that's not what I asked.)
I felt like sacrilege, but okay. That's what he got.
See, the couch on which he lives is pretty disgusting; we've begun looking for a new one. But everything's back-ordered 14 weeks!
I thought he was ready to get a fire-pit, but now he wants to wait until the deck comes down and a new patio gets poured. (Whole 'nother story ...)
He did ask that I make him a 'real' German Chocolate cake. My middle name's not Betty Crocker, and yes. I'm the one who once said, "a kitchen's the most useless room in the house." But okay. I can read instructions.
So Thursday morning I lined up the sugar, flour, cocoa, etc., on an old beach towel. Then promptly knocked over the flour onto the floor. (A dictionary word or several may have been uttered.)
[Just an FYI to the husbands: If your wife's not whistling a happy tune, it's generally not a good idea to say things like, "Well, I'd have used wax paper to coat the pan." Or, "That icing's not as creamy as I remember." "But that's OK, you're cooking."]
All's well. I'm not fond of chocolate, but he loves it and was even bragging on me to his daughter.
🎂
Not so entertaining, but we saw the eye doctor yesterday and scheduled Tom's cataract surgery for mid-April.
I'd bought some nice rib-eyes that he grilled and enjoyed with asparagus and sauteed mushrooms. It's true. The fastest way to our hearts is probably through our stomachs!
What's yours?
😍
More later!
Thank you for visiting me!
Hugs, Myra

Best wishes to Tom on his birthday. Wishing many more happy ones to you both with your family.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you always my friends.
Thank you so much, Victor. I never tire of hearing these words!
DeleteHoly Cannoli Myra, what kind of car do you have that's still going with that kind of mileage on it?! That's amazing. A big happy birthday to Tom! you always crack me up with your cooking stories. I'm so glad Tom enjoyed his cake :)
ReplyDeleteOMW, I'm so embarrassed! That SHOULD have read, 239,955. She's an '05 Toyota Camry -- we've an arrangement: We take good care of her and (for the most part) she obliges us.
DeleteHappy Birthday to Tom!!
ReplyDeleteI love the 3 candles and what they stand for!
My husband had cataract surgery and it went great.
I'm no Betty Crocker either.
I use a German chocolate cake mix and make my
own icing.

Thanks, Gloria! Aren't advances in eye care amazing?!
DeleteThat's great news on your car. Happy Birthday to Tom! The cake looks great and the meal sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteHappy Birthday to Tom, Mr D will be 79 in June! The cake looks great to me, German Chocolate is sooo good. WoW, that was good news on the car, new cars are so expensive. I have never heard the idea of using 3 candles, future, present and past, I love it and Mr D will have 3 candles on his cake too. After all, 79 candles might start a bonfire. :)
ReplyDelete🤣 ... I can't imagine! Once I set my fake fingernail on fire trying to light a bunch of birthday candles.
DeleteBahahaha! I do love your cooking stories! The finished product looks good, though. Happy birthday to Tom! That weather meme is hilarious. Good news about the car. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? The weather folks at WSFA are a riot.
DeleteGood thing the folks in Alabama are friendly and the food's so good. Otherwise ....
This was FUN, thanks for the smiles. Loved the patty Cake shot. GREAT. Alsoe the three candles. So Tom is trying to catch up. He has a good start.
ReplyDeleteAnt there are times Birthdays sould be a big deal, EVERY YEAR!!!
Love you lady and this was a fun visit.
Thanks
Sherry & jacl
Big deal, indeed! I'm gonna tell Tom you said that. Love y'all right back!
Deletefirst things first.. that is a really good photo of Tom and the cake. Happy Birthday, Tom, looking good!
ReplyDeleteenjoyed every word of your post. carefully read the AL weather report, thanks for the chuckles. our FL weather thinks it is May not Feb, wake up to 70 go to 87, turn on AC. in the past AC started in May to November. not now. Bob loves German Chooclate, on his birthday i went to Publix bakery and they sell giant single slices in container. I bought that and he loved it. no patting needed.
the good news for us is i am just like Bob. Birthdays are nothing but a day to eat a burger at Culvers.. for that i am thankful. if i ask him what he wants for anything he never wants anything. i am with Stacy bring on more cooking stories...
Aw, thanks! I think so, too. Hey, I'm all about letting the pros (Publix) do the heavy lifting. I suspect Tom just appreciated my effort. We tease.
DeleteThis was fun. Happy Birthday to Tom! The cake looks great! I love the patty-cake photo. I baked a devil's food cake last week for my hubby's b.d., but it was in a 13 x 9 pan. But then I also baked a two layer vanilla cake with chocolate frosting for a friend's birthday, and then we traveled with it, and the top layer slid off, so when we got to the party, I had to pull it all back together again. It didn't look too pretty but it still tasted good. Hey, what kind of car do you have that has that many miles and keeps on ticking? Amazing! And yes, the weather is crazy this time of year, even here in Florida. Mornings are cool, but it gets up to 80 in the afternoon. Foggy as pea soup this morning. It seems as though we are skipping spring and heading into summer already, and I don't like that. I want spring first like normal people. LOL. Have a blessed day my friend. This was a fun start.
ReplyDeleteOh no(!!!) on the cake mishap. I'd have probably been ROFLMAO. Making the "L" sign on my forehead about the mileage typo. That should have read 239,955 ... but it being a Camry, maybe that's a possibility!?
DeleteI think the cake looks great, and I'm so glad there wasn't much wrong with your car, Myra. Happy Birthday, Tom!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Thank you, Martha! Wishing you and Danny a blessed Sunday!
DeleteHappy Birthday Tom! Hey, food is always a way to a persons heart, LOL.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day, friend...oh Me and Tom would get along just fine, I am just like him, "Don't need nothing." LOL---and since my husband had 5 other siblings, his birthday never got celebrated and he is just like you, smiles.
Oh, that's funny. You'll have to let me know when it's his birthday, OK?
DeleteHPPY BIERHSy ro yole Rom~ and congrats on fulfilling his birthday wish with a cake. It does look wonderful! Glad your car was fixed and you can still use it without any outstanding fees due. That is a blessing. Hope you always make birthdays specia, they are worth celebrating !
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam! Yes, ALL birthdays deserve celebrating.
DeleteOpps, sorry, That should read Happy Birthday to your Tom. Sorry for the typos. The fingers stiff this morning.
ReplyDelete😍
DeleteMyra, when I drove from Texas to TN my "check engine light" was on the whole while.
ReplyDeleteI checked the car MANY times and there was nothing wrong. The light stayed on for nearly a year - - then mysteriously went out.
No problems so far.
Strange....
Very strange! And it's never come back? I'd have been a nervous wreck all the way.
DeleteI'm impressed that you made the cake!! I was shocked at how many miles are on your car - that is pretty amazing!!!! Happy birthday to your hubby! My mother-in-law places 3 candles on the cakes for the men - same as yours. She places 16 on the girls because we are always "sweet sixteen." I think that is pretty cute, too!
ReplyDeleteSweet sixteen ... I love that idea!
DeleteYour cake looks yummy and you did a terrific job. Happy Happy BIrthday to Tom again. I Know I Left a comment at social media. I am having some blogging woes but at least was able to put words up at one blog and had previously created my other post with photos included. ALways soemthing in tech land. LOved hearing your words. I will be back again to catch up. I am exhausted from a day of cleaning. Not as quick as I once was. SO I take it sloooow. Love the candle idea. Very unqiue idea. Thanks to you and to MA. Have a super week.
ReplyDeleteHi Myra, thank you for the comment you left on Victor's blog.
