Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my Gallery of Shame. Funny to look back at my yearbooks and realize not every classmate looked like a 'Breck girl.' In fact, (slaps forehead) some of the most popular girls weren't even pretty in the traditional sense. You'd think it wouldn't have taken me so long to figure what counts?!
Oh well. Moving right along --

While indoors ...
I've begun Autumn-izing, with a little help from Dollar Tree confetti and Vanilla potpourri.
So excited to spot these stoneware plates for only $1 each!
I'm going back tomorrow for another 3-4. You know, just in case.
A reason to laugh ...
at myself!
We've lived here what, 3-1/2 years now?
But only a few days ago I discovered something neat:
When standing at the kitchen sink, I can see who's at the front door simply by looking in the corner mirror!
..... v. sneaking down the back hallway (behind me to the left) into the dining room and peeking to make sure it's not Jack the Ripper.
Heck, I've always been easily entertained!
And finally,
A reason to give Thanks ...
So we recently had a teleconference with Tom's new pulmonologist. Wow. After gathering a detailed history she said, "I'm not going to tell you, you have to stop smoking." (Me paraphrasing:) "At 78 years old, you've survived two cancers and now you're dealing with hearing loss and failing eyesight. It's probably one of the few pleasures you have left." (O.M.G.!)
Dr. Shah was on the line with us for nearly an hour and a half, relating medical explanations in 'normal people speak' ... as well as behavior modification tips to put the pipe down. Granted, she's not Board Certified. I'm not exactly sure what that means for us, exactly. She's able to order Tom's rescue inhaler and make referrals. Already, she's arranged for him to be seen by an oncologist here in Montgomery for a routine follow-up. We couldn't be happier!

ReplyDeleteWhenever I do not know the name of a plant or tree I make one up. It should sound Latin so people think you're an expert. Your tree is Spookipus Limbus Naturalis. The flowers are Reddus Verticalis.

DeleteWow... never thought I would hear of a doctor saying to keep on smoking. A doctor started Joe smoking but that was back in the 50s! Glad you found someone you are both comfortable with for health issues and prescriptions! Love ya!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Whaaat? -- you say it was a doctor to started Joe smoking? Years ago I knew an MD who smoked and would say, "Do as I say, not as I do."

I think Tom's pulmonologist is great and I don't think she needs to do the "extra" step. She seems genuine and interested in her patients and amazing with how long she spent with the two of you! That in itself is noteworthy!
I like those plates!! Very fallish! Those are creepy looking trees but I'm clueless on the name of them. Hopefully someone else can help you :)

DeleteLove those pretty flowers on Pastor Janet's lot and no idea on the trees. I love that you've discovered a way to see who is at the door. I never answer the door unless I'm expecting someone, not like we live in a friendly little neighborhood, but of course I always want to peek out to see who it is anyway lol. I'm so glad the two of you are happy with the pulmonologist although shocked that she's actually human enough to not insist he quit smoking - you've found a rare one indeed! Enjoy your Sunday evening :)
ReplyDeleteEtched or not, that large pane of glass in the front door used to bother me. Fortunately in the den we can't be seen. Plus Tom's always said our dogs can 'hear a mouse pee on a ball of cotton' ... they're great alarms. :)

DeleteI have to say, i feel the same way the doc does, like with Bob at 84, and heart problems and knees gone and can't hardly walk, why bother about eating cookies or cake. so you are borderline diebetic, has been for 12 years, still the same borderline... i have always heard a pipe is not as bad as cigarettes but have no clue if its true.
ReplyDeleteI am just like you, easily entertaining myself. when bob yells down the hall, Come see this, something on TV, when i step in the hall i can see what he sees in the framed photo behind the sofa, almost as good as what he sees. he will say you missed it, even though i say i saw it and mind you i did not want to see it, he backs it up to show me... don't know what the tree is, looks similar to our strangler figs but not exactly.. when i look at old photos i think, why did i not see i looked as good as most and better than some and thought i was the ugly duckling that never changed to a swan
Quality v. quantity, right? After my father's heart attack my mother even remarked, "I don't think your dad would have wanted to live if he had to give up his cigars and the food he loved."

DeleteI love the dollar store. It is filled with treasure and I love to visit them to see what they have new. You got some treasures there for sure. I'll have to go soon. Not been in awhile. Fall is such fun for decorating. Hope all goes well with the new doctor recommended. More tests seem to be in the offing. Take care and have w wonderful week!

DeleteThose are funny looking trees, but have no idea what kind they are. In northern Mn. the leaves are trying to hang onto their brilliant colors. But the heavy hard rain at times and wind is slowly blowing the colors to the ground. We had a guest speaker yesterday who gave us a great sermon and then our daughter inviting he and his wife home for lunch. Great time with these dear saints of God, encouraging stories as they are older then Ace and I by a few years. This was a lovely post, enjoyed reading it.

DeleteI am visiting backward. As usual. Good news makes me smile. I like when people who know health care listen. Also when they care. I like how you can see the front door. I am always checking because the pups bark and I want to make sure no one is out there because sometime the mail carrier does not ring the bell when leaving a package on the ground. You always bring smiles and your plates are so cute. Rebekah is like a prison warden. diann from Michigan got there early. They had pumpkin plates, really pretty too.
