Hodgepodge #387

Hello ... and Happy Fall, y'all!

As ever, thanks to our hostess, Joyce, for 387 amazing episodes!  I've a particular fondness for that number, it being my parent's P.O. Box number for 30 years ... and my former e-mail alias.  :)

Okay, then. Let's play!

* * *

What's something you love about this season?

In no particular order .....

Chilly nights, fire pits, golden aspen, nutmeg candles, oversize fleece hoodies, chile and cornbread, flannel leggings, SEC football, cinnamon sticks, butternut squash bisque ... and Christmas shopping!

... and something you don't?

That Fall doesn't last long enough!  That and pumpkin spice.

When you think of the colors of fall, which one is your favorite?

Burnt orange

Is there somewhere you could easily day trip to see the leaves in all their glory?  Will you?

Probably in the northeastern part of the state, or southern Tennessee. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.  I've little faith in taking my old Camry too far, and Tom's eyesight is quickly becoming problematic.

What's one thing you've let 'fall' by the wayside during this season of staying home and staying away?

Regular (outdoor) exercise

If you're wearing a sweater is it most likely a cardigan, crew neck, v-neck or zip-up hoodie?

Cowl-neck!

What's your secret to dealing with change?

I've no secret ... and don't care for it at all.
But! I stopped tilting at windmills years ago. Acceptance, learning to adapt is a bitter pill -- but it's far better to focus on my blessings.

Insert your own random thought here.

Does anyone else struggle with low back pain, especially when it thwarts your ability to sleep?

You might employ something called the McKenzie Night Roll -- or, like one of my Bible study pals mentioned:
"Roll an old beach towel about 4-5" wide, then wrap around your waist, tying in front."

So, I tried that last night before bed and darn if it didn't help.  So grateful to this group of warm and sometimes-whacky ladies.

That's what friends are for!

Hugs,
Myra

  1. Like you, Myra, we won't be traveling this fall, but will simply enjoy the leaf change from the comfort of our deck. Sorry you are having lower back pain, but happy to know that your friend's suggestion worked so well for you! Sweaters? You'll catch me in pull-overs. :)
    Blessings!

    1. This season gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, "There's no place like home!" Blessings to you, as well.

  2. We don't travel fat either, mostly because lack of funds to do so...usually we just drive the 20-30 miles to Keuka Lake...anyways...I always enjoy your answers, Myra. Have a beautiful day, friend.

  3. Wow, I'm going to try that with the towel "trick". I'll let you know if it works; glad it did for you! Love the picture of you in the sweater! Rent a car if you want to get out of town for a bit. Can you drive far distances yourself?

    1. Thanks, Betty! I've thought about a rental car; just need to check with my insurance company to see if I'm covered. Hate how they strong-arm you to buy their protection plans.

  4. Fall is definitely the season of change. The hardest thing is the lack of daylight hours for me. When it gets dark I want to go to bed. I could hibernate all winter. Never heard of that back pain wrap before, but will remember this for the next time the lower back gives out. I really do love the color of orange for the fall. Lots of pumpkins are appearing every where right now and we need the cheery color. Hope you have a great week!

    1. Why yes, pumpkins do look cheery! :) Hibernation's not a bad thing at all ... cozy-up!

  5. I like your association with THAT NUMBER! Thirty years, wow staying one place that long, but I do know people kin who had the same address for most of their lives, it just wasn't meant to be for us.
Burnt Orange also my favorite. When In NC we used to love to drive to the Mts for their fall beauty. But here in Florida, as you know well, fall means a respite from heat. LOL.

    1. Yay for the 'burnt orange' fans! Imagine NC is gorgeous this time of year. But having lived in Florida and Arizona for so long, I still get excited about the small changes here.

  6. I love burnt orange and red Myra!
I love, love, love fall too!

  7. You need a bit of support on that part of your back, and the rolled beach towel, does the trick! Excellent!

I can't be comfortable on my back, for too long, and roll over on my side. This is my preferred sleeping style. :-)

Luckily, we are in the NE of the US so we get to experience the _whole_ Leaf Turning Season, right at home. :-)))))

For most change, "go with the flow."

For some "Make This Change!!!!" I dig my heels in and will not budge!!!!! There are certain things, which do not allow for Change, no matter how loud the voices, which demand it.

  9. I just love it when a simple remedy works! My sister hangs over the couch back at her middle letting the front half of her body hang over and her legs dangle starting at 30 seconds and working up to a minute over time. It's helped her. Look at your cute self in that cowl-neck. Happy Fall to you!

  13. I enjoyed your good answers here, Mevely. Sadly this year has seen a lot of changes and we've all had to learn to adapt somehow. Let us hope and pray for better times ahead.

God bless you and yours always.

  15. Enjoyed your answers. Fall is my favorite season, even in Florida! No, it isn't as pretty as everywhere else, but it lasts so much longer here! That idea with the rolled up towel for the back sounds good. I may try that some night when I just can't get comfortable. Have a blessed and beautiful autumn! "It's only just begun"!

    1. Yes! I well remember how great it felt when the oppressive humidity took leave. (I used to live in the Tampa/St. Pete metro.) The best is yet to come!

  16. I am glad to know I am not alone in my dislike of everything pumpkin! Interesting about the towel rolled up for your back. I still have some pain (sporadic now) with my stenosis but don't think the towel trick would help that. We both chose burnt orange!! Happy hump day!

    1. LOL on the pumpkin ... let's give ours to Stacy! Chiropractors won't touch me on account of my osteoporosis, so I'm game for whatever works. HAPPY HD to you and Joe!

  17. It is good to find a fellow Fall lover! And cowl neck sweater wearer. I agree completely that the only negative side of Fall is that it doesn't last all year. But then, I'd miss my 2nd favorite season, winter.

    1. Yesssss! I was actually torn between my favorite Fall v. Winter. Unfort, as wonderful as the South is, it can't compare to my childhood Winters in the Rockies.

  18. Fall is my favorite season too. Sunday night we'll probably have a picnic on the land to see how much the colors have changed. I love the picture of you in the sweater. 🙂
