Thankful ...
... for a super visit with son, DIL and her mom yesterday!
Tom bought a ton of ribs, brisket and potato salad and we all dug in like starving dogs.
I'd never tried making caprese before -- and they'd never had it. But despite the platter looking like a toddler had assembled it, everyone seemed to enjoy.
While the weather's still warm, I'm going to buy more fixings and try to perfect my 'art' ... ha!
Pondering ...
... that blog-hopping -- my favorite -- seems a lot like speed dating. (Nope, I never did that! But didn't it lend itself to some great comedy skits?)
Anyway! Having blogged since '08, I've been blessed to realize some incredible, enduring friendships. Others? Several infatuations burned brightly, but later fizzled like a spent sparkler. Perhaps somebody hurt somebody else's feelings ... or tread on their beliefs? Or did they simply conclude we've too little in common? "It's not you, it's me."
Not sure if there's a point to be made; just something on my mind. So I wanted to lift a sincere thank you to the 'Keepers'!
Holy Moly!
Since the onset of this pandemic I've begun the habit of taking my temp each day.
So, the other day I found myself listening to a caller going on-and-on about something. Remembering I'd forgotten to take my temp, I grabbed the el-cheapo digital thermometer and popped it in my mouth, determined not to speak for 30 seconds.
However, it soon began making this angry beeping sound. The little window read: 103.5!
Never mind that until that moment, I felt perfectly fine. Yep, I freaked a bit. Thankfully, Tom had a spare in his bathroom which read normal... so I decided I probably wasn't dying.
Our pest-control tech admitted, when this whole thing began, he was so nervous he'd begun taking his temp 5-6 times a day. We chuckled, but the fear's real. How about you ... do you self-monitor?
Wondering ...
... do you ever see someone on TV and just feel a chemistry? Like, "How down to earth and nice they seem. I'd really like to spend time with them!"
Like Kelly Clarkson .. or Hoda Kotb.
I think my award for the most R.E.F.R.E.S.H.I.N.G. goes to Hoda's co-host, Jenna Bush Hager.
Only someone with not an ounce of ego would omit the fact her parents house = the White House!
Looking forward ...
... to arriving at a mutually-agreeable plan to celebrate our 16th anniversary next week. Tom's still not entirely comfortable dining out, and travel's out of the question. Suggestions are certainly welcomed!
'Hope y'all have a great new week ... stay safe!
Hugs,
Myra

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your 16th anniversary. Wishing you both many more years of happiness, good health and whatever else you wish. I tend to agree about the not eating out. Perhaps you could phone-in for a delivery something you both like - no cooking for you to do that day. It would be nice to have the family visiting too. I'll celebrate on your behalf with a Guinness.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes always, Mevely. God bless.
Thank you, Victor! I really like the idea of ordering in. Bottom's up!
DeleteWishing you a very Happy Anniversary! Wishing you many more of happy years, my friend. I would call out for delivery, maybe a pizza? smiles
ReplyDeleteAs for friendships that blossom or not, I have had that happen and its ok. However, let me say, I think we will be friends into eternity! (grinning--try getting rid of me, LOLOLOL BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)--my husband, "Yeah, she grows on you like a fungus." What does he know? LOLOLOL
Yummmmm! I've not had a pizza in forever. From here to eternity, you n' me ... woot!
DeleteYour Caprese salad looks great! We love it and yours is prettier than mine usually are! Jenna's story is lovely! I've never watched that show but may have to tune in now. Happy anniversary! Order in something nice and light some candles. I don't self-monitor. My temp gets taken lately more often than ever before. If I felt bad, I would get the thermometer, though. Have a good week, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteOops! I should quick edit to note, that image of the caprese I stole from the internet. I hope you will check out Hoda & Jenna and let me know what you think... I think it airs right after the Today Show.
DeleteI'm so glad you had a nice visit with family yesterday. Your caprese platter looks fantastic! (don't forget to try it with peaches while you are experimenting :)
ReplyDeleteI love blog hopping but things sure are different these days. In the old days I never remember friendships fizzling out, but people would just disappear sometimes. I so appreciate those, like you, who have stuck with me when I was the one who pulled the disappearing act. These days I've noticed only a handful of blogs I visit bother to visit back. You would think with blogging being such a dying art that people would enjoy new friends but I guess not. Oh well, the good ones do come and stick around at least :)
I don't self monitor, I figure if I'm sick I'll know it.
I rarely watch TV but I watched The Voice for a few years and loved Kelly Clarkson, I could definitely hang out with her and maybe a few others from that show as well.
Happy early anniversary! My husband an I celebrated our anniversary this year with a special dinner at home - steak, lobster, twice baked potatoes, asparagus with hollandaise, champagne and cheesecake for dessert. What else can we really do these days?
Now that I've written a blog post in your comment section I should go lol. Have a fantastic week! :)
Thanks, dear lady ... but I kiped that pix from the internet. :) We love the Voice, too. Your anniversary dinner - especially with the asparagus - sounds wonderful!
DeleteYou had all that delicious food and forgot to ask me over!
ReplyDelete😃 Hope you'll accept a rain check!
DeleteJust to let you know I'm still here and will return to blogging soon....(I hope).
ReplyDeleteI'm counting on it, Jon. Been missing you!
DeleteI never heard of a caprese, there are many foods and dishes I never heard of. But it is pretty and I blew it up and I would love everything on the tray.
ReplyDeleteComing up on 16th SWEET. Congratulations in this time is close to a miracle. BUT then I think you guys are a great match. Tom doesn't say much but I would love to hear the sax. Honestly WE had hoped to be in the area, but I got scared (mechanically) and we are heading straight home.
JJ's birthday is Monday and we hope to find a place to celebrate in Arkansas.
Love you lady and knowing you on the internet has been the best.
Sherry, jack & JJ in Amarillo, TX
Aw thanks! FIRST, a very Happy Birthday to your handsome namesake. :) Like you and Sherry, I hope to meet JJ personally one of these days ... but I totally 'get' why this leg of your trip needs expedited.
DeleteI think we are "Keepers" right? I love your Caprese salad! A favorite of mine! I don't self monitor too much these days. When I think I'm getting a cold (in the old days and sometimes now) I double/triple/quadruple dose my usual vitamin C dose and usually can shake it off. Hubby had a sore throat about 6 weeks ago and was wondering if it had anything to do with the virus. For a week he checked his temperature 4 times a day and it was always below 98.6 (ranging 97.4 to 97.8).
ReplyDeleteFantastic with 16 years! What about a special meal delivered to your door if delivery is available?
betty
Absolutely, you're 'Keepers'! I wouldn't let a little thing like geography stand in the way. (*smile*) Thanks for the great suggestion!
DeleteDanny's not comfortable yet with dining out just like Tom. To be truthful, I'm not quite there yet, either. I know you two will come up with the perfect way to celebrate 16 great years, Myra. We celebrated (sort of) our 15th anniversary this past April at the height of all this mess. Oh, how I wish this virus would just disappear!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
From your mouth to God's ears, dear lady! I don't know that ours has to be perfect. In fact, our invitations called it, "Splendidly IMperfect."
DeleteLike Martha this comment maybe a post of my own! Number one. Can you guess where I'm sitting? You have given me a long list of things to do as soon as I finish the comment first who the heck is Jenna and who does she know in the White House. Second is what is caprese and what is that a dessert or a vegetable I can't tell by the photo so that's two things to research. Yes I do understand exactly what you mean about falling in love with somebody on the television and thinking that you could be friends and I thought that the first time I saw Kelly Clarkson on The Voice I still totally in love with her. Is her personality she's so real! I have no idea for what you can do for your anniversary because I have been pondering that same fact. My birthday is the 5th and Bob's is the 1st of October and our favorite places that we go Golden Corral for him and Culver's burger from me we can't go there. We have called out for pizza three times during the last six months so I assume we will do that or I might go through the drive-thru and get him a Philly cheesesteak at Salem. I do know whatever it is I will not be cooking. You are definitely a keeper in my book of bloggers and I fully understand that also
ReplyDeleteSo okay, I already PM'd you about caprese and Jenna. (No worries!) I like Kelly even better now that she's stopped wearing so much make-up. "Real" is the new beautiful! Thank you for being a capital-K-eeper!
DeleteNow I feel stupid while scrolling back up to get the name of the show I wanted to look up I realized I missed the name Bush and Jenna's middle name. Isn't it odd I've never even heard of her
ReplyDeleteOnce you told me all the insane hours you were working, no. That's not weird at all.
DeleteYes, I do take my temperature most every day. Since I still work and also go to church, I think it's the only thing to do, to keep me safe and those I'm around.
ReplyDeleteSmall price for peace of mind, isn't it?
DeleteYour Sunday dinner sounds wonderful! How nice to get together with you DIL and her mother. I don't monitor anything but my blood pressure these days. The only time I get a temp check is at the doctors office and they do tht when you check in. Hope you find the perfect way to celebrate your anniversary. I saw that Betty and her husband were looking for that too. It is wonderful we have such a great blog family. My day wouldn't be complete without checking in on all of you.
ReplyDeleteMy day, either! I may not have many 'real' family members, but treasure those of you who feel like family!
DeleteOh so true!
ReplyDeleteBlogging gives us some Sparkling Finds, now and then. Usually, they dim, over time.
And that's ok. We blog, for fun. Anything about blogging, which ceases to be fun, is not necessary to continue with. Life is too short.
Like life is too short, to finish every book, even if we do nottttttt enjoyyyyy it.
I'd not go out to eat to celebrate either.
Nope, no temp taking. Our Dear Daughter In Law got us one, way back. Never used it.
🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
Every day in one way or another, I'm reminded how short life really is. Funny, your mention of a book. 49% of the way through, I'm still struggling to engage.
DeleteI love a caprese salad. Sounds like a delicious meal. I love the friendships I have made blogging, including you! I only take my temp if I've feeling extremely warm on not feeling myself. So far it has always been normal. I don't watch any daytime TV but I agree with you on Kelly Clarkson! An early Happy Anniversary to you and Tom. I say order in a nice dinner. It will be a long time before I set foot in a restaurant.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I don't make a point of watching daytime TV either, but Tom always has it on in the background.
DeleteAnd a happy early Anniversary to you, as well! 41 years is remarkable!
ReplyDeleteAs of last Friday we've been married 56 years. How cool is that! When we celebrate it's by a picnic up on the land. We'll do that in another week or so, there's no rush.
ReplyDeletePlease let us know how you end up celebrating yours.
Thanks for telling me how down-to-earth Jenna is. I would watch to see her except we no longer have TV... the management here decided a year or so ago to take down the antenna for this building...only ours. We don't miss it, but it does seem strange.
I haven't taken my temperature in years.
Take care.
Way cool!!! How I'd enjoy picnic-ing again in the Jemez. Even behind the Girl Scouts' 'Little House', which I'm guessing has long been demolished.
DeleteI've never heard of Caprise. It looks classy though and now you've got my curiosity. We got an anniversary gift card for Red Lobster a few weeks ago and drove up to Flag for the day to break away for a few hours. I like a romantic dinner on the back deck with a string of lights around the tree that grows through the deck and a tablecloth on the patio table! Happy Anniversary to you and Tom!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary! Your romantic dinner scenario sounds like something out of a Home and Garden magazine spread ... sweet!
DeleteCaprese salad is delicious.
ReplyDeleteGoing out to eat is a dilemma. Some restaurants have a city of tents, misters spraying, etc. It has been 100+. Other than that we go take out from restaurants we enjoy.
I'd forgotten the misters, so popular in Phoenix. Ya, take-out's the way to go in this season of uncertainty.
Delete103.5, that would have given me a shock!! Caprese? I don't even know what that is but it looked good to me. I'm going to look it up today!!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? For a few seconds, I had myself dead and buried.
