So, I'm Feeling ...
Unsettled.
If we're Facebook friends, you already know a bit of Tom's predicament.
Wednesday morning we dropped the girls at the groomers and drove to the VA for Tom's 6-mo. check-up. Except, when they took his BP (low!) and did an EKG she decided more tests were in order. It almost felt like a 1960's progressive dinner party!
First to labs, then radiology for a carotid ultrasound, then upstairs for his eyes (didn't happen). Finally, a CT scan of the brain.
We've not heard anything yet, which I'm hoping is good news. At least 'not-terrible' news.
Oh, something else!
Because Tom's been a bit concerned about his low BP readings, a couple weeks ago his son and we decided Tom should stop taking the BP medication.
Well, when his doctor looked at our Excel spreadsheet -- in particular, his high resting heart rate -- she's all, "No, no! You need to keep taking this every day. It's not just for blood pressure but your heart!" She was truly aghast we didn't know that. (Did you?)

A little sad.
While the last 5-6 years at my workplace weren't the most pleasant, there were two individuals I considered enduring friends.
There's no way I'd think of leaving Alabama! But. Can one really spend 15+ years someplace without still wondering about the people and what's happening?
I guess they've moved on.
I need to stop spending so much time looking in that rear-view mirror!

Our Bible study group has just begun her Armor of God (video) series.
Do believe I've developed a girl crush. She's da bomb!

ReplyDeletePriscilla Shirer is marvelous - she was in War Room. She was also here at mt. Paran and a lot of the gals from my bible study went. They had to sit in the outer room - and Priscilla actually came out to talk to them. She said I know you are here to see me - I am here to see Jesus! She is awesome.

DeleteI just saw all the comments on FB a few minutes ago, and saw it had been there since the 26th, did not know any of this or see it when you posted it. hopefully you will hear something this week, not sure how VA works though.. prayers for good reports. I did not know about the heart and BP meds but I do know it says NEVER just stop BP without your doctor monitoring it. My doc freaked when I said I was going to stop... yay for a contact from MS Sean and I have not heard the lady you mentioned.

DeletePriscilla Shirer's entire family are truly a "bomb factory!" Love her dad, mom and siblings. If I lived closer, I would go to their church. I hope everything works out with your husband's health. And I have a tendency to look in the rear view mirror myself. Remembering is sometimes good for the soul.

ReplyDeleteYes, about those good friends. Life goes on. I made some efforts to contact and renew some childhood friendships, but I think it was a one way street. I thought long and hard about it. These guys have made friends and hung longer than our 3-8 years together. I finally come to that realization in my situation. It is good memories. I have settled with, 'that is what it is going to be.' I can live with it. I enjoy memories.

DeleteI've done 2 of Shirer's bible studies and I've seen her in person. I loved the studies, but was a bit disappointed in person. After paying the money to hear her speak, she mostly prayed and divided us up and had us praying in groups.

DeleteI'm not familiar with Priscilla Shirer but I will have to check her out. I did know about the meds but in my line of work I "should" know about this. Not that I'm an expert (because I'm not) but low blood pressure is "better" than high blood pressure. Low blood pressure could be a result of meds or infection or instability of some sort where high blood pressure can be associated with strokes. Glad the doctor ordered the extra testing. My philosophy; no news is good news. If they are tracking the results, anything that looked suspicious they would have been in contact with you sooner than later. Yum on the ribs; I hoped you enjoyed them!

DeletePrayers for you and Tom. I got my hand slapped -- figuratively speaking -- from my internist when I suggested I could go off one of my two BP meds. She did let me cut the dose, but not go off. Take good care!
ReplyDeleteI'm praying you got some good news. I believe, like all medications, that you should always talk to your doctor before stopping a medication but I can tell you my husband has done that too without talking to the doctor!
