So, the other day Tom accepted a buddy's invite to attend his community's 'First Friday' supper, some 50 miles up the road.
Everyone was very nice, but the program I can only describe as, 'fundamentalist revival.' Not off-putting; just different.
(Toto, I don't think we're in Phoenix anymore.)
'Wonder if we would have accepted, had we had any idea how dark the 2-lane winding road becomes after sunset. Speeding log transport trucks -- accustomed to the route -- regularly whizzed by, seemingly inches from our side mirror.
Later, Tom asked: "Is it me, or was that road narrower than normal?"
Blissfully quiet!
Unfortunately, one of my lady friends returned home from our luncheon to discover a huge tree had crashed through her roof -- demolishing a bedroom and part of their chimney.
Then after we got home from Maplesville Friday night, there came such a thunderstorm! About 3:00 the dogs began whining and the lightening set off our car alarms. Nothing to do but get up. (Yes, I was seriously eyeballing the liquor cabinet. Ha.)
Do you agree, the U.S. seems to be experiencing more instances of severe weather this year than in the recent past?
Watching
A while back my DIL recommended a movie they'd seen on Netflix. We finally got around to watching "Mr. Church."
Never thought I'd say Eddie Murphy and tear-jerker in the same sentence, but there you go.
No, it's not Oscar-worthy cinema, but 'feel-good' nevertheless.

….. and at our house it's paper towels or TP.
(Except when a certain sister-in-law visits.)
Yes, our trash can liners are Wal-Mart bags. Only the finest! (*smile*)

We use those same trash can liners and 'kleenex'!! I think the weather has been wicked so far this 'season'. Scary stuff. Nice that you have such a fun Bible study group!!

DeleteNow aren't you glad you joined that Bible study group? That does look good and I love that Tequila was involved! Scary with that road; glad you guys gt back safely. Its been a weir weather year all around this year so I'm not that surprised with the severity of some storms, etc. Heck a few weeks ago, or maybe just a week ago, Flagstaff got snow! Yep, we use the bags from Wal-Mart for our trash can liners. Used them for doggie clean up too when we had a dog to clean up after.

DeleteI love my bible study group but it closes in the summer - your girls do know how to have a good time. And the napkins - we use those too. That church sounds interesting. No you are no longer in Kansas!

DeleteWe always get severe weather in the south this time of year, Mevely, but Alabama has a real Tornado Alley feel, unfortunately. Let's hope for calmer weather soon!

DeleteI am shanking with fear over that dark and narrow road, AFTER the fact even... glad you are safe. we had a storm last night and Saturday night, 2 hours last night, 3 Sat night of booms and flashes and some rain... Big cried the whole time, he would not lay with me or sit or stop whimpering. tonight if it happens Bob will be awakened to sit with him. the weather is much more severe than it used to be.. all over the world, not just here. so sorry about your friends roof and bedroom. I must say the lady in the sombrero that is NOT going FB has totally MATCHED her blouse to the table cloth. brhahahha…

DeleteBeing in Los Angeles I can't say much about weather changes since there is not variation in weather here and he don't get much rain. It does seem to get colder every winter that I'm here, but I think that's more a function of age than climate.

DeleteOh no, so you can't be trusted with your word...LOL! Glad you made it home safe and sound. Mr. Church....can't remember if I've seen that one. I will check it out. Sorry we use Kleenex all the time. Every room in the house! We have to buy trash bags, California doesn't give out plastic bags anymore in the grocery stores. We use to use them for everything.

You wanna see narrow, winding roads? Come to Tennessee. That's why it takes me two weeks to recover every time I drive to town.

ReplyDeleteThe weather is particularly wicked except in Alaska. I'll be darned if my friend Judy isn't sitting on her wrap around deck admiring all her brilliant colorful flowers along with views of the mountains which surround their home. we get daily showers even for a few minutes but my hometown has been brutally flooded particularly the farming community :-( I am sorry about your friends home and the tree. I am of the opinion God created trees to be in the forest. We have 4 fifty plus year old pine trees and one raggedy ole tree that touches two sets of power lines. UGH! Not a tree fan in my yard for certain. I love your bible study group. Years ago I attended the best one with ladies who today would be the age I am now, older! Hee Hee! I learned so much from their kindnesses. I don't like night driving anywhere. We hitch a ride with the kids if they are going where we are going too. I hope your week is filled with goodness. HUGS
