Thanks to all who've wished me well!
I feel like such a moron, feeling nervous -- mostly about staying awake along the drive. (Don't tell Tom, OK?) I've downloaded an audio book and packed a cooler with Duke's smoked sausages, hard-boiled eggs and unsalted nuts.
Shoot. It wasn't that long ago I was driving 60+ miles each day with nary a care. In the last 4 months, I think I've driven to the store or the park maybe a dozen times? This once-independent gal had better re-grow a spine!
I did send a PM to my former boss, but she's tied up in litigation … there's little likelihood of our getting together. Still, when I wrote, 'I miss you' she responded, 'I miss you, too.' -- and extended an invite to visit their mountain home outside Asheville someday. What a life lesson, how sometimes love and loathing can be inexplicably entwined. Foolish, but yes -- I indulged myself in a few hours' regret the other night, wondering what my life would be like had I not turned a deaf ear to her warning.
So, my upcoming part-time job may not happen after all. Marietta had asked me to 'come by anytime and visit' but I'd not gotten around to it 'til Friday. Come to find out, her assistant is having second thoughts about leaving home to pursue a degree. In fact, the young lady hasn't even been formally accepted -- and classes begin next month! Naturally, Marietta says, 'I can't just kick her to the curb.'
Oh well, she's taking a little vacay as well. We'll see what's-what over lunch week after next Regardless of the outcome, she's the sort of person I feel like I've known all my life, and I think we could become good friends.
And oh, I almost forgot! Thanks to your responses, organic or not, I've backed off the Castor-oil for my dry eyes. I'd a referral from DIL, but when I called for an appointment to have my eyes re-examined the girl said I needed a referral from my primary care physician. Whaaaaat's that all about? Lois suspects it may be on account I'm on Medicare, but still. So much to learn, and frankly, I'm reluctant to navigate the system. (maybe-boss) Marietta did give me the low-down on 3 physicians to call when I get back.
You know what? It's all good!
Tom's put a Mississippi Pot Roast in the slow cooker and we'll share a bottle of wine tonight.
I'll definitely be reading blogs, but don't know how much commenting's going to get done. For now ...

Have fun!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels!! I can't wait to meet you!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess seeing/not seeing your former boss took care of itself. That's a dilemma you can shelve for another time. You're going to meet up with Terri??!! How awesome! You two will have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI can relate, I have changed so much in retirement. Where did the independent gal go? Have a good trip & be safe. As far as the old boss goes, the situation resolved itself at least for now. Are you disappointed about the part-time job?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your adventures!! Sorry to hear the job might not be working out, but at least you gained a friend in the process! I bet the driving will come back to you when you get behind the wheel and start down the road; kind of like riding a bike!
ReplyDeleteHave fun; can't wait to hear of your adventures when you get back home!

when I moved here in 1984, my parents and my sons and all relatives and friends were 6 hour drive away, in Savannah, I ran up and back once a month. when I married bob he ran with me until my mother died in 90... after that I went to see daddy by myself, I made the trip alone for years. after daddy came here in 06 I went twice now I am afraid to go by myself and have not been since 2008.. I said to Bob, Myra is so brave to drive from Al to FL all alone. safe trip, travel mercies and I KNOW you will have FUN. see you
ReplyDeleteI do wish you safe travels and a happy trip! I can relate to getting sleepy when driving. I no long do trips by myself when it takes any longer than an hour. Hope you stop often and stretch your legs. It helps!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all your travels and adventures!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Enjoy-have so much fun!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAw it doesn't talk but an hour to get back to dodging fools and old folk on the highway! LOL
ReplyDeleteHave fun, enjoy, remember all those things you wondered and worried about seldom bit you. Life is good and actually works out. Again have a ball!
Did you pick an HMO. Then your primary doctor must do a referral. We like having and HMO. Other Medicare plans cost more but you can go to any doctor who take Medicare without a referral. Sorry about your job. Seeing you on Facebook I know you are having a great trip. Safe travels.
