Hodgepodge Nostalgie

G'morning!
What a pleasure to hook up again with the fine folks at Hodgepodge.  As ever, a big thanks to our hostess, Joyce!

What's something in your house you'd like to get rid of but can't?

If Tom knew I really wanted to kick our saggy love seat to the curb he'd probably say OK. Reluctantly.  But with it's high sides, it's practically the only place he can sleep comfortably.   (I probably watched too many episodes of Ozzie & Harriet, believing married folks went to bed and arose at the same time each day with nary an ache or pain... sigh.)

When is the last time you experienced a sense of nostalgia?  Elaborate.

Certain songs are most apt to trigger my emotions.  For instance ...

You're only allowed three apps on your smart phone or tablet.  Which three do you keep?

Facebook, Gmail, Google Maps

July 11 is National Blueberry Muffin Day.  Who knew?  Do you like blueberry muffins?  If you were going to have a muffin, would blueberry be your choice?  What's the last thing you baked?

Because I rarely eat bread or fruit, I'll pass.
Bake?  Every November/December I make my mom's banana nut bread.  Even Tom, who's not especially fond of bananas, loves it.  I suspect her secret was using buttermilk.

What's the best way you've changed since you were a child?  In what way are you still the same?

Tho' no-one would mistake me for seeming poised and self-assured, I'm no longer ridiculously shy and insecure.

Still a dreamer … Still a people pleaser.

Insert your own random thought here.

I've so many mixed emotions about next week's trip, y'all!

Friends - old and new - waiting to be embraced! …..
Dishes-which-can't-be-duplicated just waiting to be tasted! …..

On the other hand, I'm inexplicably nervous about calling my former boss.  Once we were extraordinarily close:   My holding Jo Anne's hand in the cardio E.R., while we fibbed to her hubby, "Everything's just fine!"
…. She holding my head in the back of the limo after I'd too much to drink, post April 15.  Oh, the bottles of wine we used to consume over lunch at Olive Garden!

Although she possesses one of the most brilliant minds in the industry, I've discovered she's become a very negative individual ... venomous about the very things I hold dear.

What to do?  I'm putting it in God's hands.

Prayers for the journey are appreciated!

Thanks for visiting … have a great day … be safe!

Hugs,
Myra

  1. Praying for traveling. Definitely put it in God's hands about calling your former boss. You may be pleasantly surprised! Buttermilk is always that good secret ingredient people forget about, but it does enhance the flavor of lots of recipes! Bet that banana bread of your mom's is delicious indeed!

    1. Thank you, Betty! Ya, the buttermilk by itself tastes yukky, but makes this bread really moist.

  2. Buttermilk,huh?

Oh, that's a tough call about your former boss. I'll be praying for a safe trip and that God helps you make the right decisions about calling her.

    1. Thanks, Stacy. I've PM'd her but learned she's tied up in litigation my only free day. Still, we exchanged, "I miss you's." So weird to LOVE the individual despite disliking their leanings.

  3. Awww . . . that upcoming visit with your former boss/friend sounds like a tough one. One has to wonder what has led to her bitter heart. Makes me hurt for her and the unknown stuff she's gone through to become this way. May you love her tenderly during your visit.

    1. Aw, thanks! Ya, everyone's road is peculiar. I know part of the story, but struggle with the rest.

  4. I have no nostalgia genes, but every now and then I hear an old hymn daddy and I used to sing and enjoy it.
I know all about the sofa sleeping and the not sleeping well and getting up and down. bob sleeps like a rock, I am the one who moves around during the night.
my change is once again the same as yours. in highschool I would not even eat lunch in the cafeteria unless my friend Madeline was there, I latched on to her because I was to shy to eat alone or to talk with others. I am now the opposite, it changed when I had my two sons, I went from introvert to extrovert, no idea why. almost everything about me has changed for the better except I am still stubborn to the bone.. sorry you are fretting over the visit, but you know I am NOT

  6. I smiled about the sleeping couples. For almost 50 years we bedded together and rose together. BUT now over half the nights wakes up on the couch. She gets up in the night and sleep reads. She says books put her to sleep best. (What better than ME???) hahahahahaha

Loved the visit as always. Have a great trip!

  10. When I was thinking about apps on my phone I was thinking more of an emergency scenario. Yum on the banana bread. I'm still a dreamer too! I will definitely pray for you and your trip.

  12. I loved listening to the song as I read your answers. I understand you fears about your old friend. I probably could even guess at some of the problem. My mom's banana nut bread recipe has buttermilk in it too....who would have thought. But she didn't make it at all when I was a kid. It was after I moved away from home. Richard and I didn't share a bed the last half of our marriage. Not even the same bedroom. It was tough (on him) at first but we came to love our arrangement. PS I would take him in my bed any time if he'd just come home for a few days. LOL!!

  13. I never even heard of buttermilk until we moved to the South. If you ordered milk in a restaurant, you had to specify "sweet" milk if you didn't want buttermilk. I do know it's great in some recipes, though, but I never buy it. Instead, I put a tablespoon of vinegar into regular milk. Works just as well.

As far as seeing your old boss when you travel? Do what's in your heart. If you want to see her, see her. Don't let a worry about what she might be like now stop you. Better to see her and risk being disappointed than to not see her and always regret not doing it when you had the chance.

    Have fun!

    1. I never heard of putting vinegar in regular milk! Certainly cheaper than pouring a 1/2 cup and dumping the rest down the drain!
