Note to self: Get rid of this stinking thinking!
Since we visited last ...
Tom's doing really well in physical therapy; almost pain free. He's ready to kick his walker to the curb, but I'm thinking, "not so fast, buddy." Worst case scenario, I may be next.
Do you -- or someone you know -- suffer from sciatica? That's something I never expected but somehow stepped into the line of fire. And how has that word, "suffer" become such a frequent part of folks' conversation?
For instance. At my annual doc's visit last week she asked, "Do you suffer from allergies? Me: "No, I kind of enjoy it." (Truth -- I love to sneeze.)
No. Like I told her (doc), I never envisioned myself becoming that person. So, here I am swapping ice packs for heating pads; all that goes along with the aging game. I did promise her I'll attend at least two P.T. sessions.
Momma always reminded me, "Things could be worse." At least, following these appointments Tom usually asks, "Are you hungry?" -- and I'll act surprised. "Now that you mention it ..." (The boy knows my love language!)
It's been a long time, but yesterday we were up early and out to an estate sale -- in a lovely neighborhood we didn't know existed. A different home isn't on my bingo card -- but I've not come far from the girl who used to sit on the floor cutting out "dream rooms" from her mother's magazines. Tom found smaller stereo speakers to replace the behemoths taking up real estate in the living room and I came home with a pretty lamp.
Since our provider (DISH network) cut ties with NBC programming, we're streaming more movies (Melania - 2 thumbs up) and I'm doing my best to read at least an hour each day. Aside from the "One Chicago" franchise, life's too short to sit staring at the television. The weeds outside would agree. (*sigh*)
Thought for the day --
Hugs, Myra

Glad your Tom is doing well. I haven't used a heating pad yet, I little Tylenol usually fixes what hurts. I have problems with allergies here and use a lot tissues! The nose drips and I sneeze. Hope you enjoy your chicken chili. Sounds really good! Love, ma
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ma!
DeleteI always get the free birthday ice cream, instead of the cake. I do love those bar cakes, though!! Glad Tom's therapy is going well and I'm sure yours will also help with the sciatica. Keep us posted! Nice finds at the estate sale! Have a blessed weekend and week ahead! xo
ReplyDeleteI'll sure try, Terri. I hope you do the same! xo
DeleteDid I hear you say "birthday" and I somehow missed it, Myra? Forgive me! Had I known, there would have been a card in the mail. Good news about Tom, but do hang onto that walker. One never knows as we age what lurks around the next corner. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteNo worries, Martha. It's not until next week (St. Patty's Day), but I'm all about celebrating for days (and days)!
DeleteFOMO - fear of missing out. It's a real thing.
ReplyDeleteGlad Tom is doing good in PT. And it won't hurt for you to try some. Yes, I have it on and off myself. Allergies too. lol
Did you buy something at the sale?
I watched and liked Melania too.
You and I have birthdays together - I got the free ice cream! lol
Yes, I found two small art pieces plus a pretty lamp (to replace the one Tom accidentally tipped over).
DeleteI've had a few bouts of sciatica pain in my life. What worked for me was PT, walking and swimming and ice! It comes back if I sit too much.
ReplyDeleteGood news about Tom's recovery. Always nice to hear from you.
Thanks for the PT thumb's up ... I needed that!
DeleteI'm so happy to read that Tom is doing so well. Keep up the PT and give it a try yourself. It will help some too.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you found some good things at the estate sale. I love new treasures.
All the weeding that Dave and I have been doing sure hasn't helped my nose. Gotta keep at it for a few more days and then we will take a brake and get back to eBay. More moola is going out than is going in..Its getting pretty tight.
Enjoy your chili, we are going to have leftover chicken "something or other". We'll see what developes.
Hugs
Sue
I hear you on the pennies going out! Rising postage costs are discouraging, but I still need to pay more attention to my eBay account.
DeleteLove what you shared, that's the truth! I understand, I do not like having anxiety over things. Good news on Tom. Sorry about your sciatica. My sneezes are really loud. I never saw me being like I am now. I'm so disappointed in my body. Your meal looks delicious. Glad you liked the movie.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your experiences, Debby!
DeleteI'm glad Tom is doing so well with his PT, but I'm sorry about your sciatica. My dad had that and it was horrible.
ReplyDeleteI've catastrophized about many things, but this came out of left field.
DeleteYes, unfortunately, I do suffer from sciatica. Sigh...and while browsing at an antique mall today, it hit me hard, I will be 59 in a week or so...almost 60, where have the years gone? I stood there looking at an antique mirror, going, "Mirror mirror who's not the fairest of them all?" This poor older man walked by and was laughing, but he wasn't being unkind. He said, "Young lady, you are just a beautiful person, and still very fair on the eyes." Ok then...that did make me feel better. LOL I really need to start acting my age, wink. I don't feel like it, most days, but you know, the doldrums hit. sigh. It is what it is, Myra...we all go through it. We went to Publix too today, hey wait, I can a birthday bar? What? Do tell.---I am so happy to read about Tom, that makes my day. smiles
ReplyDeleteYes! If you're a member of 'Club Publix' you should get an e-mail (within 5 days of your bd) saying you can get a free bar cake (or ice cream).
DeleteI didn't remember that your birthday is this week too! I think Barbara's is Monday, my son Scott's is Wednesday, and I think Linda (above) is in a week but I don't know the exact day. Sciatica is NO fun. I had it for years. Unfortunately, I ended up having surgery because I had a serious issue with my spine and ended up having a spinal fusion...but that did cure the sciatica! I pray you don't have that worry...mine was some kind of genetic thing I had no clue about. Thankfully I was younger then. The PT should help you...and perhaps changing some of your sitting and standing habits. Glad to hear Tom is doing so much better. And going to an estate sale is also good therapy! LOL. Take care and do see about some PT. That can really help.
ReplyDeleteOh, I had no idea you underwent back surgery! Scary stuff. Thank you for sharing your experience ... and encouragement!
DeleteI am praying for Tom's and your good health. It is good news he is doing well. Yes; we all get a new health surprise every day as we grow older.
ReplyDeleteThe thing to do is to take it all in our stride and trust in God. When I told the doctor I think I have water on my knee he said I was not aiming straight. What did he mean?
He then gave me some pills the size of golf balls. I told him they were too big to swallow; and what are they for? He said he did not know, his vet friend gave him some horse pills and he was trying them on his patients.
Keep smiling dear4 friend. God bless you both.
How can I help but smile when I get messages like yours! Thank you, dear friend.
DeleteWE may learn fast or slow, but we humans LEARN the good, the bad and the ugly. BUT at least it is great to hear Tom is doing well. Love the graphics. Good stuff. Take care and hug the old dude, even if it hurts a little. ;-)
ReplyDeleteRemember when Rick used to say, "Every day is a school day."
DeleteI got an email from one of the local chain grocery stores telling me that they're giving me five dollars to spend in the bakery department this month. I'm torn between getting good bread for St. Patrick's Day and getting a good dessert :-)
ReplyDeleteWoo-hoo! Go for the Good Stuff!
DeleteHappy birthday week!! PT and motrin really help(ed) my back pain/sciatica! The BBQ restaurant looks familiar :-)!!
ReplyDeleteAre you familiar with the old mill in downtown Prattville? Fat Boy's BBQ ranch is right there on the river.
