Good morning friends,
There's a soft cloak of fog outside my window. Tom and the girls still slumber. Before engaging the coffee maker, I ponder which of my mugs suits my mood.

With nothing pressing on our agenda, I've put on my favorite pair of tartan pajama pants. If we decide to venture out a little later, of course I'll change. That all depends. Food Outlet's one thing. But Publix? That calls for an uptick in grooming. (Am I the only one who dresses for the destination?)
Our week? As is normal, a hodgepodge of blessings.
When the air conditioner up and quit Sunday night, the record player that lives in my head began, "Gloom, despair and agony on me ... deep down depression, excessive misery...." (Anyone remember Hee Haw?)
Nevertheless, a service man stood at the front door before 8:30 Monday morning. Considering the possibilities it was a quick, relatively inexpensive fix.
Not long after, a phone call: Could we be at Russell Medical (Alex City) Thursday morning? Doc wants Tom to have a CT scan.
Aside from the occasional log trucks that always mess with my head (think a white-knuckle grip on the steering wheel) -- it's a picturesque drive. 45 miles of two-lane, twisty-turning up-and-down asphalt peppered on both sides with residences both humble and grand.
A new-to-us BBQ joint. Tucked away in the corner of a mostly abandoned shopping strip, I had my reservations. When entering, however, my fat cells began to applaud. Remembering, some of the best food I've ever enjoyed has come from places some folks call "dives."
I think the little white-haired lady behind the counter was amused by our trying to decide. (To Tom: "No honey, no beef. We only have pork.")
In the end, he ordered a Monster Hog ... generous serving of pulled pork topped with coleslaw and fries. Only $7.99!
I sure wasn't disappointed by my Cajun Supreme Salad!
Sauteed onion, red and green pepper ... diced chicken breast and Cajun white sauce.
I want to try and recreate this here at home.
Oh, and I cheerfully threw myself off the Keto wagon, loving their onion rings dipped in honey mustard. Some things are worth it!
We wanted to check out the adjoining huge antique mall, but decided getting home before the rain was a better idea.
There's always next time!
What else?
I've set the paperwork aside 'til Monday morning and plan to indulge in a new-to-me Baldacci novel.

Yes, Myra, I have great memories of Hee Haw and now this little ditty will play in my head for the rest of the day. LOL! So glad you could get your a/c fixed pronto. I agree about your comment about books. I do not describe the characters in my books, or the places in details, to allow the reader to imagine the scenes and scenarios for themselves. Is Father Ignatius tall, short, medium height, thin, well-built ??? How about the other characters?

Yes, I love to paint pictures of fictional characters in my head! Fr. Ignatius? Early on, I thought of Robert Young (Marcus Welby, MD and Father Knows Best). Medium height, slim (but not thin). I need to give thought to the others!
DeleteTo be perfectly honest, I never visualised Father Ignatius in my head. But now you mention it, Robert Young is perfect for the role. I've never seen his movies but checked his photo on Google.

DeleteYour description of the foods has no made my mouth water...Sometimes the best food does come from those hole in the wall places. Air conditioning woes can be so stressful, but thankful or you all it was an easy fix...Yay! I always have to look descent to go to the grocery store. I see way too many people I know to look like I just stepped out of bed and into the car. Hope Tom gets that ct scan and that the results are better than amazing...Happy Saturday, Myra

DeleteI'm right there with Shug. My mouth is watering for the sandwich and the salad looks fantastic too. Boy those prices sure aren't CA ones. We are on our way to the poor house when eating out nowadays. Believe it or not, I'm making soup on this 104F day. I am concocting my own version of Won Ton Soup. I have veggie left overs and a BBQ pork chop that will join the frozen mini won ton dumplings in chicken and veggie broth. Should be good ... at least I hope so. I really love won ton soup at a Chinese restaurant. Hope these frozen ones will be almost as good. To be continued. I hope I remember to take a picture.

ReplyDeleteThe way you described the food made it sound good. You eat a little more on the spicy side then I do. I dress accordingly too. Sometimes I slip though and that is when I will run into someone I know!
Well, I never go out looking homeless, but will dress a little nicer going to Publix than say, Wal-Mart.

Deletethe food looks YUM and I do love Baldacci... prayers for the pt scan, we go on Monday to find out if Bob can get rid of the boot from the fractured ankle, my son and his wife came and knocked out a LONG list of To do things and we had a blast while they did.. Michelle works at full speed ahead, and in the length of time it took me to order pizza had completed the chaos of the front bedroom and I was shocked. it was a total mess and now is not.

DeleteYes I try to always try to look somewhat presentable when leaving the house. That’s just how my mom raised us. I actually envy those who don’t care. Just throw on clothes and they’re off.
ReplyDeleteI don’t trust many restaurants anymore after watching some of the shows about the condition of their stoves, freezers. Yuck. Now I’m looking all too closely. Once we all went to this popular pizza place with the family. I’m sitting in a booth and saw a highway of cockroaches between the top of the booth and the wall. Now I’m eagle eye on the cleanliness. I still ate my pizza which was exceptional but haven’t been back since.
I hope all Tom’s tests look good. Isn’t it interesting that sometimes the only times we get out and do anything fun, are for Doctor's appointments?

Keeping Tom in prayer, and you of course...as for Publix, well, it's so blessedly hot, so shorts and a t shirt will do, most of the folks in their dress like that too. We had such a nice young man wait on us today, well, we always have a nice time in Publix, smiles. OH, and that BBQ---that looks so good. ☺

DeleteI do love good barbecue! Pulled pork sandwiches are delicious! Hope all the tests and scans show only good results. Air conditioner repairs can be so expensive. Glad yours was an easy fix. We are spoiled by having them. But in this heat they are necessary! I grew up without and am thankful I survived the heat with only fans to cool us. Now, I cannot imagine being without it. Now you can enjoy what's left of summer! Going to the grocery store is amusing. You see so many people in public wearing pajama pants and a t shirt. I'm with you I like to dress up enough that I look fairly decent. Sundresses and shorts are my summertime wear!

Like you, I grew up without central air conditioning -- both in the NM mountains and Minnesota flatlands. Whew! I guess the notion of being "too hot" never occurred to us. (lol)
DeleteLured by the title, seduced by the kindred wardrobe and A/C mishap (I'm sitting in the veritable DREGS and decomposition of a complete re-wire of our little 1959 ranch---two stories the way we live in it, and rafter to ground debris and drywall dust from the great pockson wall and ceiling to make NEW outlets and fixtures). Loving that Barbecue and longing for some of Leonard's impeccable rib ends, but your sandwich looks promising---was there slaw on? It's the LAW.

Myra ... just thought I would say that I forgot to say the name of the mini won ton dumplings. Its Asian and the bag went out to the garbage last night. I did buy it at Walmart and I also keep a bag of frozen stir fry vegetables in the freezer for such times as this. Everything is already cut...easy peasy. That's my modus operandi...

It is surprising how some people dress today. So sorry about your air conditioner. We have been in our house for 18 years now and when we finally turn them on we say a prayer. So far so good this year. Glad it was an easy fix. Mark had a stress test too. It came out okay too. I hope his CT test goes well. The meals sounds yummy.
