Monday Matters* (Vol. 9)

*Matter: (noun)  An affair or situation under consideration; a topic

G'morning!

Did y'all wonder if I'd forgotten how to blog?  For no particular reason I've been caught up in the mundane ... leapfrogging imaginary obstacles.

Anyway!
Here we are on the cusp of a brand-new shiny week.  And in spite of my distaste for all things pastel, Mother Nature's busy showing off her Spring wardrobe.  Glorious!
Even Grace-E, our little sun worshiper, loves being outside.

Her favorite spot -- atop the septic tank!
😆

Thank you so much for your sweet birthday wishes!
Sunday afternoon Tom and friends performed their Spring sing-along.  'Little Boy blue, come blow your horn'!

He claims to never having heard most of these songs before but faked it pretty good.  At least no-one threw rotten tomatoes! (lol)

Who'd have guessed a rainy St. Patrick's Day would draw such crowds on 'restaurant row'?   Instead of going inside, I voted to go get my Publix birthday freebie (carrot bar cake) which I enjoyed in the kitchen -- a fork in one hand, a glass of wine in the other.

My kids generously gifted me some green -- that I promptly took to Amazon for a 3" gel mattress topper .... and a whiz-bang kitchen sink stopper.   (Don't I know how to live on the edge? lol)  My birthday, my rules!

🌻

How do y'all feel about tradesmen who 'no call, no show'?  We were sure put-out yesterday afternoon, not inclined to give K a second chance.  Except, his parents are good friends.  Awkward!

Then, K called first thing this morning.  He wants to come late today to look at the bathrooms and give us a quote to renovate one or both.   No pun intended, the master bath is circling the drain.  I don't know how many more years we'll be able to stay here -- and as everyone knows, it's kitchens and bathrooms that sell houses.

🌻

This morning I'm excited to meet a friend for lunch.   D and I met a couple of years ago at Bible study and were starting to get close.  Then all of a sudden, she put out a PM (that) she was parting ways with Robinson Springs, effective immediately.   Rumor has it, someone felt threatened by her larger-than-life presence and informed D, "You don't run this church!"  Why are people so cruel to one another?

Is it still considered gossip when you hear it from the horse's mouth?Hopefully I'll find out in a little bit over a juicy plate of carbs!

Tomorrow we're back to Alex City for another appointment with Tom's pulmonologist.   I'm not wild about the hour's ride -- particularly via 2-lane rural roads.   Still, there's no escaping a certain charm.  I love many of the older homes -- fading gingerbread appointments above tired porches.  Yet tended so nicely.  As my favorite columnist might say, 'Proud.'

So God willing, I'll be back soon at the Hodgepodge.
'Til then, have yourselves a sweet day .....  thanks for stopping by!

Hugs, Myra

  1. Good morning, Myra! Hope you have a good lunch with your friend. I'm meeting some former co-workers for dinner this evening. Must be the day for getting together with old friends.

  2. Praying for Tom and his appointment with the doctor; that all will be OK. Praise the Lord.

Gossip is so bad, because whether it's true or not, we'll never see that person in the same light again. It's OK to ask the individual directly what's happened. That's not gossip. It shows concern and love. The fact you're meeting her shows you care.

I share your views on no-show tradesmen. We've had a few lately. We wanted a plumber, and electrician and someone to erect a new fence all around the garden. Plenty of promises and no-show on the day. Some came, measured what's to be done, and then failed to send a quotation of the costs involved. They wasted their time and ours.

Keep smiling, Mevely, and be happy. God bless you and Tom.

  3. I will keep Tom in my prayers that they can find out what's going with him at the doctor appointment, I never had a no show for appointments, although some came later than expected, Hope your luck is changing. Love, ma

  4. Perhaps the person who said “you don’t run this church” was just telling her something that needed to be said.
My sister needs to be told this regularly at her church.

    1. I found out there was more to it -- but fortunately she's happier at another church.

  5. I'm in a foul mood today, with nothing much to say......but the spring blossoms, the music video, and Grace-E on the septic tank gave me big smiles.
I despise doctor appointments and long drives on two-lane roads - - but I hope all goes well for Tom. Take care.

  6. Myra, you really have a way with words. I really love reading your thoughts and rants too.
Love the photo of your sweetie on the septic tank.
We have been going through some things with insurance and waiting for calls and over talking and not quite understanding things because of accents..oh my don't get me started.
My musing this morning came out of my mouth to my Hubby. I feel so old (I really am) this morning. So much weighing heavy on my mind. I know that God has me in His hand but sometimes I just can't "let Go" of my own worry..ok enough of that.
Praying all goes well with Tom's appointment and safe travels to and from.
Churches are a petri dish for emotions. Its because we are people and human. I don't know why some can be so hurtful. Hope you enjoy your carbs and can find out ways to move on , hate when friendships crumble.

    1. What a sweet thing to say! Thank you!
Tom and I were just watching a piece on the Today show how our emotions and anxiety can wreak havoc in our heads. Right there with you!

  7. it might still be gossip from the horses mouth, since the horse will tell it how he/she sees it which may or not be true. like bob told me from his horses you know what mouth this morning that the old man who wear shorts and knee socks to the YMCA doesn't like him. I said why, he said he doesn't talk to me, but talks to others. having known the horses mouth of whom I speak, I said do you speak to him? he might think the same of you. oops took over the blog again!!
it would be odd to be in a church where every body gets along and no one gets upset and leaves. HUMANS do not get along no matter where they are. love learning on the everlasting arms and back in the first 19 years of my life may have sang the alto part of it a thousand or more times.

  8. I've PO'd folks at Churches by accident before and they've PO'd me. I still stayed. Maybe D wants a change. Whatever the reason I get that (not that she needs or wants my approval).
Grace-E made me giggle. You know what I thought of? A new title for the post, "One Laid Over The Septic Tank". Ok, that was silly. 🤣 I blame the pain.
I'm uncharacteristically havin my carbs in liquid form this afternoon. That procedure I had done this mornin' has left me ailin'. Yeah, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
I can't wait for this day to be over.
Love your posts. You really are a talented wordsmith.
    Blessings. 💙

  9. Yep, that puts wrinkles in things: Except, his parents are good friends. Awkward!.....
But I am smiling it takes a good musician to fake it, and the good ones do it many times.
I'm with jon, I smiled at the fuzzy kid on the septic tank!!!

  10. You have been busy!
I love the idea of carrot cake and wine - you go for it - hope you had a wonderful birthday.
And I am glad you got what you wanted - I do the same thing - I get what I want even if it odd.
It is awkward with K for sure.
Sorry about the church issue - she may have 'her' opinion.
Good luck with Tom at the doctor!
    Love, sandie

    1. Have you read Sarah Ban Breathnach's 'Simple Abundance'? I love what she says about birthdays -- in part, "Many people who love you will try, but no-one can celebrate your birthday exactly the way you need for it to be observed."

    2. You know, that goes for anniversaries too. When we celebrated our 60th in January our 2 sons asked what we wanted to do to celebrate. We said no parties or big To-Do's. We just wanted our families to be together and do and go places that were and are meaningful to just us..some traditions, lots of chatting and chewing and lots of tender going over our last 60 years together..
They pulled it off and we had 4 days of memories that will nourish us for the rest of our lives.. Yes Simple Abundance... wonderful...

  11. Good luck with Tom and the doctor! I hope you have a great lunch and that things improve with the renovations. Things like that can be a real mess.

  13. Oh my! I hope you had a nice visit with your friend over carbs, and I pray you gave her some space to get things off her chest and hopefully resisted the urge to "take sides". That's when things get ugly. Having spend the majority of my adult life in churches, mostly as a part of the staff in one way or the other, mostly as a Pastor's Wife, but also in other capacities, I can tell you that there's always someone who thinks they own the church and they have the right to tell everyone else what to do and when to do it and when not to do it. Sometimes people do need to be put in their place, but hopefully with love. Then again, I've seen some people who needed to be told "in love" that they ought to just move on...that's why there are so many different churches. We can't all stay happy in the same place at the same time...it just isn't Christian! LOL. We have to "spread the joy" and "share the Love". LOL. It's Holy Week, and sometimes we all forget why we go to church in the first place. It's all about the Lamb...The Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world. May we keep our eyes on Him especially this week and let bygones be gone! Praying for your friend and your church. I love the photo of Grace-E on the septic tank cover. That's a keeper! Oh, people who don't keep appointments...I may give them another chance if they have a good enough excuse...but 3 strikes and you're out! LOL. But the hope of getting things updated and renovated might make me be more tolerant if the person is fair and reasonable and good. Glad you had a nice birthday, and I pray for Tom's appt. to go well and for you to enjoy the drive hopefully on a pretty day. (((hugs))) and love to you.

  14. Did you friend get caught in the disaffiation rift.? Our church lost about 250 members but we have gained over 350 from area churches that remained UMC. This has been the biggest divide I have ever witnessed at church. Anne in the kitchen

  16. I always enjoy your posts. I was backward today. Having forgotten to add my fill in's and finding out about Ellen losing one of her kitties Joanie. Made me sad as she is such a kind heart. She does the fill ins with Lorianne. They do a great job. Your birthday should be just the way you want it to be. I have found sometime, not always, but many church people can be wicked mean. I am sad for your friend experiencing cruel remarks. I still love RedRocks even though it has gotten bigger but most everyone is friendly and the age of the church goers is all over the place, so it is nice. Hannah and Jake have that sweet little church and we were sad we could not meet their pastor and his wife. He lost his dd so they were out of town when we were there. When I worked with Monica she always bought a carrot cake at the Village Inn yum and when I worked in the hospital, Helen our supervisor made the best carrot cake from scratch. Rebekah is after me to make a Coca cola Cake. One of theses I will. It is so rich it is a very tiny cake. Plus it doesn't cost a kings ransom like Cracker Barrel charges.Going to the store get cuties once my sweetheart gets here. My car finally thawed out today but after fiddling with all that snow and ice I was too beat to go anywhere. Then the kids stopped by, Shea and Harrison. I am happy to see you here. Love & Prayers to you and Tom.
