Bucket? ... or Chuck-it?

    ca 1956 ...
    Happy Birthday to me!

Top o'the morning to y'all!

So, I woke up to find the skies drizzling (again).
Two cups of coffee later, I chose to skip church services and spend time here with some of my favorite people.

We had such a good time with Troy and Lois yesterday -- catching up on all things that matter while consuming an indecent amount of carbs.  Tom's playing in another concert/sing-along this afternoon which means I'll have to get presentable.  In a little while.

'Til then ...

Many long years ago I drafted a Bucket list.  Ah, the life and times of a daydream believer!
Inspired by another blogger, a few years later I created a Vision Board.

You know what happened next?
2020: The world, as I knew it, came to a screeching halt.

I don't know what's so compelling, but every now and then I go back and check obituaries for those folks who played a huge part in shaping the person I am today.

Thankfully, there were few surprises.  Still, a reminder how fragile our lives really are.

I think most of you know how much I want to travel.
Right now, Tom's health concerns mean I don't stray too far from home.

That doesn't mean I won't make a new, more realistic Bucket List!  For the record.

I hope 2024 finds me  ...

☘️ in Florida, Texas and New Mexico
"Once is not enough!

☘️ at Cheese University
"Cheese education without pretention."

☘️ Attending a friends' weekend getaway.
"Girls just wanna have fun!"

☘️ Meeting those of you for whom I've come to care so very much.

and finally ...

☘️ Enjoying a transAtlantic voyage --
NYC to Southhampton
While this used to be a pipe dream, the older I've become, it's something I really (really) want to experience one more time.

Thankfully, my 'chuck-it' list is small.

I love what the author Sarah Ban Breathnach has to say:
"Birthdays are not only new beginnings, they are also moments of personal closure."
For instance .....

☘️ Stop trying to please all the people all the time!
... not a 'Karen' exactly, but I really need to start standing up for myself.

☘️ Nail Salons
... not in the slightest way relaxing.  I can't pretend I'm not put off by all the giggling and chatter in tongues I can't begin to decipher.

☘️ Church
... while I adore my little church family, there are some Sundays I feel more in symphony with what someone's published or sung.  No dress code required!

☘️ Diet
My new 'ideal' weight isn't the same as it was 20 years ago, but I'm okay with that.  A low-carb lifestyle may not be everyone's cup of tea, but ...

Happy New Year to me ....
Thank you for coming along!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I always remember your St. Paddy's Day birthday, and I think of green carnations. This is a day of new beginnings and sobering retrospects. I hope your day is wonderful, filled with love and joy!

  2. This is a radical change of subject - - but you mentioned scanning obituaries. I do that, too, and have made shocking discoveries. Recently I learned that two of my cousins have passed away.

    1. I first heard of that on an episode of the Today Show when they were making fresh mozzarella. I love cheese, but would love to know more.

  6. Happy Birthday, Myra!!! Another March buddy on my blogging team. I don't plan to do any traveling whatsoever as Danny's health and wellness is now a day to day thing. That's okay. I'd rather be with him than anyone else.
    Blessings and celebrate!

  7. Happy new Year for you and I hope you get those things you want the most and I used to check the obits daily, but now our local wants 5 bucks a month. I can go one time and scroll, and wait a few weeks and do that but i keep forgetting to do it. I did a couple of weeks ago while remembering a fond but not so fond memory checked the Poppell Brothers, 4 brothers whom I adored, their parents were best friends with my parents and since i had no dates ever, sometimes their mother would make them take me with them to a ball game, and once to a party. Turns out 2 of them are deceased, one in 2020 one in 2021 both of them were the same age as am. that got me on a roll and whoo boy, so many dead
    and dare I say this?
here goes. back when I was forced by a preacher dad to go every time the doors opened, the thing i disliked the most were those afternoon or evening song fests.

    1. I won't pay the Abilene Reporter-News to read on-line, and instead go to one or both of the long-standing funeral home websites. Sure gives me pause -- particularly when I read the ages!

  9. Happy Birthday, Myra! I do hope you are able to check off the bucket list in 2024, or soon thereafter. It's quite a list, and of course I do hope that a trip to Florida is in the top 10. Would so love to meet you face to face and feel your warm embrace! My bucket list is pretty small. I just take it one day at a time and pray we can make it safely through each one. I'd love to do some traveling too, but hubby isn't crazy about it and I won't go alone or without him, so there you have it. I am content to sit here in my own backyard and watch the birds on Still Waters Pond, and dream a little dream with you and the rest of our friends in Blogland. If God makes it possible for us to take a little trip somewhere, so be it. And if not, well, I'm not complaining. We are healthy (for the most part) and able to enjoy what God has blessed us with here, so that is fine with me. I do hope you make it to Florida, however. LOL. Happy Happy Birthday my friend!!

  10. First of all, I'm praying for Tom's health and for yours and the happiness of both of you.

Happy Birthday, Mevely. Wishing you many more full of God's blessings.

Did you mean Southampton UK? That's a very long distance from me, so if you give me plenty of warning I'll try to get there. Or perhaps we can meet somewhere mid-way. The UK is so big it takes me ages to even get to the shops for our weekly purchases. By the time I get there it is next week.

    God bless.

    1. Thank you, Victor! Yes, I think Southhampton (UK) is what the Cunard line uses. I've just begun studying offerings, but would want to spend several days in and about the UK before 'rewinding' home. (No, I won't fly.) I just don't know if that's probable in the next 9 months ... stay tuned!

  15. Ohhhh, I would dearly love to visit the UK. Steve and I both are descendants of many from the British Isles. Be careful, though, they are arresting Christian's for simply praying or witnessing or "acting" Christian. For real. Watch Neil Oliver on YouTube (free). He shares the news from over there. They have totally slipped outta gear in the being rational spectrum. I pray for the Christians living there.
I keep hoping we can return to the Birmingham area. I want to go back to the Barber Motorcycle Museum. Such a fun visit. Alabama is one of my favorite States. After my dear new home State of Georgia, Texas is my absolute fav. Can't get enough of visiting there.
We eat keto too. It's wonderful having better health. I'm seldom sick anymore and have lost gobs of fat. I never knew that sugar is akin to poison. The properties work like cyanide (per Doctors report). People are sicker than ever and it's all because that sugar is in nearly everything. What an eye opener! Wow.
    Blessings. 💙

    1. Let's go! Actually, I've a dear blog friend (Victor at Time for Reflections) who mostly authors a Christian blog in the UK -- the stuff he tells of going on there make me so sad. Satan is walking freely and no-one's paying attention.
I love 'rubbing shoulders' in Blogland with like-minded folks!

    3. The comment you left on Victor's blog about the Library ... Oh my, that's happened here in our little 'burg (Pierce Co, GA)!!!!! Our Community was SHOCKED and outraged! Must be the same inappropriate content. That person got fired, for sure. We've moved on to other subjects but ... STILL!!?? This mess is everywhere.
Satan is definitely laughing with delight as he tears apart all our lives. Such wickedness.
I pray often that the Lord Jesus will take us out of the way soon. We've made a muddle of His garden.
Blessings Sister in Christ. 💙 Keep praying!

  16. Love your Bucket List and Happy Birthday!!!
Life does go on and we have to make adjustments. But dreaming is a wonderful way to go.
We love to travel but I think those days are over for us..No money and getting too old make it more difficult. Its not stopping us from having the best lives possible Right Now. Love our family and friends.

  17. Happy Birthday! I'm just a few days too late! I like your list! I keep thinking it would be fun to find all of the women (maybe men, too) bloggers that live within a two hour drive of Birmingham and getting everyone to meet for lunch!

  18. I know you had a great birthday and your kids knew the best gift of all! We like what we like right? Amen! I stand up for myself and most of the time I stand alone. Hannah & Rebekah ganged up on me at our trip. Well, I took myself to the bedroom, had my dinner there and the next day they were both better behaved. I just can not remember being so wicked to my own mom. But my DIL Brittany is usually on my side. she loves her own mom to pieces.
