Then, an e-mail from the buyer. Sometimes you meet the nicest people in the most unexpected ways!
The co-author of a historical fiction podcast (gibsongirlreview.com), she wrote, "The new podcast is about a book from 1892 that features a little girl and a doll. Your grandmother's doll is now safely and proudly displayed in my collection."
Whaddya know!
Speaking of antiquities
Big thanks to Latane for suggesting I research the origins of the painting I showed in my last post.
Gotta love the Lens app! In a matter of seconds it identified "Caroline" as a painting done in 1788 titled "Age of Innocence."
Next, I snapped a picture of the 'men on a bench' and learned it was done by a Birmingham dentist-turned artist. Judging from their attire, I was guessing the '30's, but no. He called his 1975 work, "The Best of People."
Personally, I'm thinking "Watching All the Girls Go By."
Or, how about "Social Media before Facebook."
Looking forward
Day after tomorrow I get my second eye surgery.
Unbelievable the difference in my vision. I used to wonder if the next step was a seeing eye dog, but now I'm almost ready to throw away my glasses.
Disappointed
In spite of my aversion to crowds, I was so looking forward to seeing Casting Crowns in concert Saturday.
They were great!
.....Not so much the two introductory acts. Then, during intermission, there was a 'pastor' who strong-armed a charity like a bad used car salesman. I've seen more subtle time share sales.
If I ever talk about wanting to attend another big-name concert, will one of y'all kick me where it counts?
Okay, before I head out to Bible study ... how about a smile.
Current status
I loved those underwear/panties!! I also loved the names you shared for the pictures, made me laugh. Sight is so much better after eye surgery, had mine several years ago.

DeleteI'm so glad your first surgery went well. Isn't it amazing ! I love my new eyes and only have to use reading glasses now for fine print. It's nice you found out the information on the picture you admire and someone who will treasure the doll. They say someone's trash is another's treasure. Love, ma

Sandie, the app is soooo simple. I think the first thing I used it for was to identify this weird bug on my window.

ReplyDeleteI always wanted those days of the week panties when I was a kid, but my mother would not let us have them because Saturday was black and Mom thought no child should wear black underwear.
I can't remember what colors were in my set of panties -- but wish someone would bring them back into vogue for us 'big kids.'

DeleteOkay, now I am coming back to this post after going over to read your previous post that you referenced in this one. I had to see the painting.."the Age of Innocence". I do hope you will keep it. It's very special. So glad you are doing well with your eye surgery, etc. Oh, that china doll...and the collage of items the new owner created with her...how very very special!! She is a beautiful little doll, and I am glad she will be featured in that lady's podcast. I may have to check that out. Sounds interesting. Oh, the panties...what a fun thought to have them now! LOL. I would never be able to keep them in order, however. That is just a bit too OCD. LOL. I loved this post and the previous one about the china, etc. I LOVE that china!! As I said there, I do hope you will USE it and not just put it away. It was meant to be used and loved. Okay, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. bye for now. Praying for your next surgery.

DeleteWe had prayed about your eye surgery. We pray for you and Tom daily. No one is immune to pray and once had a gal say to my friend, pray for someone who needs it honey. I don't! Oh boy! Love your stories. I was reviewing an old blog post from Charlotte Ditmore. Goodness, I have known her here for many years. Never remembered she made dolls. Sigh....They were beautiful too. I love all my dolls. Noelle is the caregiver of Josie, born 1908 according to Uncle Louie who said his mom bought the doll for him. Perhaps she thought he might be a girl. The Lens app sounds great. You know me clueless with technology. hahaha Have a blessed weekend.
