Good morning friends,
Normally right about now I'd be getting ready for church, but.
Because my weather radio kept going off in the early hours, I've had little sleep. My nerves are shot, probably in part due to what happened in Mississippi. We're still under a tornado watch, but the rest of the household is sound asleep .....and I feel like chatting.
We enjoyed such a low-key few days at Jordan Lake!
I'm sure there are newer, more modern accommodations to be had -- but I think, one would have to go a long way to find a more congenial and accommodating host. Ray's 1954 fishing cabin was so cozy! Outfitted into a duplex -- he and Jaws live on the top floor, while we 4 had the bottom apartment and deck to ourselves.
Jaws, you ask? A Belgian Malinois, Jaws is a retired police K9. I was smitten! Ray has trained 18 such dogs -- but asked when Jaws finished his duty, he be returned. Magnificent!
I wanted so badly to meet him, but no offer was forthcoming -- and frankly, our girls were pretty freaked out.
Tom had no live bait (nor fishing license), but spent hours down on the dock 'playing' with his fishing reels and creepy lures.
I read and tried to learn Anti-Wordle. (At first I thought that was a joke, but no.)
Despite being chilled to the bone on Day #1, our girls enjoyed hanging out on the deck -- mesmerized by the wild geese, cranes and occupants of 'Goat Island.'
Lake Therapy's really a thing!
So, #1's 'New to Me' weekly experience is in the books. Now, to identify a #2 (of 52) -- that doesn't involve assault and battery.
Okay, I'm kidding. But our flooring project hasn't come without challenges. Tuesday morning the installers showed up an hour early -- with no clue. Scary. One pointed to the kitchen and asked if they should start in there. (Noooooooooo!!!) Then, "no-one told us we'd have to move the furniture or pull up the carpet." I thought Tom might implode.
A call to the boss and everything worked out. Sort of. I'm not happy with the juncture between the kitchen and dining room, but their boss is supposed to come out next week to take a look.
Praying he'll make things right without more hassle. This place has been a stand-up retailer for years. I just loathe dealing with contractors.
Okay, another cup of coffee then I need to get busy. There's tile dust everywhere (yuck), but I'm sure it will all be worth it. Fingers crossed!

So glad your cabin retreat went well, Myra. It looks like a beautiful location and a great place to simply relax. And yes, stay safe from all these crazy, deadly storms. Springtime in the South is almost as full of them as it is flowers. Praying for those who didn't make it through the latest round.

ReplyDeleteIt is always a hassle when we have workers in the house. I hate it so much. Especially when they arrive and then say they have no special tools or equipments or parts. They dismantle the appliance (e.g. water heater) and then leave you waiting until the one they ordered arrives.
Hope your work is soon done to perfection. You'll enjoy the end result.

Deletei am a believe in lake therapy/ocean therapy or any body of water that has no people in sight. yours fits my criteria and that porch I WANt IT... its a beautiful place and I would love it. My friend here, worked with her for years, has 3 Malnois, all trained but not police dogs. She had 2 and loved them so much when one of the two died last year, she got a puppy but took her sister with her and they came home with one each. they own a house together and have 2 pits 3 malino and a mutt and 8 cats. woo hooo
ReplyDeleteso glad you are safe enough to post this. I fretted about you and my family too. that floor is a big fat NO and I am not there. what the heck were they thinking. i would complain until it is fixed. for petes sake, to repeat myself, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.

DeleteWe have been wanting to put new floors in our bedroom and bath, but we keep putting it off because of the hassle that might come with it. {{sigh}} I guess we're going to have to 'bite the bullet' to get it done. Time spent at a lake house, oh that sounds wonderful. Good to hear you had a good time.

DeleteYears ago most companies hired their own installers, which meant they paid their salary and had control over the entire job. Now most installers are independent contractors.

DeleteI don't know what's worse - - being under a Tornado Watch or dealing with contractors. I think it's a toss-up. Shredded nerves abound.

We spotted one, but mostly cranes and geese.
DeleteI'm so glad you were able to weather the storms safely, and pray that is still the case. It appears they aren't over yet. So heartbreaking what has been happening. I've been praying for you as I saw it coming too close for comfort. Looks like you were staying in such a lovely place. Great idea. Now, who said you had to remove carpet and move furniture? That's just not right. That should be a part of the deal. It was for us. All I had to do was pack everything and get that out of the way, but they did all the rest. I hope everything comes together and you enjoy your new floors immensely. Don't overdo it. And stay safe, okay???
ReplyDeleteNo, them moving the furniture and pulling up the carpet was part of the contract. They claimed no-one told them, but in the end they did it.
DeleteYour vay cay sounds relaxing and ideal for a quiet time. I would want to meet the Malinois K-9 too, they are so intelligent to be chosen for that work.

DeleteOh the lake trip sounded so nice and just what the two of you needed. You two dogs looked so content just looking out to the lake. I have never been to a place like that. I am sorry about your floor - I can't see too well - but it doesn't look right to me. I hope they fix it.

DeleteI'm sorry you didn't get to meet Jaws. I would have been bold and asked! LOL The lake retreat looks beautiful. I am glad we have handymen here in our community that will do work. I'm getting real close to new floors, starting in the guest bedrooms. I want the luxury vinyl and that means pulling up hardwood in my living area. It is skinny boards and there is too much yellow (you might recall). I'm hoping one of three guys who can do that kind of work will do it one room at a time so I don't have to move out! We'll see. I'm looking forward to seeing yours when done and hearing more about the process!! Love ya!

ReplyDeleteWhen Mark and I were dating and newlyweds, his aunt and uncle had an A-frame cabin on Lake Jordan and we went down there frequently. I'm so glad you got away for some lake therapy! I'm so sorry you are having difficulties with the flooring -- I hope it gets resolved quickly!!
