Reading anything good lately? How about magazines? Do you buy any?
I'm currently enjoying a Jonathan Kellerman audio book. Love his 'turns of a phrase' -- sometimes more so than the actual story line!
I used to subscribe to Good Housekeeping and Readers Digest but haven't picked up a magazine in years.
Do you belong to any clubs, societies, or do you meet with friends regularly to chat?
I recently quit the Lions Club -- basically it was little more than a networking opp for members' businesses.
My BF and I make it a point to tele-chat once each month. (Had a text last night, she's feeling much better -- thank you for the prayers!)
The very best chats are those I look forward to every day, right here in Blogland.
Where are you from originally, and if you moved, why did you move?
Born in Minneapolis ..... moved to New Mexico 2 years later. At 18 I left to attend college in Abilene, Texas. When my husband lost his job (1988) we moved near family in Florida.
After a series of unfortunate events (rueful smile) and my mother's decline, I wanted a fresh start and ran away to Arizona. All I gotta say is 'Thank God' for second chances. At the risk of losing both my mental and physical health, 15 years later I decided Happiness was seeing Phoenix in my rear view mirror.
Tom might not (yet) love Alabama like I do -- but I'm happy he came along for the ride.

Interesting, and fun, answers today, Myra. I'm not a big fan of Westerns, but Fox Nation is currently streaming some Clint Eastwood movies, so I think I'll check it out.

DeleteGrin, your Tom is a lot like me...Look, I love living here in NY, but I can not really like the politics. I hated Alabama, well, not the state but the weather and tornadoes. Hubby, "Why is it you want to go back, tell me again." He refuses...so here we are...and for the record, I want to stop running away, but I get this way. sigh. My mom always said I had gypsy blood, maybe she is right, LOL.

DeleteMy best chats are with my friends like you on blogger. I so appreciate your kind thoughts and prayers too. I used to watch a lot of cowboy movies on tv when I was young. We watched Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. I always thought it would be fun to ride a horse, but every time I tried to ride one, it always went back to the barn. I never mode move like you have from state to state, but have moved right here in my own town, I found the perfect retirement home for me and hope I don't ever have to move again. This is my happy place.

ReplyDeleteI used to like Westerns, although now they are somewhat predictable. The best cowboys were John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. I don't think they have ever made a film together. Don't forget Gary Cooper and James Stewart. Lee Marvin. Chuck Connors (Branded). James Garner (Support your local Sheriff, Maverick). Ha ... you forgot Roy Rogers. Alan Ladd and Robert Mitchum.
I'm going to spend all day thinking of Westerns. The High Chaparral, Bonanza ... and of course McCloud with Denis Weaver.
You've given me a headache thinking back to all my favourite Westerns.

ReplyDeleteI've always been fascinated with the old west, but never was much of a western movie fan. The fictitious Hollywood west was far removed from reality.
Wow, I haven't looked at a "real" magazine in a very long time. The Internet has rendered them passe (unfortunately). The Internet thwarted my long-ago "career" as a freelance writer.
I've never belonged to any club or society......although some liberals have occasionally called me a Nazi.

I know, right? (About the fence.) Forgot to mention, another favorite 'star' was Rin-Tin-Tin.
DeleteToday's print media seems to be 90% advertisements. I forgot those in doctors' waiting rooms, but no-one dares lick their fingers to turn pages anymore.
I remember when some group sold mag subscriptions for school or work. No t sure. We would subscribe then. I get two mags now and seldom look at them. They are more ads than real stuff, even my vets mag.
ReplyDeleteI have left great authors and now read mostly westerns. I think I like predictable endings. LOL I believe I liked ALL western actors, all those that Victor named (and I could not), but yep Clint Eastwood stands out along with my hero John.

Yes, I remember subscribing to this or that on behalf of the Scouts. Who can 'no' to a kid?! Tom keeps a subscription to AMA Model Aircraft magazine -- and actually enjoys the advertisements. LOL.
DeleteI was IN Love with Clint Eastwood and Rowdy. ha ha. I viewed every western he ever made, many times. but can't watch them now. I love all thigs Western and always wanted to live in The West, AZ would count.
ReplyDeleteI ran away from Savannah GA which is where i was born, ran to FL which is where I always wanted to live other than on a ranch in The West.. Happy I ran also... I was a lover of all TV shows that had cowboys in them and the Marlboro Man was and is still my favorite cowboy.
Me, too ... as a youngster, that is. While the other girls were playing with their dolls, I was sprawled on the floor with my plastic cowboys and horses.
DeletePS I read every Western every written by L Lamour and Zane Grey before I was out of high school. and any other western I could find in book form, while others went to foot ball games and parties and proms, i shut myself in my bedroom with cowboys

DeleteI enjoyed your answers. WE grew up in the same era and saw the same westerns I am sure. And your friend Victor named a lot of great western stars that I also loved. They just don't make good westerns now. You have moved a lot, but I know I would have everyone beat if I listed them all, so I won't. People just wouldn't understand, but every move had a good reason and was a part of God's plan. I am thankful for the good friends we have here in blogland and look forward to our regular repartee'. DeleteWe watch lots of Westerns. Lately though, I have been watching In The Heat of the Night. I think if people saw those old series they would not zero to be looking for "racism" in everything others do or say. I am happy your friend is doing so well. Lots of prayer helps all os uf. WHy do I forget to do these Tuesday blog hops? I have been preoccupied with smoothies.Today I had kale and frozen pineapple with almond milk . I've been experiemnting for healthier versions. The kale is not my favorite, spinach seems to blend better. I love all your answers. My sweetheart moved to plots of places when he was young. SLC, KC, Las Vegas. He was a traveling man. But I am a Colorado girl and love my state, just not the politics. I moved 2 hours form my hometown years ago and we have lived in a few places, Denver, Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton, Northglenn. That magazine cover is a bit strange. lol I still get Bon Appetit and Tea Time. ALso 5280 and GHK although I keep telling GHK and BGH to stop sending me magazines as I do not want them anymore.
