It must have been hard to see the number of folks lined up behind me, impatient to check-out. Twice you called for a price check, but no-one responded. Rather than getting flustered, you took ownership: "How about I give you these for the price of the xxxxx?"

Dear Richard,
Following Sue's surgery last week, she was in a significant amount of pain. By all accounts you're a wonderful husband -- but being 99% blind some things are insurmountable: For example, 2 prescriptions, Which is which?
When you called your mother to ask if she had any rubber bands, Gran-Gran was, "What? Why?" Then, a light bulb moment. You put a rubber band around the pain bottle so as not to mix it up with the antibiotic.
Now I'm thinking that's a great idea for anyone who doesn't have their eyeglasses at the ready ... or, who needs to take a pill in the middle of the night without turning on the lights.
Dear Amazon Prime -
Our UPS driver probably appreciates not having to stop here so often!
Dearest lady who lives in my old house,
I was so excited to see your e-mail! I'm not ashamed to say my eyes began to fill with salt water.
You wrote,
"Hi Myra! My name is xxxxxx and I live in the Arlington house! We bought it in 1998 and I'll be glad to send you some pictures."
Then, "I understand your attachment to things of the past; I'm right there with you!"
A few days later, another e-mail:
"Hi Myra! Oh my goodness, how fun to see the pictures you sent! I can't wait to show them to my family! I'm so glad you reached out and took a shot on this!"
Isn't hers the most generous spirit?

I like a 'thinking' cashier. I also like these entries, but What you fell out of love with Prime? (I'm in the middle of a quandary myownself! LOL)

I never thought of the rubber band thing but I WILL remember it for many things. Yep that lights a bulb in my head...

Thanks, Jack! Why the break up with Prime? They used to promise 1-2 day delivery, but now we're fortunate to get it on Day #3. That's what one gets for living out in the sticks, I guess. (Oh, plus we don't avail ourselves of the other bennies.)
DeleteNice trip down memory lane, Mevely. I often wonder how the houses I lived in back then have been changed by their present owners. But never got the courage to write to them. Also ... how would I react if someone wrote to me out of the blue requesting photos of the house where I live now. How would I react?
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether this is a UK thing. Would we in the UK be as kind as the person who sent you photos of your home?
You know, you could be on a train or bus in the UK, and be on a long trip, and no one would speak to you. I doubt UK people would respond to a letter seeking photos. Just guessing.

Good point. My son and I were talking about the very same thing this afternoon. Personally, I'd be reluctant; but I'm so grateful she understood my request.

Ingenious too with Richard and the medicine to distinguish between the two with a rubber band. Smart thinking for sure!

DeleteWow! Those pictures of then and now...amazing transformation! And to think how much we loved those harvest gold appliances and wallpaper back then in the 70's! We all had them...at one time I had a gold refrigerator and an avocado green stove! And wallpaper that matched them both. So happy the new homeowners were understanding and very kind!! I loved all the other stuff you wrote about too...we don't do Prime either. I can't afford the monthly fee because we don't use it that much. However, when I start Christmas shopping I may renew it to get free shipping until I am done shopping. That works for me. Have a wonderful week. This was fun.

DeleteThe then and now photos are so touching, Myra, and the kindness of random strangers never ceases to amaze me. I recall when Danny and I took our blended family down to Jekyll Island years ago, we had the opportunity to visit the home in Brunswick, GA, where he grew up during his teenage years. The couple who lived there graciously let him tour the house and share his memories with them. What a blessing that was for Danny, as I'm sure these contacts were for you.

Deletei am so glad she sent you the now pics. it was perfect when you lived there and perfect for now. our 1979 fridge was bronze, the other color for those years. does this mean you cooked back then? ha ha.. i know that i would not send photos to a stranger, but glad she did. i wonder what the UK people would think of ME.. i talk to strangers every where i go, they might be in shock. i love the fireplace.. it is a lovely home. i would like to see the house we lived in for 2 years when I was 7 and 8th grade in KY. there is no address to write to. our address was name and the words Sloans Valley, ky talk about rural..

Unless amazon bans me from their site I may be spending more and more time buying everything there.The world is getting scary day by day. I was thinking bout the 1/3 of Americans who believe the holocaust never happened. They are in for a huge awakening. I like people who take initiative. I smile at them. You have some excellent posts. I have been going back to comment on many of Sean's posts. It is quite sad what they are experiencing but Mary will be in the arms of Jesus, and I like to remember that abour loved ones I have lost.
