Ever since 25 year-old me enrolled in a self-help seminar, I've been curious to learn what makes me tick. Tho' the 'Silva Mind Control' weekend was entertaining, I don't recall taking its lessons to heart.
While I was never into astrology or numerology, I was intrigued by the idea of self-discovery and (probable) success. Right....
From Zig Ziglar to Tony Robbins, I bought their books and tapes, and took part in seminars. Oh, the mind was willing but my 'get-r-done' weak.
Then a few years ago I participated in a workplace exercise, Emergenetics.
"Predictable." They actually said, 'predictable." Disappointed, I resisted the notion of owning one's own results.
Fast-forward to this morning.
One of my study group pals piqued my interest when she posted something about her Enneagram profile. I want to play!
So, I took the little personality test, not unlike Myers-Briggs.
Yowsa. I was more than a little miffed to be labeled a #6 -- grouped with the likes of Sigmund Freud, Richard Nixon and Michael Moore.
I took it again, varying my responses here and there.
Nope. Still a #6.
After reading in more detail, I have to admit -- they nailed me.

DeleteWhen I studied the Enneagram years ago I had trouble deciding if I was a 6 or a 9. I'm a 6. I was a Peacemaker as a kid, but now I expect things to go wrong and am great at making contingency plans. I don't worry because I have faith in my ability to cope.

DeleteI tool old Zig to heart. Just his tapes. I think they did me a world of good and I set my mind to a business, stuck with his ideas and I think reached my peak, When about to get in over my head (too stubborn to get an attorney, gonna do this MY WAY) I stumbled several times trying to do a subdivision, realized I had to turn the reins over to attornies (and pay 'em) Sherry said lets retire, We did. I read the #6/#9 Imma not trying the game YET, but I think I wwould fall there. I hated to FIRE anyone as a boss, I wanted to make it work. LOL not always possible.

DeleteYears ago I took this with other managers at work and my highest number was 9 - the Peacemaker. I just took it and my highest number was #1, perfectionist, with a close #8, challenger, and also close #2, the giver. Interesting! I don't really think of myself as a perfectionist.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, indeed! I recently took the Myers-Briggs test again to see if, post-retirement, I'd changed. Nope. Still ISFJ.
DeleteI believe I took the Myers-Briggs test years ago when I worked in London. Or such other similar test. If I remember right they said I did not care about what people think of me. Too individualist. Something about my sense of humour.
ReplyDeleteI would not take what these tests say too seriously. Just ask yourself: On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do I like being me. That's where you'll find contentment, Mevely.
My guess is most of your readers would score you highly. That's why they keep returning to your Blog.

DeleteI must be a skeptic because I am skeptical of taking such a test! LOL. Plus, I am careful about what I share online as they already know too much about me and they don't need anymore information! LOL. But I know it is all in good fun. I think I usually have shown up in those kinds of tests as being a bit too headstrong...or something like that. I'm trying to tone it down in my "old age".

DeleteI took that enneagram test a while back, and it said I was a #2 for the most part. Still, it was too fluid for me to feel satisfied with the results. I think I'll just stick with being a child of God.

DeleteI love Zig Ziglar and other motivational speakers but I think that of all the classes I've taken, my Bible studies have done more for me than any of them. There are so many ways to judge our personalities, but we should basically accept who we are... alll incredible unique creations.
