..... of opposites!
So this morning we had to be at the V.A. by 7:30. Tho' we're less than 20 mi. away, our commute involves two major freeways.
I initially propose we leave at 6:30 -- then concede. 6:45 it is!
6:35 Tom's still in the bath. 6:40 I starting pacing.
6:50 wheels up!
Then, "Do you have your mask?" Aaaargh!
Well, go figure. We pull in the VA lot with 15 minutes to spare. Color me, feeling foolish. Again.
So I sat outside with my water bottle, e-reader and 3 fun-size Butterfingers -- writing this post and praying I wouldn't have to use the bathroom.

I always like to be there early rather than on time. In fact, when I have to go to a place I have not been to before, I usually go there the day before to find out where the place is, where to park, and how to get there. It is annoying when the place is millions of miles away. I drive there the whole day. Get back home the whole night. Then have to go there again on the appointed day of the appointment.
ReplyDeleteI seem to be spending my life driving there to find out where everything is before having to go there for real.
This happens also for short journeys. I once arrived at reception in a big office block. Took the elevator to the 31st floor to check where my interview was. Then got down to reception, only to be told to go up again like a yo yo.
Same with going upstairs to the bedroom. My wife is fed up with it!!!

DeleteYes, waiting for someone having an appointment can be a challenge if we don't have access to a bathroom. I'm relieved that when Andy gets his treatments for macular degeneration they will let me in for a quick trip now. It helps a lot.

DeleteWhat was Tom's secret for sleeping during the MRI? I've never had one but my anxiety is high just considering if I had to have one and feeling claustrophobic.
ReplyDeleteHubby and me are the "hurry up and wait" sort of people but son is one of those more relaxed individuals. He's getting better at it but he for awhile kept his gas tank at empty but knew exactly how many miles he could still go on the tank (freaks me out if we are below 1/4 of a tank).
I've been late not for an appointment but for work twice over the past 2 months (but not lately and only 5-10 minutes late). Both were car malfunctions (dead battery, flat tire). Drove me crazy being late. Supervisor could have cared less :)

I know, right? I was sure surprised. The previous one (in Arizona), he suffered a bad panic attack. They prescribed valium and had him come back the next day.

DeleteI like to be on time. Would rather wait than be late. I like people to be on time when coming to dinner as well. When I say dinner will be at 1:00, that means you'd better be here ready to sit down and eat at 1:00 pm. Over the years I've learned that I'd better say 12:30 when I mean 1:00. Glad Tom slept through the MRI. I'm sure I would snore too, if I could sleep! LOL>
ReplyDeleteYep, I remember having to utilize that time trick. During my one (and only) MRI, I had to close my eyes so as not to see the bottom side of the lid closing.
DeleteI absolutely hate being late for anything, Myra, but I'm glad to hear that Tom did well at his appointment. Falling asleep??? Well, that's one way to make the time pass quicker. :)

Me, too! That's one of my biggest pet peeves. If I arrive somewhere early, I'm happy to lurk at a nearby lot. :)
DeleteI like to arrive early and I don't mind waiting as long as I have my phone, but I will definitely need access to a bathroom - I carry a lunchbox filled with water wherever I go, I drink at least a bottle an hour all day every day. So funny that Tom fell asleep in the MRI. I could do that too! :D

DeleteI have never been late for anything in my whole life. even when i had a flat tire. I am a hurry hurry hurry and wait person. even though i am a hate to wait person. as in I make early am appts because I can't stand to WAIT for the afternoon apts. I can tell a tale of being way to early.
ReplyDeletewe were invited to a New Years Eve party. it was about 12 miles away, party started at 8. we got their at 7:40 and had to drive around and around the neighborhood WAITING to go in on the nose of 8. the next people to get there were 8:30 and later.
so happy he slept through the MRI. the 2nd one bob had he swore he will never have another one. hope the results are good ones. you should hear Beau snore, in fact if you listen tonight about 6 pm you can probably here him from your house.
Thank you so much! My son said the same thing about his last MRI. At least they gave Tom a 'ball' to hold in his fist to push if he needed to stop.

DeleteIf I'm less than 15 minutes early, I feel like I am late. I freely admit to making up appointment times to get Joe moving. He is better than he used to be, though. We are lucky that some doctors are five minutes from home, others are 10 minutes away, and the VA takes only 15-20 minutes. No freeways unless we have to go into the VA in Tampa, which is rare. Glad Tom got through the MRI okay!! Happy Thanksgiving!!

ReplyDeleteThe "relaxed" moments in my life have seemingly been few and far between. I can't ever remember being late for an important appointment, but I'm always psychotically nervous...
ReplyDeleteAll turkeys will be thankful to know that I bought a ham for Thanksgiving this year. It just seemed easier to make.
