Dream Along with Me

Oh m'gosh, y'all.   Can you believe, Thanksgiving Day's but one week away?!

And what a Thanksgiving it's shaping up to be ..... or not.  We've been invited to my son's.  Then again, so have DIL's 4 siblings and their families.  Factor in Grandgirl #2 (aka, social butterfly) and Tom's on edge.   I don't know what to do .... you know?

Long-time readers may remember, the Thanksgivings of my youth weren't the norm.  Our being thousands of miles away from family, the long weekend was an excuse to drive up to Colorado -- a hotel in downtown Denver ... a dude ranch ... even a train ride to a newly-developed community called Breckenridge.  My father's only requisite:  Not being fond of turkey, he wanted to be able to order off the regular menu.

I can still hear him muse, "This year I think I'm going to be thankful for _________."  (fill in the blank)

Anyway!  What you say, we take a cue from Mr. C ...

That's right.  I'm hosting a virtual Thanksgiving!  Right here in Blogland.

Let's just pretend, okay? ...Nothing's impossible in our dreams.

So please, won't you share your fantasy Thanksgiving ......

What's atop the table?

... and who's around it?

Your home, or somewhere else?

How's the weather? Remember, nothing's impossible. (*grin*)

I'll share my own responses a little later in the comments.

Have a beauty-full day ... stay safe!

Hugs,
Myra

  1. Thanksgiving will be very low key here this year, Myra. Without the vaccine, Danny and I can't venture out anywhere, nor have folks over to our place. So sad, but I have faith for the future times when things will be back to normal, whatever that is.
    Blessings!

  2. I like how your family celebrated Thanksgiving Myra. A bit rogue if you know what I mean. But it worked, right?

My fantasy Thanksgiving (of course all dishes served have no calories whatsoever). Prime rib with horseradish, baked potato, asparagus, wedge salad, fresh baked rolls, strawberry cheesecake for dessert. Around the table are family members, and because its a fantasy Thanksgiving, parents and in laws are there too. What a great time we would have.

Reality Thanksgiving this year. We don't usually get together with son/family for the holidays. Its better that way because I usually plan something and it kind of falls apart so we celebrate earlier, not on the actual day. So we are celebrating Thanksgiving together (just 6 total) on Monday with take out Chinese food :)

  3. Fantasy dream: Singers that I could understand the words!!!!
    Fantasy Thanksgiving:
Mama's Dinner with our whole family around, including inlaws. There are 5 turkeys, already carved. Mama sitting and directing this time. Daddy's prayer, Sherry's mama's amen. Collards, mama's mac/cheese,hand broken and stringed green beans (mama directing), cabbage for those who don't like collards. Kids playing out back and eating after the adults....
Raality, We hope to have a dinner ordered and our sons here in Florida with us.
REality: I think I understand the feeling you have to the crowd of wonderful people....YES and NOT SO SURE. I think that is how I wouold feel anyway THIS YEAR!
Great idea and I am with Betty (even her fantasy dinner) but loving your dad & mom, because we can relate a little.
Love and HUGS to brother Tom...

I LOVE collards but wouldn't know how to begin making it/them. Thank you for day-dreaming along with me!

  4. On the table would be a big golden turkey, a spiral sliced ham and all the yummy traditional casseroles, cranberry sauce, and fresh baked rolls of course. There will also be pies, lots of pies! The whole family, immediate and extended, and friends would be gathered around my table. Of course my parents would still be around to be there too. The windows would be wide open, it would be a bright, sunny, 70 degree day. After dinner the guys would be out back tossing around the football. There would be board games, and sipping cocktails and great football games on TV. It would be a perfect Thanksgiving day!

In reality it will just be immediate family. We will still be social distancing and spending the afternoon outside. I'm just ordering some platters and calling it a day. At least we will be together :)

I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving whatever you decided to do. Be careful and stay safe!

  5. before I fantaize, this is ME, you know the one who says what she thinks. do not go to that dinner, it is better to miss one TG than to miss them by death of C-19... the tv is talking rght now, the virus is raging, it LOVES large groups of people. enough said, you asked I answered.
    here is my fantasty.
Turkey, Bob's potato stuffing, his mothers recipe, brusselsprouts, heavenly salad, sweet tater pie, ROLLS yeast kind ya know. this is actually what we have always had until about 5 years ago. since then we ate tg at golden corral. in my fantasy, the virus is gone and we could eat at GC or have it at home, with family... we could do this for us but I Hate to cook.

  6. I'm dreaming of a bright sunny day with warmer weather as our Thanksgiving will be outside this year in an effort to keep everyone at a safe distance. I think it''s a great idea to host Thanksgiving on blogger, we're such a wonderful group I'm sure we''ll all have fun !

  7. We still don't know how the chips will fall when it comes to Thanksgiving. Still waiting to hear the results of our daughter's covid test. If she and her hubby are negative we will probably have dinner with them and their kids. I don't know if Mom and my stepdad will join us even if we have the all clear. Our son...still haven't heard a word from him. So I guess my fantasy Thanksgiving would be anywhere with any food as long as we were all together. Who'd have thunk it would come to that?

  8. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK (I think we should). However, I can foresee a very low key Christmas this year. I guess we'll all be in our own homes and send e-mail messages and video links.

This said, we have a lot to be thankful for, Mevely. We should maintain our hope and trust in God.

May He bless you and your family always, my friend.

    1. Amen! I would love to hear about your traditional Christmas celebrations sometime.

    2. In the UK Christmas day is traditionally spent with the family (extended family) and friends. We usually go to midnight Mass on the 24th (starts at about 11.00pm with carols singing and readings).

The traditional UK Christmas meal is turkey, sausages wrapped in bacon, Brussels sprouts, roast potatoes, carrots and Christmas pudding for dessert with Brandy sauce. Other variations include beef, pork, lamb or even goose for certain people. Goose tastes like chicken, but then everything does, including chicken.

The table is decorated including Christmas crackers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_cracker

The Queen broadcasts her message to the nation at 3:00pm.

At our home we usually play board games like Monopoly and Scrabble. It is easier to win if you have a Guinness in hand.

Oh ... don't forget the Christmas TV films: It's a wonderful life, Miracle on 34th Street, and sometimes The Sound of Music ... or me snoring.

      God bless, Mevely.

    3. Now you're making me hungry! (*smile*) I'll never forget the year my (former) hubby tried making a goose for my father. Oh m'gosh the grease. Everywhere.
Thank you so much for sharing a glimpse of your Christmas across the pond!

  9. My fantasy Thanksgiving would be back at my home I grew up in with my parents still alive and well, as well as all my siblings, their families, but most of all my whole family together...especially our son who is now in heaven, along with his sweet family and our only grandson. We would have turkey with all the trimmings of course, and my mother's pies, which were always the very best. Oh, and better yet, I'd love to have both sets of my grandparents there and all of their families/grandchildren too...which would be all my cousins that I never see. I guess this would have to be a very big table and place. My parents' home wasn't that big, but if we spread outside and have tables all out under the trees, or somewhere at a cabin...Oh, my grandparents' cabin in PA. Now I'm really fantasizing! But you asked for it. Maybe we will have this special feast one day in heaven. Until then, I'll be happy with whomever wants to come next Thursday.

  10. I have posted on social media that I think this fear mongering has to stop, period. Folks, enjoy your families and friends. Way to many folks have died lonely or are thinking of suicide because of these mandates--folks, their not laws, LIVE PEOPLE---see and hug your families and friends, I don't know how high I can shout this. Covid is 99% curable. Ok, stepping off the block now...now listen to me...not all families get along. So get together with friends and enjoy the holidays. Life is way short.

Thanksgivings have always been us 3--I would love to have a big family/friends gathering etc...that would be my fantasy. Wouldn't it be grand to get all blogging friends together? smiles

  11. My fantasy Thanksgiving?
A brisk day with light snowfall. A bright, cozy fireplace crackling indoors. The table has an abundant array of all good food, turkey, ham, wild duck, herbal stuffing, candied yams, assorted vegetables and fruit, cornbread, cranberry jelly, muffins, pies, cakes....

But most important are the guests - - all the many people that I loved who are now gone. I want them all back together again.

I'm yearning for the golden days that have passed and will never return...

  13. We never celebrate Thanksgiving, but I do give thanks all the time. I'm afraid I'm already living my dream life right now. Our lifestyle hasn't been affected much by the virus so 2020 has been a rich and joyful year for me. I've always realized how short and precious life is, so I'm not about to waste it worrying.

  15. As promised, here's mine.
But first, a BIG thanks to all of you who've participated!
My fantasy Thanksgiving would take place in a mountain lodge -- some place with an enormous stone fireplace and accommodating staff. A crisp, clear day with dry powdery snow all about.
I'll begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres -- raw oysters on the half shell for my dad and Troy, prawns for mother, escargot in garlic butter for me. (There being no fixe menu, everyone can order what he/she likes.) My entree? Salmon, or a nice Rib-eye, medium rare and charred on the outside. A simple side of creamed spinach. We'll have cheesecake bites for dessert and brandy for those who'd like to retire to the fireplace. Congenial (unnamed) guests and easy conversation.
Sorry, no cranberry and NO talk of politics.

  16. I would love having Joey & Darlene, Jeff & Kali, Lauren, Tristan and his girlfriend, Maddie... at the least. Throw in any of the brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews... Thirty for dinner would be fine with me. I miss those big, noisy family get-togethers! There will be four of us this year.

  17. That is a hard decision to make. If you wear masks and social distance it could work out. We had decided not to go to Adam and Gabby's because of their so called "bubble" but now the bubble has been exposed. We are heading to Arizona to my sister in law's house. They are isolated like we are and extremely careful and we should all be safe together, just the 4 of us.

My entire family would be around the table. We would have turkey, dressing, gravy, rolls, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole and baked sweet potatoes along with some white wine.

  18. My dream Thanksgiving would be to go back in time with my parents hosting and a group of relatives that would fill the house. We'd help cook for days...the turkey, ham, cold cuts, two kinds of dressing (stuffing), cranberry salads, potatoes, gravy, yams, rolls, Cole slaw, wines, egg nog, 3 kinds of pies, After eating, we, hike in our mountains, play football if not snowing, WATCH football, play cards with the kids...eat more. Before they all left in the evening, we'd draw a name from dad's hat and play secret Santa for that name when Christmas arrived and we'd eat again!!! lol

    1. I always wished for the opportunity to participate in a Secret Santa exchange. (Never happened.) The season's first glass of egg nog was the best! Still is!
