How do you define peace?
Right now, a respite from those intrusive and ugly political advertisements and text messages.
November 3 is Election Day in the USA ... but did you know it's also National Sandwich Day? Let's vote, shall we? Egg salad or tuna salad? Chicken salad or grilled chicken on a bun? Peanut butter and jelly or a bagel with cream cheese? Turkey and swiss or ham and cheddar? Grilled cheese or pimento cheese? Roast beef, corned beef, or make mine veggie?
I've highlighted my choices.
Smiling, thinking of the petrified chicken breast I overcooked Sunday afternoon... still waiting to be made into chicken salad.

When did you last say (or feel) 'no rest for the weary'?
Good grief, I'd have to travel back to 2000. Working for the tax partner at a CPA firm in downtown St. Petersburg, we logged some insane hours.
Rather than making her usual 60-minute commute, my boss actually slept in the back of her SUV in the parking garage! The days leading to April 15, I'd just come home and collapse for a few hours on the couch, so as not to waste time making the bed the next morning.
I even took my laundry to this sweet attendant at a laundromat ... later embarrassed to realize she'd even taken the time to carefully fold my underwear.
This time last year, where were you?
Right here, feeling relieved to have just tendered my resignation at the funeral home.
I've always prided myself on going the extra mile for my employers. But what I'd hoped would be a pleasant part-time diversion was unbearably stressful. I felt I was trying to sprint up the down escalator. It's given me a whole new appreciation for retirement!

DeleteWEll I have ALWAYS been a sandwich guy. I could eat an egg sandwich for breakfast, a tomato sandwich for lunch and a deviled egg or ham sandwich for super. My favorite sandwich is plain tomato, mayo and loaf bread.

DeleteStill laughing out loud at the last joke and it's not a joke I think it's true haha! My last horrid memory was from 2001 after 9/11 when all hell broke loose at the business hours in and we went through the end of year taxes and on into April from the time it happened in September until the next year in September that turned our company upside down and we work 10 and 12 and 14 hours a day. There really was no rest for the weary. I sometimes make that comment but it doesn't fit I just say it!

DeleteThat random had me giggling! For the sandwiches... all the above except for PB&J. REST for the weary...guess my life has been sheltered, I can't remember when, but know I've said it...instead of sheltered, maybe it's a rock I live under.

Deletei'm very glad it's over and will be happy to get back to a little normal. All those ads were driving me crazy. Both on TV and in the mail. I vote for Chicken Salad for the sandwich it's a favorite of mine !

DeleteThat last little ditty made me giggle! Being married to a CPA, I can relate to those long hours leading up to April 15th! Even his small practice got crazy during those last few weeks. I like all the sandwiches mentioned, but I am not a picky eater (except for oysters, okra, and snails). Happy Wednesday! xo

Actually, I love any kind of sandwich and could easily consume them every day. This week I've been eating Black Forest ham and salami sandwiches, with tomatoes.
Petrified chicken breast sandwiches don't appeal to me...
BTW, I haven't heard that Eagles song in a long time. Wish I could bring back those days again.

DeleteI feel like we don't have a lot of trust in the media, the election processes, journalists, etc, and it's becoming so difficult to find actual facts. I love the graphic at the end : )

DeleteVery interesting post. I hope you can rescue the petrified chicken into a good chicken salad...I hate it when that happens. And you really should try a "mater sandwich", with mayo, of course. I prefer mine on toast as the bread gets too gummy otherwise. hate gummy bread that sticks to my teeth! LOL. I love PB and Banana sandwiches, as long as the bananas aren't too ripe. Thankfully, I never worked a job where I had to work extra long hours, but the job I had as a Church Administrator/Finance Director was stressful enough. You'd think a church would be all peaceful and full of joy and blessings...but not necessarily so...especially when you have to fire the custodian for drinking on the job or other difficult situations that one wouldn't expect to happen in a church...Yes, retirement is wonderful! Very thankful to sit by the pond and take pictures of birds and flowers. LOL. Have a blessed day and stay joyful no matter what the day brings...

DeleteGlad to vote in the sandwich election. My favorite, which I have at least three times a week, is peanut butter and jelly. If I'm feeling unusually indulgent I add a small bag of potato chips, and yes, I could be in the fourth grade. :)
