… or, should I say parolees?
I'm a little late getting started, but wanted to share a few updates. For those of you who follow me on Facebook, some of this might be 'old news' … but you can pretend otherwise. (*wink*)
Tom?
… Had his first video doctor's visit Thursday morning.
If Dr. Ahmed was handing out report cards, I suspect he'd have given Tom an A+. So thankful for his consistently good numbers and energy levels!
In fact, yesterday afternoon Tom asked me what I thought about him rebuilding the deck.
I don't know if you can see them clearly ...
but he bought new solar lights and has begun affixing them to the railing. Here's a better shot.

Macie Ann?
… is thankfully on the road to recovery!
Last week's tummy issues seemed to disappear on their own. Then a couple days ago it ricocheted. When, on Thursday morning she refused her favorite thing in the whole world ('Greenie'), after Tom's video call we packed her up and to the vets.
Because animal hospitals here still aren't allowing people inside, a tech came out to the car to collect Macie Ann and assured us her vet would call. (Yes, Tom and I were both wrecks.)
Good to his word, Dr. Sirmon called Thursday evening to say her preliminary test results looked good -- but he wanted to keep her on fluids and do another x-ray in the morning.
We were a little concerned how Grace would react when Macie didn't come home. Used to be, they couldn't stand to be apart.
Well, ha! Grace was strutting her tiny hiney all over the place, seemingly loving being an 'only' child.
So happy when we got the call yesterday to come get our big girl! The tech didn't come out and say it in so many words, but I'm thinking Macie Ann was a bit of a pill.
They sent along a 14-day supply of special (wet) food and two prescriptions. Of course, we Tom had to stop at PetSmart on the way home to buy Grace some wet food of her own. (That's his baby girl!) It's killing him not to share his 'people food' with them, but I'm playing the Mean Mommy card. They'll get over it. Right?

As a "mom" to a German Shepherd, the vet says NO PEOPLE FOOD! They can't digest it. I am always dismayed at folks who give table scraps...we lost a dog once who our fault-died from eating to many table scraps...never again. NOW, with that said, you can give them beef bones-the vet said that is ok (NOT CHICKEN BONES). Just so you know, I am not raving at either you or Tom...just keeping it real.
ReplyDeleteOH...we are still INMATES-week 8. No lie. It.has.gotten.old. Yesterday and today it has been in the high 60's. My son took a walk and once again, got stopped for NOT wearing a mask, never mind he has asthma and CAN NOT wear a mask. The power trips these police are on are something else.
Ok, enough rambling. Sigh...
Ya, absolutely NO chicken bones for any dog. Ever. Tom's not as bad as it sounds; he has trouble resisting those big brown eyes. :)
Deletelol...I get it, smiles. We had a dog that has these big brown eyes and I might have given him a French fry yesterday. Shh...it will be a secret. LOL

ReplyDeleteA HUGE congratulations to Tom (and you) for the great medical report. My fella got some good news this week, too, about his brain cancer. Most of it is GONE... and that which is remaining has grown smaller. Hopes are that it'll disappear before his next MRI in three month. Because of the pandemic, the treatments for his bladder cancer have been postponed again, but we're both flying high right now. It's been a long road, but we're starting to see the end... and I slept better the past two nights than I have in the past year. Woo HOO!!!!
I hope your fur baby gets to feeling better soon. I had to change our cats' diets, too, and they aren't too happy about it. I guess their aging systems change, too, because they can no longer tolerate the foods they've been eating for the past eleven years. The change to Blue dry food for sensitive tummies has made a huge difference.

Wow! That's the best news I've heard in a long time … congratulations to Smarticus AND his head cheerleader. Is your hubby's bladder cancer being treated with BCG? That's what Tom was given back in '05.

ReplyDeleteIt's good that Macie is getting better. I took our Staffordshire Terrier dog to the vet because he had a tummy ache. The vet picked him up and felt round his tummy. The dog's tummy, not the vet's own tummy! Although I'll admit she had a wonderful tummy. And the rest of her was good also. Great lungs.
Anyway, as I was saying before you distracted me. The vet picked the dog up and said “I’m going to have to put him down.”
I was distraught and beside myself. It was as if there were two of me. Me and the one beside myself.
“What? You’re going to put him down just because he has a tummy ache?” I said.
“No, because he is really, really heavy.” she replied.

DeleteI'm so glad Tom and Macie are both doing well. That is good news! Now, I'm just going to stare at that first photo for a while. I do so HATE that one of the things the changing weather patterns has brought to our area is days upon days of overcast, gray days.

DeletePoor Macie but glad that she is on the mend! How cute with the kit that came home with her from the vet's. I have sworn to myself that Winslow is not getting people food from me (at least). Koda had so much of it that he could hear the crinkle of a chip bag miles away LOL but I think it did cause some of his tummy problems that he had. I'll go and check out your friend's blog. Glad to hear Tom's report from the doctor was a great one!! He's as active as Jack is! Imagine getting the two of them together on a project!!!

Video doctor visits are a godsend. It saved you a lot of trouble and gave Tom some great news. I'm glad everything is okay - - but he should take it easy and keep work to a reasonable minimal.
Animal hospital car visits are another good idea. Relieved to hear that Macie Ann is doing well!

DeleteRelieved to know that little Macie is doing better - always frightening when a fur baby gets ill. And I'm not surprised that Gracie enjoyed her time as an only child - lol!
ReplyDeleteYes, these are the daze of our lives, Myra, that's for sure. If it weren't for my daily Bible reading, I'd forget what day of the week it was. The deck with the new lights looks so inviting, and so glad to hear Tom is doing well.

DeleteWhat wonderful news that Tom is doing so well. I love your deck with the solar lights on it. Glad the vet took a look and prescribed the food. It's always better to have them checked out and now she's good as new. What a relief for you. Nice you connected with an old friend once again. Over the years I've lost lots of blogging buddies. One day they were there and then they stopped. Makes us wonder what on earth happened. It's beautiful here in Ohio. Hope you all are having a relaxing Sunday !

ReplyDeleteHi Sweetheart, I did comment on this one. Because I was thinking of getting some solar lights. I have no idea why it did not appear. At times this this thing switches carriers o me and the do not show here, Ricks or Lisa's. No one can tell me why it switches or why it does not appear, each time it says 'posting'.
