Today being 'D' day (as in that job decision) I woke up terrified I'd get the call … discouraged when I didn't.
Only a few minutes ago, she called to invite me back again tomorrow to meet with the G.M.
I'm thankful
….. for a great afternoon with my son and Lois.
First thing Saturday morning, we picked up the smoked brisket I'd ordered. At nearly 7# there was plenty to send home for her parents and grand #2 who's sidelined with pink eye.

In the kitchen
Even tho' I sent half of it home with the kids, we're still snacking on hot spinach/artichoke dip. Must say, it came out delicious! Except, given the 8 cups of cheese, I might have been wise to pair it with a side of Benefiber. Ha.

Not only has Royal Caribbean given Grand #1 and Josh a full refund for the canceled cruise, but they're also getting comp vouchers for another cruise.

Oh my goodness!
So, the other day I was sitting here at the computer when Tom calls me to put on shoes and come outside. "Don't let the dogs out!"
Naturally, I thought 'snake.' But no, this little guy had crawled inside a 3' high trash can in his workshop! We lay a drop-cloth over the top and carefully walked it out to the field next door.
'City girl' here kept insisting it was a rat … but Lois looked at the picture and assured me it's a possum.
Makes me smile
So tickled when Lois brought over a big batch of her famous banana pudding in a pretty trifle bowl for us to keep.
Tom's always refused to taste it, on the grounds he doesn't like bananas. But that night I promised him it didn't actually contain any real bananas. "So what are those things?", pointing to the vanilla wafers. Begrudgingly he agreed to taste it. So guess who LOVES banana pudding now?

That was indeed a opossum. The dog that hubby had when I first met him was mainly an outside one. One night after we were married we heard Pete parking up a storm. Hubby goes to investigate and the dog was frantic around one of the trees. An opossum was treed there. Hubby had to bring Pete inside the garage area for a bit so that the opossum could make its escape. I'm thinking it never made its way back to our yard.

DeleteWhat a sweet post! Long ago I use to make banana pudding a la Paula Deen til she sold her soul to Big Pharm for big money! The kids loved it. I might pull that recipe up as we are taking dinner to Jeremy's phamily Sept 9. Might be good for them. Oh pink eye! Ouch! All the heartache in this phamily and Jacey's dad who lives on a ranch in Wisconsin. Had an outbreak of pink eye with his cattle. He was giving them their meds and checking in on them when one broke through the fence and crashed into him head first! She said he is ok but my goodness, I imagine that was quite painful! Pain eye is no fun at all. I have seen those shower caddies (I have one) but they showed it for movie night. Each person has their own caddy and you add a drink, popcorn, treats etc. Clever people never cease to amaze me. Oh your possum friend was probably as frightened as we all would be if we encountered him/her! Glad you took him to the field. Your post made me smile. HUGS

DeleteI think possums have a certain nice look all of their own. Where would I order smoked brisket, that sounds delicious. I see zinnias in the arrangement, they are a favorite flower. D day continues for you.
ReplyDeleteI don't see smoked brisket advertised much except on holidays … usually, it's a mom-and-pop business. We found ours at a small indy meat market.

Yes, that is definitely a 'possum. They look cute, but can be EXTREMELY annoying when they nest in your roof and/or walls (I know from bitter experience).
I've had two of them in my house (not at the same time, thank gawd). They're shy and timid - and will play "dead" - - but they have teeth like a vampire.....and can bite!!
I think Lois called these flowers, 'fireworks.' Good questions. I miss waking in the morning w/o having an agenda. Call it, 'cabin fever,' :)

Deletewe love our possums, they are great Garbage Guys and good for the environment. if you ever see a dead one in your yard, don't pick it up. they do play possum, which is pretend to be dead.. I have many possum stories.

A VA friend is a big support of them as being beneficial to have around the yard, but we never saw any at our home and not now at the mill apts. Nice that the cruise company refunded and issued a voucher.The dinner sounds great especially the banana pudding which we've also enjoyed with chocolate pudding added as well.

DeleteGood luck with the job! I'm kinda like your husband I'm not into banana's therefor have never tasted banana pudding. To me banana's have such a strong taste that it drowns out other flavors. Now if you want to talk chocolate, I'm your girl. I am proud of him for trying it, you never know unless you try something.What a wonderful cruise company, I'm sure they were sad that they had to cancel but how great that they were able to get some vouchers for another one! I've been to St. Thomas it's really nice. How crazy to find an opossum, we have raccoons, skunks and porcupines not to mention, rattle snakes, coyotes, bears and cougars haha. We are out in the wild wild west of Central Washington.

DeleteI smiled reading about your possum visitor. We had a large skunk in our backyard about 3 AM today. Our little chihuahua was going crazy, woke us up with all her barking, and really wanted to be let out. Not sure how that encounter would have gone... the skunk looked bigger than the chihuahua, but I'm sure she would have gotten sprayed. Glad I didn't let her out.
