Plumbing, Piddling n' Peepers

Hey there … good morning! :)

If we're Facebook-related, you already know what I'm talking about … but can't help bragging on my hubby.

For  a while now, I've been puzzled by the musty 'aroma' under the kitchen sink -- but chalked it up to our villainous dishwasher. Then, a leak.  I was prepared to call a plumber, but Tom wasn't having any of that.

He got to tinkering and (ahem) muttering …

I don't suppose the previous owners ever heard of using a sink strainer. Yuck!!!

I helped by holding the old drain in place while he was drilling.

The culprit: Rather than removing the sink's insulation to ensure a tight fit, they siliconed the heck out of the seal thingie.

Even using his monster crowbar, Tom wound up having to drill it out.

Before long, for less than $80 we've a whole new CLEAN pipes-and-drains assembly.

So happy we didn't have to pay $$$ to a licensed plumber, I splurged on a $5.62 roll of matching liner for under the sink and drawers.
Little things mean a lot - haha.

* * *

So, I'm still not gainfully employed.

Imagine my surprise when I had another e-mail, directing me back to the drug screening facility for another 'piddle test.'

Yep, my 'what-iffer' was spinning. Me: Suppose I could sue the screeners for a false positive? (*grumble, grumble*)

My office manager phoned to follow-up and learned the original 'sample' got lost in transit.  Seriously?!

That was Wednesday.  I don't know how long these things normally take, but my nerves are taking it badly.  See, I read something on-line yesterday that claims one should never drink more than 24 oz. liquid in 3 hours prior to the test.  Oops! I enjoyed 3 large coffees and a big bottle of Dasani for the drive.  You think someone might tell you these things before?

* * *

'Scotch' to the bone! I've elected not to invest in prescription glasses until January when my insurance kicks in.

Instead, I asked Tom to drive me to Walgreens where I found a cute pair of Foster Grant readers.
The strongest they have are 3.25 (my left lens is a 4). But!  It's an enormous relief for the early morning hours when my 'allergy eyes' want nothing to do with contacts.

You know what? It's all good!
I hope y'all enjoy a great weekend … be safe!

Hugs, Myra

  1. I wish you lived near me. Just had a leak in one of the bathroom taps (faucets). The plumber charged £100 to fix it.

To confuse the doctors I once sent them some dog's wee instead of mine to test. They suggested I should go for a walk more often and to keep off the couch.

Best wishes on your new job. All will work out fine. Have patience and faith. I knew two girls called Patience and Faith once. But that's another story.

    God bless, Mevely.

    1. Glad they didn't try to give you a rabies vaccine! I'll be on the look-out for your story of Patience and Faith.

  2. Just remembered another thing. Did you know that wee acts as a good disinfectant in emergencies. If one is bitten by a shark then pouring wee on it will take the sting away.

    God bless.

  3. Kudos to Tom for successfully fixing the drain. I always try to repair everything myself before calling out the (expensive) experts.
    WOW! All that silicone!!!
I haven't seen that much silicone since I lived in Hollywood.

Sorry to hear about the drug test mishap. I'm wondering if it was really "lost" during transit. I miss the good old days when you could get a damn job without all this insane (unnecessary) testing.

Glad you got some reading glasses. I only wear my contacts when I go out. I wear my glasses when I'm home.

  4. I had forgotten you wear contacts.. good idea to do the reader thing and wait for insurance, that is assuming you ever get that job. MURPHY, you got to love him... i have never had a drug test, i went to work before that came into play. i just searched and wow, who knew water can dilute urine and make it a fail.
Is a diluted urine sample a fail?
If an employee provides urine for a drug test and the specimen comes back dilute, it means that the person drank too much water prior to the test and literally diluted their urine. do you have to go back? give Tom a big pat on the back from me, plumbing is not easy, good job both of you, poor job on former owners.

    1. Honestly, I'm confused. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something? Tom's like, "What? You're not applying to the CIA."

  5. That is too funny about your drug test- but I bet you do not think it was funny.

And wonderful Tom can fix things - Rick can to - to a certain extent. And little things do mean a lot.

    You will be working soon.

    1. I hope so! It's certainly becoming an annoyance, driving 20-some miles to make water in a bottle. :)

  8. I have seen some weird plumbing 'fixes' but that one takes the cake. Under a sink is no fun even under good circumstances, but to swing enough tools to clean that mess is frustrating. But the final fix looks great. Tom did a very good job even working at an advantage under the sink. Definitely not my favorite place, I just cannot find a comfortable position.
That sucks about the 'lost sample'! BUT it will all work out, It is tough not to get a little anxious when things do not go as planned. (especially if one has a wild imagination!!!!)
    Love youguys,

  10. Great for Tom taking care of your plumbing needs! We lived in a house one time when the owner decided to do a lot of repairs that ended up not being done correctly. We found out the hard way like you and Tom are finding out.

Too funny about the test needed for employment. There was a time when son had to take random tests in this manner. He had to do it monitored, i.e. someone in the room with him, LOL. Thankfully at least you didn't have to do that! I'm sure you'll be gainfully employed before long!

    1. Oh, that's awful! I don't think I could do that 'on command' … but it makes for an entertaining story. :)

  11. Kudos to Tom for the plumbing fix! A pee test getting lost??? Now that doesn't sound right to me, but they should have warned you about liquid intake. Hope the job eventually comes through for you, Myra.
    Blessings!

  12. Kudos to Tom!!! As for that drug test, that ain't right--having to go back. That reminds me, I have been fighting the dr. over the colonscopy, so she sends me home with a test kit, I told her I am still not doing it. Sorry, I say no. Period. After seeing my husband go through what he went through--I ain't having it. That's your funny for the day, LOL.

    1. Sometimes I wonder if doctors think we're morons? After all, it's OUR bodies.

  13. You are so blessed to have such a handy man around the house. Plumbers do cost a lot and usually can't come right out when you need them either. So glad he found the problem and got it fixed. Don't worry about the job, I always figure if it's mean to be it will happen, if not, something better will be coming. Sad they lost your first sample, but it does make one wonder how they happened to lose it. Always love to hear what's new at your house. Hope you have a great weekend!

  14. I wish Tom were here! Some pliumber lacking in basic manners wanted $250 to change the faucet in our kitchen. NOPE! Still dealing with the leak but the SIL will help the FIL and hoping and praying it all works. Jake is quite a handy fellow too. He replaced a couple red pieces on the front porch. Going to replace it all eventually. May look into the pricing to see what the whole job would cost done by us. we are old but not dead! LOL!
