On December 5, 1901 Walt Disney was born. Have you been to Disneyland or Disney World? Can you share a favorite Disney memory?
I've actually visited both parks on several occasions. The best? In 2009, son and Lois invited us to join them at Disney's Old Key West Resort for an all-expenses paid holiday!
Unfortunately, one major mishap occurred when a certain grandma (ahem) took her eyes off the girls just long enough for Chloe to lose her front tooth at the resort pool. I felt soooo guilty!
The first roller coaster attraction at Disney World was Space Mountain. Do you/did you like roller coasters?
Not even a little bit!
Back in '77, my former hubby took me to Florida to meet his family. Of course, Disney World was on the agenda, as was Space Mountain.
After the fact, I was so shaken he assured me the second entrance led to a slower version … and I believed him. My poor in-laws were probably stunned at their new DIL's temper! Ha!
The very first fairy tale that Walt Disney made a cartoon about was Little Red Riding Hood. Did you enjoy fairy tales when you were a youngster or did they scare you? Did you have a favorite?
I don't recall feeling strongly one way or another. The Brothers Grimm stories were favorites. I probably would've rather heard about cowboys and Indians!
In Lady and the Tramp, Tramp's real name was Butch! Do you have nicknames for your fur babies and/or your children?
Our fur babies respond to Macer, Gracer and collectively, Lady Girls. That first trying year I also referred to them as 'those rodents.'
Yes, indeedie … they disemboweled the sofa.
I can't let this day go by without respecting George H.W. Bush, as he lays in state in the Rotunda of the Capital today. He was our 41st President and only the second father to have a son follow him as President of the United States. President Bush loved his colorful socks. Terri bought her husband, Joe, a pair of George H.W. Bush socks for Christmas one year.
Yes, I own a pair!
That's something I've not given any thought to. But I like the idea! … and now I'm old enough that being referred to as 'eccentric' sounds kind of attractive. LOL!

My one and only trip to Disney World was when one of my DIL's turned 40 and she celebrated by taking a few of us with her on the trip. I was in awe! All the sights and sounds were wonderful because it was all decorated for Christmas. I do love fairytales because the always have a happy ending. I didn't know about the famous socks but do wear colorful Christmas socks and have quite a few. I like cranberry juice this time of year and like mixing it with my apple cider. Today we have snow on the ground and it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Love the picture of your naughty but nice fur babies getting in trouble there. Hope they've since outgrown it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I remember Disney World looking magical … it was my dad's last Christmas in 1980. I may have to resurrect a photo to share this season. I enjoy cranberry juice, as well -- never thought about mixing it with cider!
Deletetwas 1977, my sons were 12 and 10, we went to Disney world here in FL, they talked me into space mountain. by the time I got off, I had decided to never ride anything again, that was the last ride I ever rode . also the only time I went to Disney. I live 90 minutes from it and have for 35 years and have no desire to go again.. but I might be the only one alive that feels that way.

Would it have been funny if you and I were there at the same time (1977)? My former hubby's company did business with Monsanto, so we were always getting comp passes … sure grew old in a hurry.

DeleteWe lived in Key West, our boys wanted to go just after Disney opened in Florida. the boys were teenagers and we lived on a budget, so we let them go in alone. (No neither of us like roller coasters) Anyway that was just after Arby's became a 'known'. We of course living in the 'nether-lands' had never seen one. So we stopped, what I remember most about that trip to Disney was 'Arbys was out of roast beef!' As always, Loved this one!

Whaaaa? They ran out of roast beef? I remember my dad being over the moon when Arby's first came out. Only the other day did I read, Arby's is pronounced RB's, short for roast beef!
DeleteI'm not fond of roller coasters either. I tend to like the slower rides and am content with Its A Small World at Disneyland. One day I hope to get down to see Disney World and everything in that part of the country. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about President Bush with his like of colorful socks. Step grand daughter likes to wear a different sock on each foot. Now the wee one is doing so too, but I'm not sure if it is a trend with him or if they can't find matching ones at times. There really is a sock monster in the dryer I fear. No matter how many socks we seem to get for him, he never seems to have any, LOL.
My favorite holiday drink is eggnog with just a touch of brandy in it.

That's the way Tom likes his egg-nog, too! Funny about the kiddos' mis-matched socks. Years ago in Texas we had a 'wheeler-dealer' client who was always one step ahead of the IRS. He'd refer to his mismatched footwear as his 'lucky socks.'

DeleteI went to Disney World back around 1983 I think it was. My son was very young and my oldest daughter was just a baby. We stayed in the campground and it was a delightful experience unlike any camping I had previously done.
ReplyDeleteI've been to Disneyland a few times. The first time was in 1962--I can still remember riding home to San Diego that night and hearing on the radio about Marilyn Monroe's death.
I haven't been to Disneyland in years even though I now live about 15 miles from there and pass by it frequently. For one thing it's too expensive for my wallet and I don't like the lines and the crowds.
The only colorful socks that I have are some Christmas socks that I received from my mother over 25 years ago. I wear them once a year if I remember to put them on so they haven't gotten a lot of use.

DeleteWhat a fun Q & A! Our younger son once worked as a financial adviser at Disney World, so his whole family... including us... could get in for free. Quite a perk! His kids went there so often, it became rather ho-hum for them. My hubby and I only went once, and it was fun, but the biggest thing I remember about it was it was hotter than Hades.
ReplyDeleteAt one time, I kinda liked roller coasters... the tame ones, that is. I rode one that did an upside down loop-de-loop, and I literally passed out. I vowed to never get on one like that again. My dear husband, though, has cured me of ever wanting to get on one of those rides again. He oh-so-kindly pointed out that it was built by the company that placed the lowest bid. :)
Your "rodents" are lucky they survived that first year with you. HA! Who'd a thunk such cute little critters could make such a mess? We have all kinds of names for our cats. Instead of Dash and Dot, we should've named them Lucy and Ethel or Tinkerbell and Tankerbell. Either would better suit their personalities.
Lucy and Ethel? I love that! You know, now I'll never forget your hubby's comment. Too, the airline industry. My imagination's going amok!

ReplyDeleteI think socks should be sold in threes not as a pair. This make sit easier to find two matching pairs from the drawers. I wrote to sock manufacturers with this idea telling them they would increase sales by 50%. I wrote in triplicate. They ignored me - three times - all three of them.
I probably never told you, but my life has had many ups and downs of late. I got a job on a roller-coaster. Previously I was an elevator attendant.
