Earlier this week, several of the "Gatherers" met for our monthly luncheon.

Well, before everyone's rain gear was put away, someone broached the subject about S's behavior while at Bible study Monday morning. The "Elephant in the Room." (You know, the one everyone sees but no-one talks about.) A relative newcomer to study, S is a bit outspoken. In a word, Self-congratulatory.
Is she a bad person? I doubt it, but then I don't think anyone's anxious to be pals. As she was speaking, I struggled not to roll my eyes. At.Bible.Study! WWJD?
Ever have someone rub you the wrong way? For no particular reason?
I'm reminded of a line from (a favorite musical) Carousel. "What's the use of wonderin' if he's good or if he's bad, or if you like the way he wears his hat?"
Back to my group of Gatherers.
Selfishly, when I formed this little tribe, I imagined a group of fun loving, like-minded ladies -- separate and apart from church-related functions. Unfortunately, one day at Bible study someone spoke out of turn. Before we knew it, another demanded to know why she hadn't been invited. One thing led to another, and B's name was added, albeit reluctantly.
Now, one of the Gatherers has asked if she might invite a certain someone else ("N") to join. While others at the table enthused, "Great idea!", I did my level best to smile sincerely.
What no-one knows -- I'm not proud of this -- a few years ago I UN-friended N. on Facebook. Not because she'd done anything to me, or against me. In fact, I don't even know she realizes it. N's always first to offer a big hug on Sunday morning, never realizing I'm mentally gritting my teeth -- remembering something she'd publicly posted about someone I admire.
Gosh, what am I, 12 years old?
What's it all about, Alfie?
I often wonder what Heaven will really feel like?
Personally, I hope it's a Place where both sides of the pillow are always cool.
More importantly, I hope the angels will restore calm where there is chaos. How will they resolve our Irreconcilable Differences?
I like what blog friend, Victor, has shared in The Christian Lounge. I think you might, too. (Click here)
Thank you for making time to visit me!
Hugs, Myra
Oh, yes, Myra. There are a few people I would just prefer to avoid at all costs. I've come to trust my gut feelings about people and choose to be cordial but distant when someone rubs my intuition the wrong way. Don't feel bad about it. I prefer to believe it is my Guradian Angel nudging me...
ReplyDeleteOh ya. I like that thought!
DeleteOh yes, that has happened before. I just smile and am cordial. Funny though, every time there is someone who rubs me the wrong way, they keep showing up in my life in other places. It's like God is putting us together whether I like it or not!
ReplyDeleteFather knows best!
DeleteI'm sorry you can't just get together with the people you like.
ReplyDeleteThat's life!
DeleteNot many people rub me the wrong way, I figure to each his own. The only person that horrified me recently was Trump at the recent G7, whose fart during the press conference in France was caught on audio.
ReplyDeleteYou ladies sure look pretty in this photo... I do believe that situations like this are more common than anyone cares to admit. Funny thing...I have a group of friends (Gypsy Queens) and we gather often for lunch and other outings...(We are actually going to lunch today). We have been asked several times by others to join in on our fun, but it just works best for us having the group we have. Is this selfish on our part? No..not at all. We enjoy each others company and we have lots of friend secrets! lol...we are kinda like sisters. We just don't need a KIA (know it all) to infringe upon our fun. 🤣. Oh boy...do I have some stories I could tell you and maybe one sweet day, we can meet for lunch...there would be so much to talk about!! Sending you love Myra...
ReplyDeleteI love the name, Gypsy Queens! Rock on!
DeleteThank you, Pam! Yep, one day at a time.
ReplyDeleteThis is a timely post, because I am mulling over whether to attend an event where I always feel like a 'fifth wheel'.
ReplyDeleteOh ya, I can relate!
DeleteThat cartoon says it all, Myra! There isn't one of us that hasn't been in your shoes in how we choose to respond/react to others. Certainly, we are all in need of forgiveness and grace!
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteI remember a lady who came into the school office all the time, that I took an immediate dislike to, however once I got to know her better we became good friends. We did a lot of volunteer work together. No matter what we should always be kind and I believe in loving one another. Love you, ma
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful, Ma!
DeleteIf I had a dollar for everybody who rubbed me the wrong way, I'd be a millionaire. *smile* Jon
ReplyDeleteYep! 😄
DeleteYah, I'm right there with you. Having led bible study groups and been the lead over lots of people this really does bring back memories. Sometimes it is really difficult to be nice and practice WWJD.
ReplyDeleteLots of times I feel like the 5th wheel in certain groups. I try to not go to them unless I absolutely have to.
Sue
It feels good knowing I'm not a lone ranger. Thank you, Sue!
DeleteHere's what I think ....
ReplyDeleteGod created annoying people in order to teach us to be kind and to love one another. If everyone was nice and to our liking then loving one another would be easy and to a great extent worthless, because we love people we like. But, loving someone you don't like is difficult isn't it?
When Jesus walked the earth He met many annoying and downright evil people. But He loved them; He even forgave them on the Cross. That's what Jesus would do and so should we.
Of course, there are people I don't like. The Gary's in your cartoon. Too many of them near me these days. I try to like/love them but I fail. I'm relying on God's forgiveness; otherwise I'm doomed !!!
Keep smiling Mevely. Life is meant to be funny. Just look at God's creations.
Thanx for promoting The Christian Lounge. You're a great friend. Glad I met you.
God bless.
How very true, your words! Thank you, my friend!
DeleteI love the Jesus cartoon! I want to say something "wise" about your group adding people, etc. but it is 3:00 a.m. and I have no wise words haha!
ReplyDelete😄
DeleteI so love Victor's comment to you...and I just want to say, and I am trying to be funny---but you know how women are, they are "catty", lol. Wishing you a lovely day, smiles.
ReplyDeleteMeow ... lol!
DeleteThis is a tough one. I'm sorry you have to deal with her. ((Hugs))
