... or more doctors' appointments
... or a recent chilly ride to said doctor on a 26* morning when the water pump in Tom's truck up and quit. (I'm actually RE-considering Winter being my favorite season.)

Macie Ann's coughing again. She doesn't seem to be declining, but neither will she get any better. Together with meds, we're just focused on giving her a Quality sort of life.

Each year about this time I get a yen for something pumpkin-y. Singular, yes. One-and-done and I'm good for another 12 months. I'd heard about what Publix calls their "monster" pumpkin cheesecake slices-- but eying the price tag made me put it right back. Thankfully, Tom over-ruled me; and even though he's not a fan of pumpkin, declared it delicious. Better than Cheesecake Factory, even! Looking forward - Tomorrow the "Gather-ers" will meet at my favorite smokehouse for our monthly luncheon. Even though our intended (restricted) membership got busted, I'm trying to make the best of it. Who knows, there may be a lesson in there. We've never had pumpkin pie. It is not so popular over here. But your nut bread sounds tempting. I'll search for a recipe.

Thank you Mevely. I think I will soak the dates in whisky overnight rather than in boiling water; and then use the excess whisky in the mixing dough. I've used whisky in other cakes before. Also drinking it neat with no ice or soda to save water.

DeleteGod always stitches our souls back together, Myra. I'm not a fan of pumpkin flavors, but certainly respect the taste of others, especially in this fall season when it's so popular. Hope Macie Ann will get better. When a pet is sick, it hurts our hearts so much. Blessings!

DeleteIt was pretty cool here for a few days but now we're back up in the 80's. I love pumpin and cheesecake too. So glad you enjoyed yours. My mom used to make date nut cooked that we loved but I've never had the bread. It is nice to enjoy the oven on. Our diets do change with the seasons. Pumpkin spice is a favorite of mine! DeleteI can't stop laughing at the "no one said anything about not draining the dates" I am ROFL and can't stop. that is why I don't bake and never will. the only thing I bake is a box mix stir and dump and the last time I did that was about 40 years ago. Publix bakery all the way, no matter the cost.

ReplyDeleteWe are just finishing up some banana bread I made from a yellow cake mix. Turned out pretty good but not quite as moist as I would have liked it.
Grateful that the Lord stitches up our shredded pieces too.
Hope your pup gets over that cough.

I never thought about using a cake mix for my banana nut bread. (Hmm!) The only way I deviate from a traditional recipe is to add buttermilk. I think that helps make it moist.
DeleteRecipe : cake mix
Delete3/4 over ripe bananas "smashed"
1/3 cup veg. oil
2 large eggs
grease 9x5 loaf pan
350F for metal 325F for glass
bake 45-48 min. Test until toothpick comes out clean. Depending on size of pan and your oven , it may take around 55 minutes. Cool about 20 minutes before removing from pan. You can certainly add your own spices but this is just the general Dump Cake (bread) mix recipe.

Our weather has been much like you alls. Crazy!! it was in the 80's yesterday. Here I am with snow covered Christmas decor in the living room, with the air conditioning on...and yet I step outside and I quickly understand that it's HOT. Enjoy a good weekend..
