This week's Hodgepodge lands on National Clean Our Your Refrigerator Day. Is yours in need of a cleaning? Will you get that done today? How often do you tackle this particular chore?
I'm sure ours could benefit from a clean-out ..... but aside from checking expiration dates, I'm in no hurry.
Now retired, I'm able to more closely monitor what duplicates someone brings home 'just in case.'
November 15 is also National Philanthropy Day. Tell us about a charity (local or otherwise) you like to support when you're able.
A large part of my heart belongs to those individual and organizations who rescue and foster abandoned dogs and cats.
What in nature inspires you and why?
Oh wow, how to choose?
Even tho' our trees obscure much of the rising sun, my #1 favorite will always be sunrise. God's given us a zillionth second chance!
Close behind, the ocean -- particularly while out to sea on a stormy night.
What's something you own that makes you feel cozy?
By his own admission, this doesn't do anything for Tom -- but our faux fireplace makes my heart happy.
Who did you thank today? Who thanked you?
I hope I never fail to thank God for waking me up each morning!
Other than that, I like to regularly express thanks to everyone whose path I cross -- whether it's the UPS deliveryman, our server or the little guy who held the store's door open for me yesterday.
Perhaps it's my imagination, but it seems people are more apt to express thanks these days.

Can you believe Thanksgiving's practically upon us?
I've still no idea what's going on the table or who all will be around it.
... but that hasn't stopped me from brewing pots-full of yummy comfort food.
Unfortunately, last night's potato soup missed the mark. Not because I didn't follow directions but figured "if a 10 minute boil is good, 30 should be better."
Granted, it's not quite as bad as my epic nut bread fail when the blender began to smoke and died .... but still.

I always enjoy reading your answers! Does your faux fireplace put out heat? It is cute!! Does it sound like a fire? Flicker like a fire?
ReplyDeleteWhile it doesn't make noise, yes ... it does have a realistic-looking flicker. There are two settings for heat, but we rarely use that feature.

DeleteThe only "gone-wrong" story I have is the time I was icing a cake for my husband's birthday and as I turned the plate it was on, it fell to the ground! I had to hurry up and make a whole new one because the party was only a few hours away.

DeleteOnce I ran a brand new juicer without realizing a piece of the instruction sheet was inside. Ugh!! I am a sunrise groupie too and every morning am reminded of the new mercies that are ours. Another chance.

ReplyDeleteI am inspired by leaves. How they grow from tiny buds in Spring to bright green leaves turning colour in the Autumn and dropping to the ground. I collect leaves. My wife gets angry because we can't enter the house with leaves everywhere in every room. The vacuum cleaner is blocked with all of them.
Do you think I'm over-inspired?

Hahahaha! I much prefer leaves to pines. Our last 'real' Christmas tree's needles killed the vacuum cleaner.
Deletethe only charity I have donated to and on a regular basis is Manatee County Animal control. the volunteer group that helps by thing the county will not buy. pools and toys and beds and blankets, comfort things. Sunrise, TREES, gulf and/or Atlantic and beaches. all living creatures except humans.
ReplyDeleteby 9:30 this morning, i said Thank you to the man who held the door when I went in doctor office to get blood drawn, TG to reception, TG to girl who drew the blood, TG to man who held door to leave, TG to pharmacist, cashier in Publix. I always say thank you to anyone who helps me or treats me good. sometimes i say it to those who are not helpful
Worst Thankgiving disaster was freezing cold, the power would come on for an hour and off for half hour and it took all day to cook the turkey and i got upset because i was afraid it would poison us.
and a Christmas dinner SAME year that the light fixture neon long bulb fell into the turkey pan and shattered all over the turkey. good news wa we had eaten and done, and one plate was still on the counter. the rest of leftover turkey went in the garbage
I think I remember that Thanksgiving ... we kept experiencing rolling brown-outs. As a rule, I'm leery of those hanging bulbs but never heard of such a catastrophe! And what a resulting mess, yikes!
DeleteI enjoyed your cozy post today. Felt right at home with you. Sometimes things I make don't quite hit the mark either...I feel bad when I have to throw away good food because I know someone out there would have appreciated it more than we did...Cooking for just two is challenging. And yes, I am thanking God every day for His multiple blessings that just keep mounting up! And i also just wrote about thanking a friend for an unexpected gift. Tis the season of thankfulness...which should be all year round, but I'm glad we focus on it especially at least once a year! Have a blessed Thanksgiving week!

DeleteYes and I agree with your answers in #3 and #5. I have an Easter story about forgetting the jello salad I made which would have put color on our plates in the frig and didn't discover it until the following day! Another one is with my inlaws watching early in our marriage, I pulled a pie out of the oven and dropped it on the floor. I scooped it up while everyone watched and served it with a smile! :)

DeleteI laughed out loud about cleaning out the refrigerator. This one in our new to us RV is about 1/4 the size of our previous refers. So just finding space for the necessary foods is tough.

DeleteI learned a year or so ago that your can ask Alexa to "thank my driver" when Amazon delivers. The drivers get extra points for happy customers so I always say thanks, through Alexa. I enjoyed this fun Hodgepodge. Keep us posted on Thanksgiving!

DeleteYour little fireplace is adorable, and very cozy! I haven't started my Thanksgiving food prep yet, other than just deciding what I'll make. I certainly hope I don't have any fails this year! The kitchen story gone wrong that came to mind is the year I made a favorite white squash pie and didn't put in nearly enough sugar. It was VERY bland and disappointing, sadly. Have a great week!

DeleteMy little fireplace stopped on me last winter, I've been shopping for a new one. I just love them. Worst experience at Thanksgiving....one year I had my dressing too soupy and it never cooked down. Lot's of people at my house and soupy dressing, it was a nightmare. But we got through it and all had a great time. It's all about fellowship and giving thanks anyway. ☺☺

DeleteOur fridge doesn't get very dirty and I toss things regularly. Those are great charities to donate to. You're right, God has given us so many to choose from. Glad the fireplace makes you happy. You are right, thanking God regularly is the best. I can't believe the Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close to happening. I am not ready at all! Enjoy your weekend.
