The cards we're dealt

Hello friends!

Sorry for not having chatted recently.
'Pretty sure no-one's interested in more news about Tom's health ..... our long-awaited siding project ..... the new slipcover I've ordered.

Honest?  I vascillate between feeling confident on some days, lucky on others, (still) scared on others.  My emotions refuse to stand still!

Anyway.
I'll recap a few snippets from this week.  And totally get it if you'd like to stop right here and come back when I have something fairly entertaining to share.

We had a great visit with Tom's eye doc in Birmingham!

Canvas hanging in Dr. Jackson's office

It being Columbus Day, I decided to channel old Christopher and put aside my fears of navigating I-65.   Ha!  Just about the time I was passing a big rig at 80 mph, this F150 came roaring up behind me -- and passed on the left shoulder!   Instinctively I started to respond with my middle digit, then considered -- what if he was rushing to UAB, to the side of a loved one?

Then, what would Dale Earnhardt do?  Is it just me, or has it crossed anyone else's mind, how do NASCAR drivers behave in 'real' traffic?  They're the best of the best, after all.

Never mind my getting turned around downtown. (WAZE, I'm looking at you.  B****.)  I love to people watch, particularly students ... so full of life and self-assured.  Few masks in sight, but I did laugh out loud at one co-ed's shirt, boldly proclaiming, "War Eagle."  (Some will get this.)

Oh, and WAZE?  When you tell me to take a left in 1,000 feet?  Would it kill you to add, "At the KFC ... kaddy-corner from the Chevron"?   I've only a finite number of brain cells left, and I'm not about to waste them trying to grasp spatial concepts.

The home health nurse has been out a couple times for more blood.  I'd some concerns about Tom's BP numbers but she put those to rest.  For now, we're watching his fever and pain levels.

I'll say it again: it's always something.  Our friends, Jean and Bob?  Last Friday he went to her room and found her unresponsive.  After 3 days she's finally woken up, but they suspect she'd suffered a stroke.

And then I was chatting with our sweet pest-control fellow the other day who allowed Glenda's just been diagnosed with breast cancer.  What to do?  Paul said, "We're just gotta play the cards we've been dealt."

On that note!  How about a few memes to make you smile?

 Me

Also me

Happy Friday everyone!

Hugs, Myra

  2. Kudos to you for navigating I-65 (on Columbus Day, no less). The F150 "passing" on the left shoulder would have scared the jeeters out of me. The older I get, the more I hate driving.

It seems like almost everyone is going through bad times lately (health issues, etc) I often erroneously think I'm the only one with problems....

    War Eagle?? I'm clueless.

    I remember w

    2. 'War Eagle!' is the battle cry/yell for Auburn University -- about as welcome at UAB as say, wearing a Biden t-shirt to a Trump rally. Now methinks it might have been a (sorority) pledge prank.

  3. Yep we understand that WE saying, but we do not ever utter it at our house unless we say D.W.E.
65 is not terrible except morning and evening drive times. Unless there is a wreck either way and then it is not fun at all. That being said, I drive it all the time and know to steer clear of the idiots.

  4. I am praying for all the people you mention here, Mevely. For Tom, Jean, Bob and Glenda; and for you too.

Wishing you and yours good health always. Take care my friends.

It's such a difficult time these days. I believe God is talking to us but not many are listening.

    God bless.

  5. Ditto what Victor said. Prayers lifted for all. You and Tom always and now please keep us posted about your friend, Glenda. Have a blessed weekend. Love the memes! xo

  6. Oh, I LOVE that last one about belting out the song lyrics...I am guilty of that all too often...and the piece of candy? Yep! So sorry about "Glenda". Praying for her, and for your friend Jean. Praying she will be okay. Wow. Glad Tom is doing well, and you are hanging in there. Praying for you too. May God continue to give you grace and wisdom and a good sense of humor. Love you.

  7. I like the three funnies you shared. My emotions sometimes run the gamut in a day too, happy, worried, relaxed, etc. Scripture helps.

  8. I'm glad to know that Tom is doing better, Myra, and I've said a prayer for your friends, too. Sometimes the cards we are dealt in life aren't pleasant, but it's how we roll with the hand we have at the moment. May God continue to watch over you and bless you, my friend!

  9. First things first, which means the MOST important. I LOVE this post and I love hearing about what goes on in daily life. 2nd is i am a tad insulted that you think this is not a good post and the material insulting because every single post I do is about my daily life, mine is like a journal of who i see, talk to etc.
Your friends stories of health issues are of interest also, you garnered (how is that for an old word) prayers for your friends by telling us. You reminded me of my favorite cashier friend at WM, the one I talk about a lot. she told me her story last week and I might have to do a post on it.
I WANT THAT CANVAS . love it.. still going but this is the last.
I laughed my head off at the KFC turn here. I tried one time to use my phone, to get to bobs eye surgeron. half way there I turned the silly thing off. I could do that because before I go anywhere at all I sit at the desktop, pull up where we are going, use google earth and write down what i see. drag that orange man and drive that street. I wrote after 17th st look for KFC and the second right is the street to turn on, go 2 blocks, turn left and the office is just 1/2 block past the ER at doctors hospital.
I even do this in town. the first time I went to the new mamo place, it is 3 miles from here but on the busient road to the beach and looking for an address is horrid because people run over me when i am hunting. i found the most obovious McDonals and Mexican Resturant it was between those.

  11. Ahhhh, then you said, "Honest? I vascillate between feeling confident on some days, lucky on others, (still) scared on others. My emotions refuse to stand still!" Some of us are right with you.
However I did enjoy the visit, ALL OF IT! However I did smile at the '666' Son Jack Jr. got his SS# many years ago and it had 666 in it and he tried to get it changed, NOPE! they said handle it. LOL
Yep, I'm with you on the "'Left in 1000'"
YES, we still must take it as it comes.
    Love you girl

  12. Aging and all that goes with it is NOT for the faint of heart. As for the traffic, that seems to be the one time I totally lose my cool. People CAN NOT drive!
    Blessings!

  14. Definitely playing the cards we're dealt, but some days I'd like another deck, please. Of course as my father always said to me, "Life isn't fair," and as with just about anything else, he was so right.

  15. Life is hard and you know what I say to that! Many prayers for all dealing with life's hazards. My mom would say whoever told you life was fair lied to you. It is not. Pray pharder as you well know this. :-)

  17. What a cute post. Yes,, we just have to go with the flow and make the best of what we have. There is not much we can do about a lot of things but try to keep a good attitude about it all. Our attitude is about all we can controll.

  18. I can't believe the guy had to pass you on the shoulder. That's crazy behavior! Keeping Tom in my prayers.

  19. Prayers work the very best. I tried to resolve our issues with Avery's asthma by myself. It did not owrk out. But a phone call from a lifesaving friend LInda in Kansas and her sweet husband Phil, they literally saved me from myself. God is the only answer to our troubles. I will learn to just trust Him totally someday. Today I am grateful He is working on getting Avery back to 100 percent but I have lost all faith in doctors and the pharmacist too. Zero respect, no compassion, not a thought aobut anyone but themselves. I don;t know how people who have to go back and forth to doctors do it. I saw what they did to my sweet friend Sharon and now she is gone forever form this life. So very sad.
