And so it goes ...

Happy Friday, y'all!

It's a gloomy 54* morning ...  the sort that makes me want to curl up near the faux fireplace with a bowl of buttery Malt-O-Meal, swimming in a bath of Half n' Half.  It's 1959 all over again.

Seriously, why is it?  Weather conditions (and stress) combine to make me crave comfort food -- or as one author calls it, 'nursery fare.'

First the good news.  We met with the neurosurgeon Wednesday morning.  Stunned.  This guy could have walked right out of Central Casting -- white hair and sparkly blue eyes (think Marcus Welby) that bore into yours like a laser.   Not once, but twice he apologized for keeping us waiting.  (Huh?!, I've never heard that from a doctor before!)

No fist bumps, no gloves.  Nope.  Firm handshakes for both of us.  He took his time explaining the bacteria and confirmed yes, we're in it (infusion therapy) for the 10 weeks so as to avoid a 'vertebral collapse.'  (I don't even want to think about that right now.)  But overall, he said Tom "looks great."

Suspect a specialist of his nature would be offended, but gosh.  I wish he could be my primary care physician.

Speaking of physicians.  Do you remember when -- if you were a good girl or boy -- the doctor would hand you a lollipop, or an equally inane something or another?   My mother used to similarly 'reward' me after a dentist visit with a trip to Baskin Robbins.  (I wonder if that's why, to this day, I'm not especially fond of ice cream.)

Anyway!   Putting aside my vow to never again darken the doors of America's largest retailer,  I agreed to accompany Tom to find a comfortable pair of 'knock-around' shoes.  And fulfill our weekly shopping list.  The feeling?  Not unlike one gets watching a Tennessee Williams play.  So!  I decided to buy my own reward -- a little (8") Blue Diamond skillet.

One less thing on my Amazon 'wish' list.  But I'm debating adding this.

At the doctor's check-in, his receptionist had one by her keyboard and everyone was raving about it.  Left to my own devices, I'd probably drink coffee all day -- but this gallon 'motivational' jug is pretty cute.  What-cha think?

So, the 'witching hour' is almost upon us.  We've never been approached by little ghosts and goblins, which is frankly a relief.  Of course, that's not going to stop me from sharing these memes.  Hope they make you smile!

Thanks for stopping by ... please come again!

Hugs, Myra

  1. So glad that Tom is doing so well, Myra. That's a blessing, for sure. And that's a great photo of you with the giant scarecrow. Ironically, my post today features scarecrows in our downtown area. :) And the memes were just too funny. Thanks for the laugh!
    Blessings!

  2. So glad Tom is coming a long and doing good. How nice to have a kind doctor, that is something to be admired and appreciated for sune. Most don't take the time. I never noticed the strangeness of those old pictures before, but you have to admit there's something not quite right about them. Spooky! We've been cloudy and gloomy here with rain on and off most of the week. I keep trying to make my own sunshine!

    1. There you go! I agree. Most doctors -- particularly specialists -- may be brilliant but they've little to no 'bedside manner.'

  3. I am glad you found the doctor you needed!
    The memes are great!
I am looking forward to Halloween! We have a lot (70-80) little ghosts and goblins visit each year. I love seeing them!

  6. Malt-O-Meal with half and half. I'm in Heaven!!!
I love Malt-O-Meal and cream of rice. This cooler weather has given me an appetite and the incentive to cook more.

I remember a time when doctors gave lollipops to us kids. I also had a dentist who had a box of small toys, and he'd let us choose one (after he ravaged our teeth with his wicked drill).

Good news about Tom - I hope things remain positive.
Long ago I did a post on my old blog about evil-looking kids in vintage commercials. They sure didn't need Halloween masks....

    1. I think I recall that post, Jon. That, and the Easter bunny.
For some (unknown) reason, my mother always told me the Novacaine shot would hurt worse than the drill -- so I've no pleasant dentist memories.

  7. Yay for finding a decent doctor. glad it went so well, now to get through the rest of the injections.. i had never noticed the evil kids, but they sure do look that way. probably because. they were/are. ha ha my advice on the water jug, you might as will burn the bucks with a match for all the good it will do. Take a milk jug and fill with water and if you want marks mark it, mine is there and i know I am on target if i open the door and it is half full... you will not drink more water because of the jug..

  9. I am praying for Tom and for his good health. Yours too, Mevely.

Those water bottles look great. What is the volume?

It's true that weather conditions and stress make us crave foods. Unusual foods. Like being pregnant. I think I'm pregnant! I had olives with peanut bitter. Is that OK? Followed with corn flakes and honey.

Keep smiling. God bless you all.

    1. The bottle? That's 1 gallon ... whew!
Actually olives and PB doesn't sound bad. Have you ever enjoyed olives stuffed with bleu cheese?

    2. One gallon? That's 3.78 litres a day. Seems much to me.

No, I've never seen olives with blue cheese over here. I'll look out for them. We have olives stuffed with red pepper pieces. Must take ages to do by hand. I wonder how it's done by machines.

      God bless, Mevely.

  12. Thanks for the giggles from those last memes! Too funny and so true! That water 'jug' is pretty cool. So glad Tom's doctor is likeable and good. An apology and he shook your hands! I really miss that almost as much as I miss a good hug. Love & hugs & happy weekend!! xo

  13. I'm so glad you liked the new doctor!! Yes, I do remember getting a treat after a doc appointment. My mother-in-law used to get an ice cream cone after doctor's appointments and she, at 96, would still like to do so (I think!).

  14. I enjoyed your post so much, Myra. Love the little cartoons at the end, even though you know I am a doll lover and some people are creeped out by them, but mine are just so sweet and would never hurt a flea, but those pictures are creepy! Funny, but still creepy. Glad you and Tom had such a good experience at the Doctor's office. Yes, it is nice to have a Doctor actually go out of his way to act like a civil and nice real human being. I have met some good ones here lately as well, although they are hiding behind their masks so I can't see their faces...I don't like that part. And I do like the idea of a little reward for being good at the Dr.'s office. My reward was coming home! LOL. Love the picture of you and the giant cornstalk scarecrow. Funny. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. I am still in recovery mode, not writing or doing much at all, but I am so thankful to be alive and getting better every day. God is good.

  15. Oh my gosh...to have a doctor that apologized for keeping you waiting is surreal!! He's definitely a keeper.
As for Halloween, I love it. The fun. I concluded my Halloween month of blogging today in photos. Now on to Thanksgiving & Christmas...equally fun.

Those meme images you shared? That caped batman in "a horse's costume" would definitely freak me out!!! 😄

  17. Oh My goodness, great news about Tom! always what we like to hear. You have an excellent neurosurgeon. Since I feel qaulified to call myself an expert in that field, having endured not one, not but three neurosurgies/ My original dr. was a smart aleck. But we got along very well. I should hope so, after he drilled into my head three times looking for evidence as to why I was still so loopy and goofy and dopey. HaHaHa - it was not funny at the time but now I look back and know God was holding me upright. When he left the UCHSC I went under the care of Dr. Kevin Lillehei. Oh my goodness, he was sp kind and just like your new neuro guy. A medical student who worked with me in the MIcrobiology/Immunology dept. once told me, the rest of us, medical students, interns, doctors,o other surgeons, are all in awe of the neuro docs. Dr. L was a dear heart. When we lost our unborn baby girl Rachel he confided in me he and his wife had had several losses and his comforting words stick with me all these years later. I am a Crfeam of Wheat, Cream of Rice, Grit kinda girl. I love them all and oatmeal occasionally too. Have a great end of the month tomorrow. We have candy as I make bags for Addy, Brody, Blake, Harrison and Shea. But it is hit or miss since all the world went wacky last year. Love all your phoots too. I love my dolls and they will not come get you after dark hahaha. Although I do have a doll called "Bad Fairy" and she hates for me to move her away from her other doll sisters, Girl in the Peach Tree and Ella. I will have to write a post about Halloween. Now that the kids left and my life return to me, myself and 6 dogs, two cats on Monday! I better wind this up, take care and good to know things are improving for you both. More ont he water bottle later. HUGS

  18. Great news for Tom! I, too, have a good looking and very nice (and capable neurosurgeon). Fortunately I don't see him very often, but also really good looking and a good sense of humor.
