Some of y'all may remember when, in the Fall of 2017, we embarked on a long-distance house hunt. Hey, I'll be the first to admit -- internet photography and polished verbiage can sure be deceiving. If we hadn't taken a few days to fly out and tour the candidates, I hate to think what might have happened. (Can you say, pig in a poke?)
I well recall feeling devastated when the home we'd chosen in Wetumpka's historical district failed to pass inspection.
Mind you, I feel we're right where we're supposed to be -- in the 3rd runner up -- only 11 miles down the road. But I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Wetmpka's small-town charm.
Gosh golly! When we learned, out of 5,000 submissions that it was chosen for HGTV's new 'Takeover' series, I was soooo excited.
Before it premiers tomorrow night, I (strongly) suggested to Tom, he and I take a drive. Unfortunately, it was a cool and broody kind of day -- and packed with people, whose attire fairly screamed 'tourist'!
Since our 2nd vaccines, Tom's more open to the idea of eating 'out' and actually suggested we revisit one of our favorite venues, Coaches Corner. "Hey, you don't have to ask me twice!"
The 'black and bleu' burgers and generous helping of onion rings were still as delicious as we remembered.
Good thing, Tom and I both love garlic and onion!
Honestly, I didn't much care for the renovations.

I want to go back on a nicer day and take more pictures of the historic district. Imagine, if you will, neat little brick bungalows whose window boxes erupt with blooms ..... side-by-side with homes that totally define the term, shanty.
I was able to find the location of one of Ben and Erin's make-overs.
(I was too embarrassed to get out and take a picture. Ha!)

Be it 'Chip and Joanna' or 'Ben and Erin', do you ever wonder:
When they show the Big Reveal, what if the homeowners don't like what's been done, and make a face.
Of course, I'm sure that's all covered by contracts, etc., but I think that would be soooo funny.

Good for Wetumpka! I haven't been keeping up with HGTV as much as I used to, but I just might have to tune into this one, Myra.
ReplyDeleteAnd boy, the burger and onion rings look delicious! We aren't at the eating out stage either quite yet; I'm ready, but Danny's not. Think I'll try to talk him into going somewhere where we can dine outdoors. He needs a break from cooking!

DeleteI am looking forward to their new season just right up the road from you!! I agree with you about that color scheme and I have also wondered about all the ooohhhhs and aaaahhhhs during the reveals. Often, I am not in agreement. LOL Glad you are getting out and about more. Eating out was what I missed the most during the lockdown. Many of our restaurants and stores have taken down the mask signs and our Governor had declared that people who have been vaccinated don't have to mask up unless it is called for by the venue. Finally getting a bit more 'normal' here.

DeleteI hadn't heard of this series so I looked it up. Interesting!! I wonder how different the town will look after the makeover. It does sound like a charming town to explore :)

Yay that you and Tom went out to eat!!! I bet it felt so good to do so (and really it is very safe:) Food looks delicious!!! Have to agree about not liking the renovations, but maybe they wanted to make things more Covid friendly? (you know what I mean :)

The old 'downtown' section looks far different, yes. They actually finished all the filming 4-5 months ago, but this is the first we've seen. Poor Tom was just trying to navigate the super NARROW street without hitting a pedestrian. LOL!
DeleteWe have similar TV programs here where they "improve" your house, or garden, or even oneself. They show photos of how one normally dresses; then a stylist suggests better clothing to suit the person.

DeleteOh, how cool is that?! It would be so much fun to watch one of those shows come in and transform a home. The food looks yummy except for the bleu cheese. I do love garlic and onion, though. Thanks for the fun tour. I'll look forward to more photos of the town some day.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing! But aside from days when streets would be closed or traffic detoured, all the times and locations were kept tightly under wraps. :(

DeleteI would love Wetumpka, not sure that is how its spelled. I love old houses and old towns. alos love burgers but not with bleu cheese, i am sure they would leave that off and adde mayo?
ReplyDeleteSo far we have not eaten out since last March, just can't make myself do it. i said yesterday i want to sit in Culvers and eat a burger ..
we do the take out and the deliver. ashamed to say, i pay 10 extra to get food delivered. it is so worth it.
I stopped watching HGTV 2 years ago, I read to much about what goes on and gave up. will not share it, because before i loved to watch, now i don't. i tried to find a show named Takeover tonight but don't see one. i would like to see what they do to this house. when they are done, hope you will take photos for us..
Actually, Coaches Corner has like 7-8 different kinds of burgers, but I'm sure you could ask. The waitress was so nice when I asked for coffee. Instead of saying, "We don't have any" she offered to make me some fresh.
DeleteI found the show, i looked for takeover, Hometown Takeover, can't wait to see what they do to the house. I did not see the movie, but I remember you talking about the house and I love that house. can't wait
ReplyDeleteOops -- I should have typed the correct name. One thing I learned from the previews: the 2nd story was not an part of the original house, but was put on for the movie.

I agree - - I hate the color scheme on that home. If anyone ever painted my house blue and pink I'd gleefully kill them.
And yes, you succeeded. I'll have to remember that one!

DeleteSo, is that going to be a new series, and are Ben and Erin still doing Hometown in Laurel as well? I love them and enjoy their show so much. I will have to check this one out too. Not a bleu cheese fan, but everything else looked great! Looks like you live in a beautiful area. Is that in northern AL?

I caught the show once in a doctor's office. VERY interesting the things they can come up with.

ReplyDeleteYes to eating out and like I was telling a fellow blogger, folks are doing their own thing here. 400 + days and counting of being shutdown and folks are starting to realize this...just saying...more and more folks have had enough. They might not be out protesting--but they are living and most have had enough of the mask mandate. I deal with this every single day at my employment. ANYWAYS...

Deletedo love the shows on HGTV and all the ideas they share. I try to takeover my space for myself all the time. Glad you are able to get out and enjoy yourselves. I think you made the right choice when you moved. You have a lovely home and have made it your own.

DeleteWe LOVED watching last night especially since our daughter (and her family) live nearby. I actually had tears in my eyes a couple of times. I didn't think I was going to like the color scheme on that house but when the project was finished, I thought it turned out very well. I've wondered about that, too. What if the owners hated it?? There was a show years ago (much like the youtube video above) where they put flowers all over the bathroom wall. I had to stop and search for it -- scroll down in this article and there is a picture.
