Sunday Five

Good morning!

FIRST, thank you for your empathetic remarks on my last post.  I didn't want to be a Debbie Downer; and, in fact, thought about deleting it.   No, we still haven't any concrete.  But Josh called yesterday to assure us he's 'all over it.'  Whatever that means.

Meanwhile, a few thoughts off the top of my head.

I'm thinking of trading in our washer and dryer for one of those stackable models.

Laundry NON-room hidden behind bifold doors in a niche off the kitchen.

I do a bit of laundry almost every day, and we could sure benefit from the extra storage space.
Are any of y'all familiar with those top and bottom appliances?

I'm thankful, remembering strangers' random acts of kindness.

You know, I'm big on sincerity.  My parents, friends and loved ones alike always lavished me with praise.  (Mostly undeserved -ha!)   I'd think, "Sure, they have to say that because they love (like) me."

No. I'm talking about the unexpected.

Like the elderly Indian.  1957: We'd gone to Santa Fe to purchase bus tickets to New York City.   Beside myself with excitement, I asked if I might peek inside the empty bus.
He approached Mother to compliment her about me having said, "May I?" (v. "Can.")

More recently, a stranger approached me at Village Green to say she admired my posture.

Silly, perhaps. But these are things that stick to my very marrow if I get to feeling discouraged.

Speaking of Village Green,
I cheated.

When the pandemic hit, my daily walks held little appeal.  Stop, start, ya-da-da. I quit.

Audio books never interested me.  But realizing I needed to get back in gear, last month I downloaded something suspenseful -- whose author I really enjoy.  The caveat?  I would only listen while exercising.

Fortunately, I'm super enjoying the book!  Unfortunately, my hip has become significantly quarrelsome -- resulting in my almost taking not one, but two falls.

So ya.  I have an appointment next week to see an ortho doc  ..... and am cheerfully listening to my audio book while observing what Anne Lamott calls, "the sacred act of ploppage" in my favorite recliner.  No guilt!

In the kitchen?
I'm about to go start prepping something 'Ma' shared, Pizzaiola Chops.  Here's a link to that post.

Finally, a thought to carry with you --

Ain't that the truth?

I hope you all have a super (rest of your) Sunday!

Hugs, Myra

  1. i wish i could make myself think of me as others think of me... been a problem my whole life.
about the washer/dryer. those look like they might not be the new watersaver type washers. if they are you can not buy them any longer. the new ones make the decision how much water to use, and everyone I know that has them, hates them or wishes they had their old back. they weigh the wash and pick the water and make horrid noises. in the kitchen it would drive me nuts. if those work well keep them... that is what I say and Rose would say. lets see if anyone else wadedin on this

    1. Unfortunately, yes. Our washer and dryer are the 'new and improved' (NOT!) kind. The repair guy was out 5 or 6 times the first year and said everybody hates them.

  2. Praying for your quick and complete healing. Please take care. The best exercise is with a glass of Guinness, or whatever you enjoy drinking that is not water.

I enjoyed your post today, as well as the last one you posted. Do not be concerned about what you post; your readers love coming back here for more. That's all the proof that you need.

    God bless.

Thank you so much for your comment, Victor. It means a lot.

  3. Sorry about your hip Myra, hope the ortho can do something to help. It's dangerous taking falls when we are older.

We have the stackable washer and dryer in our condo in Fort Lauderdale. They are just fine if you only need to do small loads of laundry. But then again, why spend the money if yours are working fine. At least wait until one conks out and needs to be replaced.

It's always nice to get compliments. I remember being complimented on my manners often when I was a kid. The most recent was a little before the pandemic when a man came up and said I was so skinny that I could hide behind a telephone pole - I don't know if it was meant as a compliment but I took it as one lol.

Enjoy the Pizzaiola Chops and your book! :)

    1. Our washer and dryer are only 3 years old, but the worst appliances I've ever owned. (Did you see what Sandra wrote, above?) But you're right, they do the job. *sigh*

  4. Oh no on the fall...I hope you get healed up sooner than later, my friend.

My husband is always looking at the stackables, sorry, I refuse. We have lots of laundry. I like my big washer and dryer, end of story.

P.s I love what you post!!!! smiles

PS - What am I thinking? Appliances are boring.

  5. We purchased a new top-loader machine; it is so much better than the front loader. Now to get a new dryer, one that is raised.
This falling business has really hurt me.

  6. I sure hope you get the concrete fiasco straightened out. The fact that Josh is "all over it" doesn't sound too promising - but we can hope for the best.

I know nothing about those stackable washer/driers. If they will allow you more storage space it might be a good idea.
I'm sorry to hear about your hip problems. Falls can be extremely dangerous.

I've never liked audio books, but I occasionally listen to them in bed late at night - - and they ALWAYS make me fall asleep! Strange...

    1. I think I should have spelled it "dryers", not "driers". I'm nearly an idiot.

    2. I should have added, the books' narrators really make a difference. I've deleted a couple who, despite the story line, sounded like my old science professor.

    3. You're right. The narrator makes a huge positive or negative difference.

  7. Yes, indeed, to that last, Myra! And I am still chuckling about "the sacred act of ploppage"!! Will be using that from now on, thank you! Blessings to you in the week ahead, dear friend!

  8. Hmmm, re: stackable w/d. Talk to people who have them first. I prefer my extra large capacity top load washer and dryer, looks a lot like yours. The new fangled w/d have more electronic gizmos to go wrong and they rarely last longer than 3-5 years, if you are lucky. Personally, the less bells and whistles on an appliance, the better they are and less to go wrong. That's my opinion. I always enjoy your posts, btw. Don't change a thing. I am sorry to hear about your hip. I do hope it won't require replacement or whatever. Maybe some good therapy/exercise will help, meanwhile, rest and take it easy. I am not an audio book fan. I don't do well just listening. I must SEE what I am reading, and I prefer REAL books to e-books too. I am a very tactile person who needs to hold a book and smell it and turn the pages back and forth so I can get the full experience. Besides, I don't hear well in one ear and I hate wearing headphones. So there you have it. Posture is so important, isn't it? My mother was a stickler for good posture. I wish she was still here to remind me, tuck in my tummy, fanny under, shoulders back, head held high. Oh, that makes me tired just thinking about doing that now. LOL. Mom, I'm sorry...I'm a posture failure these days! LOL.

    1. Exactly! My mother used to say the same thing about the features on automobiles: "That's just something else to go wrong." Yes, I do miss the aroma of a real book; particularly if it's been well loved. You're so cute about the posture; thanks for the smiles!

  10. I've seen the stackable washer/dryer combination but I'm not a big fan. Maybe because I'm used to the way its always been, lol, side by side. We do 4 loads a week, now I'm wondering if we are dirtier people if you guys do a load a day?

How sweet with the compliment about your posture! That's something I need to work on :) A few weeks ago we tried a new to us breakfast place in Sun City (Bobbie's; it was just good home cooked type food, nothing fancy). There was an older lady seating at another table with her son or daughter and their respective spouse. Anyway, they must have been at church prior because she had a very cute hat on her. About 5 people came up to compliment her on it :) I think she was getting embarrassed towards the end. I like to, if I'm out and about and see well behaved children, compliment the parents (like kids at restaurants who actually are polite in waiting and not using a tablet or phone to keep them occupied but actually drawing on the stuff most restaurants give to keep kids busy :)

Ouch with your hip! Are you walking on concrete? I heard that can be bad for joints versus walking on grass or a track. I can walk 40 minutes on the treadmill but put me on concrete for even a brief walk and my knees start hurting. Hope the orthopedic has good news for you with "simple" fixes to relieve your pain.

And let's cross our fingers about that concrete!

    1. Hmmmm ... that's something I hadn't thought about! I re-examined some of my pix and the trail looks like asphalt.
That's so sweet about the little lady with the cute hat. I need to work on my own game about extending praise where it's due.

    2. Good luck with your hip! That's scary. We don't have our own washer and dryer, we use the laundry room. Half the machines are top loading, the others are front loading. We use the top loading ones, which fortunately aren't down as much as the front loading ones.

      Delete
    3. Thanks! I've never used a front-loading machine ... good to know!

  11. Oh yes, compliments are SWEET, and nice to be remembered.
We have never had stacked washer and dryer but have thought about it several times. But thankfully I built this one with a separate 'WASHER room'. When the inspector looked at the house he said that bedroom is too small. I let him know it was the washer room. (Plumbing in the bedroom???)
Anyway enjoyed the visit. BE SAFE and hope the concrete & workers arrive....

  12. Hannah and Jake have a stackabes washer/dryer. They like it a lot. We stayed in a cool townhome in Vail, CO owned by a friend of Jeremy's grandpa. They had a stackable washer and dryer too and it was a breeze. It is nice to be treated kindly and be remembered. Oh your concrete reminds me of our solar problem. Hello...coming up on a year and still no solar panels working. With all this rain I don';t know if the city inspector will make it here on Wedesday althoguh I can be optimistic. It is getting really hard though. I was cleaning up some odd comments at my blogs. UGH! The crazy stuff some folks do. Enjoy your week and hoping the concrete arrives soon. Prayers up!

  13. When I was walking outdoors, before we got the treadmill, I had a horrible problem with my right hip, Myra. It has since cleared up, but I'm glad you are seeing a specialist about it. I might have if it hadn't been for the pandemic, but now? No need to wait! Hope all goes well!
    Blessings!

  14. I too have heard that this stables do smaller loads and I would weigh that over how much space you would gain by them. I too have hip problems and have had to start using a walker if I want to go for walks. I don't mind, at least I'm still moving. I did have a wonderful Sunday , I plopped right in my chair with a book and wound up having a wonderfully long nap. I've refined the fine art of plop page I think!

    1. I agree! However slowly, I tell myself it's key to just keep moving.
      Aren't long naps the best?

  15. Really enjoyed your post today!! I do not have a stackable washer and dryer but they would definitely take up less space!! I love Anne Lamott and her sacred act of ploppage (among other things!)

  16. I love listening to audio books. May I ask what you're listening too. I'm always looking for something good.

I've never had a stackable washer and dryer, but my sister did and I think she liked it fine as it saved space.
