Don't you just hate it when someone says they are going do something ... then they don't?
Remember, mid-April we contracted with a fellow to demolish our deck and pour a concrete patio. Well, the guy and Tom 'had words.' He and his crew walked off the job and haven't been seen or heard from since.
I was beginning to think we should take a page from Calistoga's mud baths. No-one seems interested in giving us a quote, much less doing the job.
Until yesterday. We felt fortunate to have found someone who (seemingly) walked his talk.
Until 6:45 this morning. Josh called to say there's no concrete to be found until next Thursday. Maybe. He was supposed to come by this morning to measure and lay screen, but now he isn't even answering his phone.
So far I've dusted everything that's standing still ... even reorganized the spice cabinets.

DeleteIt's such a shame I don't live near you, I could lay the concrete for you. I did it for the neighbour years ago, also in our garden. Mixed the sand and cement by hand - well, with a shovel really not by hand literally.

I hope you didn't pay them anything... lettuce and beans and squash sound good...or maybe some parsely, sage, rosemary or thyme, if you've got the time, that is. LOL. Sorry to be silly. DeleteIt is very hard to understand anyone in business that will not keep their word. i know there are reasons, BUT when I could use the phone if a problem arose I ALWAYS explained.
ReplyDeleteMany things today are hard to understand. Most folks know even if they have more work than they can handle they still need to keep a good name because those SLOOOW times will come around and your reputation will need to be in place.

Exactly! Tom had the same ethic -- even when something unexpected (like a traffic issue) were to come up, he'd call. Maybe that's why we're so discouraged.

DeleteYep! I'm echoing Terri with not understanding why people don't want to work. If that government incentive has wormed its way into the fabric of work ethic, then we don't stand a chance. Still waiting on the truth to come out regarding the 2020 election . . .

DeleteLOL, I loved your spice song on Facebook; glad you replicated it here :) I haven't reorganized the spice cabinet (only because hubby did a few years back with a good system) but I did dust the wine bottles in the rack a few weeks back. Not sure they had ever been dusted and reminded me perhaps to drink the fine wine in these trying times :)
ReplyDeleteI loathe repair people in any form who don't follow through with their word and do the job they say they would do. I had so many promise to come and give an estimate on yard work to never show up yet their advertisements indicated they were open and ready for business. Frustrating!
I think you guys perhaps may have more spice than we do!

Hahaha ... and there was another pile (of spices) I didn't show on the counter behind me to be thrown away. Some of this stuff came from Fry's in Goodyear!
DeleteWe have problems like that a lot up on the land. There are a couple of things that need to be done and the two different guys/companies involved said they could do it but we haven't heard from them. Sigh... :(

ReplyDeleteone of my favorite RANTS is about any repair persons that come to the house, handy men that are not handy, fence people who don't show, also with phone off. it took us over a month to get someone to put up 2 sections of fencing... then the plumber who did half the job and I had to call another, like your concrete. I am now imaging just how you take the dogs out in all that mess, hope the concrete appears on thursday, since he is not answering how will you know. i have been on a 3 day organizing bender... as you will see today and the next 2 or 3 days
Hahaha ... I go outside and it gets sucked up into the sling. (I suppose the same technology as Pampers or Depends.) We take them out front on their leashes when the rains come, and they don't seem to mind -- like they think front yard rain is better than out back. Silly girls.
DeleteParsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme - that is going to be stuck in my head all day - hahahaha! I'm so sorry about your "lack of concrete." We've been having trouble with AT&T for two weeks - they showed up the first time but it still isn't fixed. We have purchased paint and had the estimate - I hope he shows up on Wednesday as planned.

Tim's running into all kinds of issues at work with supplies, but to blow you off and not even come to do what he said he'd do? Shameful! DeleteOh the world is going mad! It is insane . I wanted to replace a board on the front porch. Darn bunnies moving under the porch again, they found a miniscule hole! UGH! Wood is at a premium too. I'm just frustrated beyond being frustrated. Hoping the guys get the patio poured. Life is hard. PRAY HARDER! Wise words from my late mom. Boy do I miss her at times like this. Now I have the spices stuck in my head. HaHaHa! ENjoy a new week.
