Whew, that sure went by fast!
... and if you're anything like me, you don't want to even think about eating again 'til the new year.
Our Christmas was definitely low-key.
Just the way I hoped!
The days preceding did bring some nice surprises.
Tom's son sure knows our carnivorous habits!
One of my mother's long-time friends called Wednesday night to say she'd just received our card and how much it meant. Mary Joe's 97 years old now and still living by herself in New Mexico ... sharp as a tack.
Then early Thursday, the funeral director (from my short-term stint at White Chapel) texted to say hi and said, "I miss talking to you."
Little things mean a lot!
💓
Tuesday morning, when the third member of our already-small congregation was diagnosed with Covid, Pastor Janet immediately canceled in-person services.
Thankfully, everyone was able to participate in Christmas Eve services via Facebook live streaming.
If anyone's interested, I recorded her hubby singing Silent Night. (Click here)
Meanwhile!
Tom was preparing a scrumptious rib roast.
Oh m'gosh, y'all.
We'd not used this rotisserie in years, so I'd forgotten how noisy it sounds. Judging from the dogs' growling and carrying on, you'd have thought it was Godzilla himself come to carry them away.
💓
Christmas Day.
As usual, there was more food than should be allowed. (Yes, I remember mother saying something about all the starving children in India. Or, was it China?)
DIL's mother, Jeanette
I'm not especially fond of ice cream .....
but never having tasted Blue Bell before, I thought "There's no time like the present!"
Requisite family photo
..... minus Grand #2, who'd left to visit her boyfriend's family.
Blame it on Grandma Myra's spidey-senses, but I strongly suspect this might be "the one." Just wish I'd thought to include Matt's name on the card.
💓
Have you time for one more tale?
At one point I saw Grand #1 stick her head in the front door, saying something about needing CPR.
Turns out, Molly Jane had captured a lizard. Thinking it was dying, Sarah enlisted her mom's help.
Fortunately, my country-raised DIL is a 'cool-hand Luke.'
UN-fortunately, the lizard had affixed himself firmly to her palm and wouldn't let go!
Believing it paralyzed from the frigid temps, Lois tried warming it under the light figure. No dice.
If you look closely at the group photo (above), he/she was still stuck her palm.
(Later, yes. But I wonder if there's not a children's story there about the lizard that came for Christmas.)
And so it goes.
I hope everyone's warm and well. Thank you for the precious gift of your friendship!
Hugs,
Myra
P.S.
Some of you may get this. Santa, you're the best!

You got your onions!? Great photos and it does look like quite the spread!! Praise God!! Thanks for sharing all the love with us! xo
ReplyDeleteActually, they were for DIL's green bean casserole ... but ya, I was able to 'snitch' several. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely cheerful post, Mevely. Thank you so much. It's great to have the family around. Also it's good to get some elastic bands for Christmas; or is it onion rings?
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family all the best always and for ever.
God bless you all.
Ha! I discovered it Christmas Eve, keeping the gift wrap from unrolling. It's all good!
DeleteOh my gosh...that lizard story is too funny! Y'all will remember that forever and retell the story every year. Otherwise, your Christmas sounds fun and perfect. Meat for a gift? YES!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about that becoming a legend! Thanks, Stacy!
DeleteRubber bands! French fried onions! Someone's been paying attention.
ReplyDeleteYep! :)
DeleteI'm glad you had a great Christmas...may you have many more. 💕
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteOh my gosh! No with the lizard LOL. I don't think I could hold one in my hands like that! I think I missed something with the rubber bands and the onions; not making any connections LOL; sorry about that! That rib roast sure looked good! There is always more than enough food, isn't there? And always delicious and no calories (I wish). Interesting how many in your church have tested positive. What "super spreader" event did they all attend? Hoping they all make speedy recoveries!! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeletebetty
Didn't mean to be mysterious, Betty. They were among my Grown-up Christmas list (prior post). I've no idea how/where our friends contracted the virus. Just learned last night, another has been hospitalized.
DeleteAs always enjoyed the family pictures and the visit. Good idea Methinks of the pastor to go to the internet services. We have been back & forth, not good for me.
ReplyDeleteAnyway it looks like a great turnout and fun, even the lizrd will become a great tale. I am sure Tom did well as the chef (part time).
Love from down here were it is near 32, not fun in ?Florida as you know. WEll maybe you would like it. LOL ;-)
Yes, Tom's Christmas Eve dinner was delish! We let the folks at Fat Boys BBQ Ranch do the honors for Christmas Day.
DeleteThe lizard that showed up for Christmas - that would make a cute children's story, Myra! Thanks for sharing your Christmas happenings with us - loved the photos!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Wouldn't it, tho'? You're more than welcome to borrow it; I'm not so talented as you.
DeleteGlad you found some rubber bands...and french onions...and a lizard who came for Christmas???Now that's a story for the books! What happened after Christmas was over? did he ever let go? Did she eat with it stuck on her hand? I have LOTS of questions about that and possible salmonella...but we won't go there. That rib roast looks wonderful. Wish I had that... and I used to have a rotisserie just like that. Use a little wd 40 on the gears...might help with the noise. Sounds like a great Christmas with your loved ones. So happy for you!!!
ReplyDeleteYes! Thankfully, it arrived after everyone had eaten. Shortly after the picture-taking Lois took him/her outside and he/she disappeared into the bushes. God speed! (*smile*)
Delete{{{grin}}} me is wondering about that lizard, lol. The things I miss about down south is the food (your Connecuh meat--which we don't have here.) I also love Blue Bell, but can not get it here. We have Perry's Ice cream. I am so glad you had a great Christmas. smiles
ReplyDeleteOh gurl! Run, don't walk, to ConecuhSausage.com. While in Arizona, we'd order it every year. (Sometimes twice!)
DeleteI so enjoyed hearing about the year the lizard came for Christmas. Looks like you all had a wonderful time. Nice to see the family photo. You had an unforgettable Christmas. Love your chronicles.
ReplyDeleteThank you for saying that, Ma!
DeleteThanks for sharing your Christmas Chronicles Finale with us Myra. Looks like everything was perfect!
ReplyDeleteNot perfect by any means ... but heartwarming. Thanks!
DeleteWhat a big spread. Our onions come in a package now. Not the can. Merry Christmas. I still read and follow you. On Facebook I think we have a lot in common. Just wanted to personally say hello. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandie ... it's great to 'see' you! Happy New Year to you and yours!
DeleteOMG on the meats!! I finally got my Thanksgiving pounds off. Sorry about the covid cases from church. Your meal and party looks like a fun time. I can't believe that about the lizard.
ReplyDeleteI know, right. Bless his/her lil heart.
DeleteI'm last but hopefully not least. All the blog posts on my readers list are showing up late.
ReplyDeleteDecember went by very quickly...and I think too quickly. This is the best time of year to indulge in good food (and I don't feel guilty about it).
The Christmas Lizard would indeed make a classic children's story. And the moral is: never try to applaud when a lizard is stuck on your hand (okay, it wasn't funny.....)
It's encouraging and heartwarming to know that your mother's friend is now 97, living alone, and still sharp as a tack. Bless her heart.
My own readers list is all ... '2020.' 'Have to admit, I giggled.
DeleteYour lizard story made my day. definitely a childrens book in the making. the food sounded yummy. your family is beautiful. and you are right can't believe it's coming up on january. time is flying past.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Happy New Year!
Deletethis is so odd. i typed a book and it is not here.
ReplyDeleteCrazy! I know a few weeks ago I was leaving comments here and there; and for some reason, went back but my comment wasn't there. Seems the 'captcha' thing was acting out. I had to hit it twice, three times and wait while it decided to let my comment pass through security.
DeleteI am searching my memory..it was a long comment.
ReplyDeletei laughed my head off when i saw her trying to warm up the lizard. to get the lizard to let go, gently squeeze just under the ears, the soft part of the throat. I know this because at a Christmas party, we were outside watching the kids on bikes and Brenda said, look I have new earrings and she had a lizard hanging off one ear, she held it up and it bit on her ear. when she tried to remove it, it would not let go... someone said squeeze its throat and it let go.... so glad you were with all your beautiful family. I just had a thought, i think i wrote the comment, then went to listen to the song, maybe when i came back i did not hit publish. i do remember saying I have never even seen a rotissiere except in a deli.. if i had a man who would cook, i would buy one.
Oh my word! The rotisserie was something I bought off a TV infomercial back in 2000. Don't think I've used it more than 5-6 times. What a mess the drippings made. Ugh.
DeleteI think our rotisserie is out in the garage and we haven't used it for years either. lol Oh my, no way I could handle the lizard. And yes, I think you should write a kids book about it! lol
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten how much HEAT it generates. Probably why we've not used it more often.
DeleteMy SIL Lucy had the rotisserie. I always put a cookie sheet with foil on it under my crock pot and all that stuff. Cleans up easier. Today has been a really difficult dat. My post at my second blog reflects it. I do not like drama, never grew up with it so despise it. My sis on the other hand. pray for her ok? Mary is her name. Thanks. Love the lizard story, a best selling childrens classic. At the zoo once Rebekah and I stood in line to touch a Gila Monster baby. They made us sanitizer our hands before and after we touched his scaly self. HaHa Your CHristmas was quite lovely. Prayers for your church friends with the virus. My hubby was sent home early last MOnday. Two guys were house hopping with their relatives and they have the virus plus so does Rays wife. Hubby was home all week last week while they shutdown their floor and called in the Hasmat folks. We did not have a huge Christmas because of NIck being sick. It was nice though. I hope your week is wonderful HUGS
